“Excellent holiday with a lot of "BUTs"”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

We made a last minute booking at Rodos Palladium right at the end of the season (we left on the day the hotel was being closed down for winter), looking forward to a relaxing holiday in our favourite island of Rhodes.
I would like to say that overally, we really enjoyed our 9-day stay in Rhodos Palladium and indeed, had an excellent holiday, including fantastic weather which we were told was very unusual for that time of the year (October).
I shall start with the positive observations:
- excellent and clean pebbled beach, crystal clear sea
- free beach towels which you could exchange every day
- they exchange your towels and sheets every day (sometimes even twice!!) which is nice but unnecessary and certainly can't make up for the negatives listed below..
- beautiful and clean pool and the surrounding area (well-kept garden)
- comfortable beds, large and clean rooms with tea-making facilities
- easy transporation to Rhodos town (bus, boat, taxi)

However, there is a lot of room for improvement; we found a lot of BUTs:

- some of the reception staff very not helfpul at all - you had to ask them 4 times to get what you needed;
- we found it very annoying that even if you switch-off the air-con the ventilation system still keeps blowing cool air in your room, and thus making it very dry; it took us 4 days to make someone fix this but in the meantime I got sore throat from the dry air and I am coughing until today!!
- eventhough it was end of season and the temperatures were not so high, especially at night, the dinner and bar areas felt like you're staying in a refrigirator;
- on the last day the hotel closed the hotel shop without warning and there was nowhere to buy water or snacks for your travel; we were told to buy water from the hotel bar (at ridiculous price) or to walk 15mins to the Elysium Hotel and buy water there from their hotel shop - which we also did but thought it really inappropriate, that moment we didn't feel like staying in a 5star hotel..
- the hotel is a bit isolated and you must walk 20 mins along the busy road to reach any restaurants or bars/shops but this wasnt a major problem for us
- the food in the hotel is VERY POOR, especially the dinner; mainly because it is COLD, tasteless and somehow all the same; the breakfast was a bit better, with a good variety of different foods, although the eggs/bacon/beans were inedible because they were COLD, I mean who on earth would eat cold eggs?? Disgusting.. I also had a feeling that some of the sweet pastries and fruits were not fresh; to make it short, the management should do something about the food or else they will lose guests bigtime!!

We were actually lucky that we stayed in the hotel at the end of the season as there was almost no animation program anymore; therefore we thought the hotel was very relaxing and quiet. I cannot imagine how it would all look like if the hotel was fully booked, the dinner area was cramped with queuing people, and music blared all day... The only downside of arriving at the end of the season was the fact that the staff already started the "closing down" work, including removing sunbeds, tables etc. They also used it as an excuse for not meeting your requests..."sorry finished, sorry end of season" was a common phrase. This is absolutely unacceptable and makes you feel they can't wait to get rid of the guests so they can all go on vacation.

Regardless of the negatives, I must say we had a beautiful holiday and may be back on the condition that the management makes something about the food.

It was our 5th visit to this beautiful and clean hotel with a smiling staff, green territory and nice, though rocky beach.
But I am afraid next time our big family of 6 people will have to look for other hotels on Rhodos-those with a more efficient management.
We booked most expensive rooms at the hotel expecting an extra comfort, but got the opposite, as both rooms were right above the Main Bar! And that meant insomnia for all of us!
All our previous times we used to live in another block, besides it used to be a quiet piano bar, not disco or whatever nights. This time (it was especially nice as we were with a small baby)-thanx to an awful sound isolation system- it felt like you are trying to sleep at the "drum-n-base" party.
For quite big money we were allowed to sleep only after it was over (after 11.30 pm!).
Of course we tried to make complaints at the Reception and had tough talks with the Management. Their first reaction was - no any excuses, bytheway!- "We can not do anything, we are fully booked" (it was obviously not true). The second reaction was to give us rooms of the lower class for the price of luxirious rooms and that was the worst part, as I dont like when people take me as an idiot. Finally they offered us standart rooms for a standart price but they were too small for us, so after wasting some time we stayed at our rooms. The season was coming to the end, so the animation has become a bit quieter.
For my question "Why didnt you inform us about this problem? You knew we travel with a baby!"- they said that they DID inform us in brochures (heh?) and on the site as they wrote -pa-bam!- "The hotel has an animation every night!"
Which sort of conclusions you should make out of this mysterious phrase-now you know it:).
My conclusion (based on talks with other customers):
1) nice place that unfortunately got worse comparing to previous years (quality of food of the evening buffet)
2) the hotel should do smth about its Reception as it is their "business card" which now spoils all the impression.
Thank you for attention.

