“GORGEOUS HOTEL...HOWEVER....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2009

Very impressive hotel, grand foyer with an expensive look. Reception staff were friendly enough and helpful. thought we were in for a right treat.... Our room was very basic, considering this was a 5* hotel, we were some what dissapointed. Our 2 week stay cost over £3500 half board, we expected a little more grandour than what we recieved. One of the kids beds, the slats were either broken or missing and yet they werent fixed. The rooms were well cleaned. We had requested a pool/sea view, we got the sea view which was nice. Its very windy and you need stones to hold your towel down! Beautiful setting, however the beach is really pebbley. Way out of the nightlife zone, if fact not alot at all going on around you, so a good half hours stroll will take you to a couple of shopping precints. The entertainment was awful, out of thw 2 weeks we stayed we only saw 2 really good shows. there were activities throughout the day but the same ols stuff at the same day, day in day out. beautiful weather, only 1 cloud in the sky the whole two weeks!! We felt some what out of place in the hotel and you could see the waiting staff waiting on tables that obviously were better off, hoping for a bigger tip I suppose. we loved Rhodes old town, well worth a trip.

Wow, this hotel is definately worth its 5 stars! It is a beautiful, light, clean, spanking hotel with great bars, pool, restaurant, service and rooms. We stayed here for our honeymoon in a superior room with sea view. We were on the 5 floor (just like we asked) right above the main part of the hotel and had fantastic views over the sea and towards Faliraki. The service in this hotel is exceptional, very friendly staff who aim to please. The slight downside is just that the nearest bar (other than the hotel ones) is about a 10 minute walk and at night the road is not lit all the way along, and there are only partial paved areas. The bars in the hotel are very lovely, although a little pricey, but then you kind of expect to pay a little more in a 5 * anyway. The average pint of lager is 4 euro and a cocktail/long drink is 6.50 euro. I guess the prices are not helped by the fact the exchange rate is so poor at the moment. The evening entertainment is ok, some evenings better than others, and I would say its more on the quiet relaxing side rather than the party side. Currently there is a hotel being built next door and opposite (which caused no sound problems or annoyance whatsoever) so it looks like this is an up and coming area. If you are looking for a lively holiday resort this hotel is not the place to go, you would be better of staying in faliriki which is a ten minute bus/taxi ride away. It is perfect or honeymoon couples, or couples looking for a relaxing holiday with a bit of luxury. We thought the choice of food was very good, although not if you want local cusine, but there are plenty of fantastic tavernas on the island. Rhodes town by day and night is definately worth visiting, as is Lindos which is a beautiful place (there is a great boat ride on the one hour glass bottom boat to the left of the jetty). We hired a car (in the hotel itself) for 3 days which gave us a nice bit of freedom to get about. The local buses are frequent (bus stops right outside hotel) although they get very busy. I would stay in this hotel again, and have recommended it to family.

I paid for me and my mum to have a girly, beach holiday for one week during the last week of May 09. Rhodes came highly recommended and I had never been there before. Hotel was absolutely gorgeous. The staff were very friendly, the room was beautiful and very clean, the grounds were lovely and true to the pictures in the brochure, the beach was stunning with free sun-loungers (nobody had to fight for a sun-lounger), the food was delicious with a nice mix between a la carte and buffet. I think I came back at least half a stone heavier! Very relaxing holiday - not great if you're looking to go out everynight but great if you're looking to unwind. Drinks were a little expensive 3 euros for a glass of coke, 6.50 euros for a cocktail but, to be honest, it didn't come as a surprise as drinks usually are more expensive in 5* hotels. Little supermarket on the ground floor which was very reasonable and use of the fridge in the room was free. I would recommend visiting Symi, Rhodes old town and new town & going for an evening cruise along the harbour. I'm booking to go back but for 2 weeks next year and I cannot wait!

This was our second stay at the Rodos Palladium. Last year we stayed for 1 week, on this trip we stayed for 2.

Plus points:
The great staff, good rooms, food and pool. We had a sea view family room and our two young daughters loved waking up to see the sunrise across the sea flooding into the room. We could not fault the staff, especially the bar and restuarant staff and children entertainers Laura and Sylvia. They kept a 10 and 8 year old entertained twice a day and showed great attention to them. There were a few tears when we had to leave. The guest relations advisor, Gabriella is fantastic. If you want advice about where to go, a tour or a personal guide speak to her and not your tour rep. The tour rep will give you the standard commision orientated options but speak to Gabriella and she will help. She arranged for us a personal guide for a tour of the old medieval town of Rhodes, it was fantastic. It did cost more than the group tour but we had our own guide for the four of us and saw parts of the old town you would not see on an organised tour. The hotel location is great for the local waterpark which is a 15 minute walk away.

Not so good points:
Location, there is not a great deal around Kalithea (other than the waterpark) so to experience other bars/restuarants you need to get the bus or taxi to Faliraki or Rhodes Town (15 euro each way). Nightlife, there isnt much in the hotel other than tribute type bands. For us with a young family we didnt have a problem with that but if you are expecting an in house club and enjoy dancing the night away you will have to go off site. Drink prices are high; three euros for a bottle of coke so if you want boozy nights it will be expensive. Again with a young family not too much of an issue as we tended to have a short walk to the local mini market and buy a couple of bottles of good Greek wine and a six pack of beer and then enjoy quiet nights on the balcony with the children. I think the drink price issue is common as in the cafe's and restuarants the prices are similar.
The outdoor sports facilities are poor and could do with updating. Whilst the staff in the children club are great, they are hampered by poor equipment. For example there is no dedicated indoor games room, pc's or variety of games available. This could be improved and especially if your children have stayed in a hotel before with better facilities.

Other considerations:
The hotel has a large German population and so much of the food is orientated towards this market. We didnt have an issue with this and met some very nice German people.

This was our second visit and we will return for a third.

The brochure picture was correct - we could not argue the place is wonderful. We walked in and went "WOW". The hotel is lovely, the rooms are lovely and cleaned everyday, the staff are very polite and helpful, the pool is great even the beach is nice although somewhat brutal.......shale and pebbles..ouch!!!!!!

The downsides - The location........if you want quiet and out of the way this is your place.
But be warned - there is only 1 local bar outside of the hotel which is a 5-10 min walk. Not somewhere for a nice drink - we nipped in and nipped straight back out.

If you want to go out in the evenings you have to go into falariki or rhodes. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel but the buses are not prompt and it appears they tend to change the prices for the journeys as they see fit. It was 1 euro into falariki but 1.50 back. 6 euros for a taxi in - 10 back. Faliriki is not my idea of a good night out - nice beach but after the age of 21 the bars leave little to be desired. Same with rhodes - if your loaded and love to shop your well in - we experienced the same with the travel costs there too.

We choose this hotel for our honeymoon as we wanted quiet and to do nothing but relax which we did. The hotel is more catered to the older generation - what entertainment they did have was very limited. I -personally wouldnt recommend it for younger couples or familys. There is not enough to do locally for entertainment. i wouldnt really recommend it for honeymoon either to be honest - its a 50 plus place in my opionion. However they are doing lots of buidling locally so looks like they are trying to update the area - maybe when im 50 plus it will be just the ticket.

Price wise - for a 5 star hotel it was actually not to bad for the local beer at the bar, everything was expensive though - we paid 23 euros for 2 rounds of drinks - im not talking cocktails here just a G & T and a single short per round.

Food - room service and the al a carte restaurant and shopping from their supermarket were stupidly high prices. The euro doesnt go a long way!!! 3 euros for a loaf of bread - ouch!! To be honest for what we paid for the hotel and on spending money we could have gone somewhere else all inclusive for less - admittidly probably on 3 - 4 star but still - seriously!!!!

The hotel food - we ate well all week but the choices were limited and to be honest the quality was quite poor. It was buffet service and the variation was not great. most mornings the hot food was only luke warm and by the time you got back to your table cold. the hotel tried to cater for all the guests - nationality wise, you could see the effort but the quality was poor. And i have to say - packet mash potato for a 5 star hotel is pretty bad!!!!

i dont honestly think we would go again to this hotel - we would like to go again to rhodes but i think the more traditional side of the island....although a euro country is not high on the agenda at the moment.

I have only been to 2 other 5 star hotels in my life and by comparison this was 5 star accomadation and service but 2 star everything else. Its a shame really..........

All in all our holiday was lovely - we relaxed and chilled and came back re-freshed but skint. The skint side of things and that fact that it would have been nice to have had an evening drink in a little greek taverner are the downsides.

Pluses:
- Good quality
- Very clean - every day we had our room cleaned, bad changed and so on.
- Very polite and helpful
I cannot honestly complain about anything. We felt very relaxed and very happy to be there and we steel do.
- Pictures from the hotel’s website and from the websites are very correct. Everything is new and well organized.

Minuses:
- 10 km to Rhodos town – you can take the bus that will take you anywhere you need on the island or you can rent a car from a renting agency in the hotel which is more expensive than any other renting cars agency starting at the first village that you ca find (in the nearest village from the hotel we rented a new matiz at 20 euro / day. At the hotel the same new matiz was 50 euro).

- few activities for the quests - if you want to stay at this hotel all the time it is not a good choice. They close the lights at 11:00 pm. Well that was not the case for us as we needed a good night sleep as all the days we’ve spent going up and down on the island.

- the beach was not well managed, so we had to stay at the poll which was comfortable and clean.

Over all it looks and fills like a 4 plus stars hotel.