We came back 3 days ago from a 4 nights stay at the Palladium. The staff was very welcoming from the very first moment and up to the last one. The food was quite good, and the utiliities were great - the pool is big and clean, the beach is a few steps away and also very clean and welcoming (sun beds all over the beach with parasols), there's a minigolf area, basketball, tennis and valley ball courts. We had a full body massage- we got robes, shoes and great treatment. The room is the problematic part - there are no double beds in the hotel, only single, the t.v. is very small and old fashioned (the ones we had 5 years ago, or maybe more), the water temperature in the shower kept changing during the shower, and there was a problem with the lock and the electricity (which was fixed after our request).
One more thing- we rented a car at the hotel (also checked at the Budget agency at La Marquize hotel)- it's cheaper and we recieved a brand new car - it was also great.
All and all we had a terrific vacation!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor.

Just returned from 10 days at The Rodos Palladium. We paid a lot of money to book this holiday and only after reading all the glowing reports on Trip Advisor

Sadly it was a great disappointment, we paid extra for a superior sea view room and all the little extras that came with it, even mailed asking for a top floor room facing the sea

On arrival we were shown to a 4th floor room on a corner and it was clear the sun would hardly ever shine on it

Eventually we were moved to a 3rd floor sea facing room, as to the extras we paid for, well we did get some fruit and two robes, but…no turn down service, mini bar, weekly newsletter, chocolates on the pillow or complimentary cd’s and DVD’s, and weekly fruit replenishment, when I raised this with guest services I was told we don’t do that any more but we are changing the web site soon

The bedroom was large but very uncomfortable hard beds, a large bathroom but a shower in the bath with a not too clean plastic curtain yuk

Meals were average to poor, the food was neither cold nor hot, just warm, and the main menu meals looked and tasted as if they had been standing for hours

Like another review says, we were on occasions forced to make a cheese or meat sandwich because of the awful food on offer

There was no outside entertainment as advertised on the in-house TV presentation, rather very poor pub type entertainment in a dark recess near the bar, the only saving grace was the resident pianist who was excellent

Pool was excellent; however the beach was very pebbly so we avoided it

Drinks and lunchtime snacks were very expensive, ice cream should have been available at the pool and beach bar, but we were told, we have none…….. "end of season"; go to the supermarket for ice cream

A number of times I tried to purchase drinks including a ginger beer and Smirnoff Ice from the main bar only to be told, sorry we have none," end of season", we eventually got fed up with hearing the words “end of season”

All in all this hotel gives the outward appearance of being a 5 star hotel but sadly only has the substance of a 2/3 star hotel

A five star hotel should provide 5 star services from the first day of its season until the very last day of the season; sadly this was not the case with the Rodos Palladium

The staff worked hard to try to meet our needs but it was very apparent that they were not being supported by a new manager and they also intimated the reason for the poor quality food was because of the chef the new manager brought with him

On many occasions we saw this new manager in action, or should I say not in action, nodded to him time after hoping to enter into a conversation with him, but was totally ignored so I eventually gave up and ignored him as well. all he seemed to do was drink and smoke cigarettes and he seemed to have absolutely no interest in his paying guests

We definitely will not be staying at this hotel again

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel until its management structure and food is vastly and we mean vastly improved

We have just come back from a 7 night stay and have to say the hotel and grounds are very nice. The hotel is ideally located for a trip to Rhodes town which you can visit by bus or boat. The pool and gardens are excellent and very well kept and the hotel is very clean.
My only real complaint was with the food which I found to be mostly the same every night. However there was plenty of choice even though the food was not very warm by the time you got back to your table.
Waiting staff were on the whole quite attentive, but did not seem to go out of their way to make your stay special although I did feel that if you were a regular visitor that you got better service.
Evening entertainment was very low key and the day time activities not exactly inspiring enough to want to make you join in.
Overall a very good hotel for a quite relaxing stay if your that way inclined.

Room Tip: A seaview room is a must. Fantastic views from balcony overlooking the pool, gardens and sea.

We recently stayed at the Rodos Palladium for 7 nights (12th - 19th Sept), having booked through Secret Escapes. As per previous reviews, we found the Hotel reception, atrium and grounds were emmaculatly clean and the staff very welcoming & friendly. We were allocated a room in block 4, floor 2, which initially made us feel quiet isolated as it was the furthest from the main hotel and felt like a bit of a walk to get there. Once we had got our bearings and found the 'short-cuts' to the pool, beach, gardens etc. from the basement entrance, this didn't prove to be a problem although it did leave a feeling that anyone booking through Secret Escapes would be allocated what I guess are the cheaper rooms at the Palladium (I'm sure the management will say this isn't so, but all the people we spoke to during the week, booking through SE, were in this block). We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the Thalas bar in the evening (some good live acts) and a special mention must go to Maria for her lovely welcome and attentiveness in the bar during our stay. The same can also be said of Georgia & Maria in the restaurant who had a happy knack of making all the guests on their section feel most welcome. A couple of tips we would like to pass on are, if you are going to Rhodes get a taxi from outside the hotel (approx 15 euro) and don't take the bus as they are always very crowded (it picks-up at all the hotels prior) and just get the bus back (2.2 euros each), if you use the beach its a good idea to buy some beach shoes from the on-site supermarket (8 euros) as it is very shingley, but the sea was lovely, clear & warm even in Sept.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience following your recent stay at the Rodos Palladium.

We are delighted to hear that you were overall satisfied with the hotel and the facilities offered and would like to thank you for your kind comments.

Rest assured that we will relay your praise to all designated members of staff that will be very pleased to know of your opinion on the service delivered.

Kindly note that all rooms located in the main building are either superior twin rooms or suites, while standard twin rooms are located on the annex buildings of the hotel. Having said that we wish to clarify that superior twin rooms or suites have not been contracted by Secret Escapes and therefore would like to reassure you that the assumption made is not valid as the hotel always allocates guests based on the corresponding room types booked.

Once again thank you for the comments made and very much hope to have the pleasure to welcome you back at the Rodos Palladium in the not so distant future.

Warm Regards,
Rodos Palladium

I've been traveling all around the world for 58 years and stayed in many 5 and 4 star hotels. Some are high-nosed, as if you don't exist. Others only think of grabbing your purse.Though being aware that Rodos Palladium is not as young (15 years) compared to recently built hotels in the neighborhood I stayed 10 nights. Cleanliness is their motto, impeccably clean from top to bottom. Furthermore, I did not expect such a friendly hotel, the employees are always polite, smiling and helpful. Besides, the Director and his Assistant (everybody calls him Georgeo) are everywhere DAY AND NIGHT checking with "six eyes" the most minute details. You cannot see a "dust" even in the swimming pools, the beach is spotless. As for the restaurants, it is not a Michelin star. If a cook can do better for 500 guests, let him come and PERHAPS they will engage him and I MAY eat better. The owners should be proud in selecting this team. Thanks. That's all. Henri Oghlian from Brussels

Room Tip: Look for sea-view rooms, especially section 1 (e.g. 1216)

Dear Mr Oghlian,

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to post such a wonderful review on Tripadvisor.

We are delighted to read that you felt as at home during your stay with us; something that very few hotels can deliver nowadays.

We proud ourselves in delivering first class service and would like to warmly thank you for acknowledging this in your review; your comments is the best way to reward all of us for our efforts and cannot express how thankful we are.

Your praise in regards to the cleanliness of the resort will be relayed to the chief housekeeper who will be happy to inform her staff accordingly; we are sure that the maids will be really happy to hear your opinion on the matter.

On behalf of the management and staff we would like to thank you once again and add that we would be really happy to welcome you again in our hotel should your future travel plans call for a trip to Rhodes.
