“Nice hotel but definitely not a 5*”
Reviewed June 27, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I have just returned from a two week stay at Kreston Royal, I am sorry to say all of you that state don't read the bad reviews well DO!!!! Because this hotel is over priced and most definitely not a 5 * hotel. We always stay in 5* hotels and chose this hotel as friends of ours had stayed there in September last year so went with their recommendation.

So the hotel itself is beautiful very modern and lovely on arrival. When we arrived out greeting was ok but expected a glass of something this being the norm at other 5* hotels but sadly this didn't happen. Our room was amazing I have to say we were situated in block 700 and it was huge, we loved the room it was extremely spacious and had a huge balcony with a fantastic view of the sea.

The food however was not so great, all these reviews saying there was loads of choice 'yeah right' you clearly haven't stayed in a true 5* then, the choice was limited which we were extremely disappointed with especially having stayed in Sensatori resorts where you would find someone at breakfast cooking omelettes to your liking, 'this is not the case at kreston royal' the main buffet restaurant inside was like eating in a school canteen so we would opt to sit outside where pascalis the waitor at lunch and evening meals was excellent. Each day the options were pretty much the same and none of the good was labelled correctly, if you are vegetarian or gluten free you would struggle. I don't eat lamb or fish and found most evenings I would end up having one of the two choices of pasta which was vertically the same every day. The good itself was tasteless and Luke warm at best! My husband liked to drink tea at breakfast and would often watch them transferring hot water from one jug to the next none of it being freshly made. This also went for the coffee too.

There were two other restaurants to book which you had limited access to the Italian where the set menu never changed. It consisted of shrimp soup to start if u don't eat fish like me forget being given another option its this or nothing!!! Two choices of pasta, followed by a salad with one tomato served in what looked like a poperdom followed by a choice of chicken, pork or fish. This menu never changes.

We never bothered with the Greek restaurant as it was located by the other pool and looked like a snack bar!

For us it was the little things that didn't quite make it the 5* hotel we had hoped for, there was no proper napkins, no candles outside at night, we met a number of people who we spent time with who hadn't even received a bath Robe. Not to mention the lack of glasses for drinks where you would often find your served your drink at night in a plastic cup that you would get around the pool in the day as they had limited glasses and staff to serve you. I am sorry but drinking a cocktail out of a plastic cup in the evening is most definitely not 5* luxury to me.

Entertainment is limited u make your own.

Last but not least was the kind of people staying there, during our first week a huge party from Israel arrived they looked and behaved like travellers, they were rude, arrogant to Carlos the pool bar waiter and did nothing but cause chaos, one one occasion they bought there own bottled alcohol and threw bottles of water across the pool where it nearly hit a small child, kicked a football around that nearly smashed the reception window, would pile plates high with food and would take it back to the pool instead of eating it in the restaurant and on one evening behaved like animals that had been let out of a zoo running around the reception and bar area shouting and jumping around! Hotel management were constantly talking to them but they wouldn't listen! At one point I could of mistaken myself for bring in benidorm not a 5* hotel in Rhodes! Not to mention the massive Scottish party that also Arrived who also drank the pool bar dry and also behave like animals! Not my kind of 5* luxury I am afraid. Overall I enjoyed my holiday but that was only because of the people we had become friends with.
The final straw was upon leaving on Wednesday 26th when on the Monday evening Thomson had pushed a note through the door to say we were being picked up between 10.15 and 10.4am. I tried to contact the rep but hot an automated text back, we checked out early and chose to sit bar the pool bar and wait for the half hour I wasent happy about as there's no air conditioning in reception a d the bus turned up at 10.30sm the rep made out he had spent half hour looking for us and had been on the phone to his manager, when I got on the bus be was quite rude I explained to him if he had been more specific with the time this wouldn't of been the case he turned round and said 'well complain then'!!!

The hotel is wery beutiful and big. The pools are great and beutiful and large rooms, at first we thought that we going to have the best holidays... But then we tried the food. The food was terrible! We just ate chips all the week..if you are a vegeterian so this is not a place for you!! The hotel is very boring in evenings, the intertaiment was a joke!! The wifi is not working in the ivenings at all!! That's is too bad that the hotel that looks so nice, don't investor in such important things! Especially after all the latest rewies that all tells the same, no one there do nothing to improove! We won't come back to this hotel, because we can see that they not even try to learn from people reveiwes

Dear Customer!
Kalispera from sunny Rhodes!

We would like to thank you for choosing our 5 star holiday resort for your recent stay. We are very happy to see that you found our place "very beautiful". It's great you enjoyed so much your "great and large" room and relaxing areas at the pools. We are sorry that the variety of our 3 restaurants and menu that we prepared for you did not meet your sophisticated taste. We are sorry that you ate chips all week instead of enjoying our genuine greek cuisine at Porta di Mare, Italian touch at Teatro or international kitchen at Athina. We are sure that our large range of fresh or oven baked vegetables, salads, cheese buffet along with the pasta and rice dishes will satisfy also a vegetarian clients.

Dear customer, once again thank you for this review and your valuable points that we were happy to respond to.

Best Regards,
"Your" Kresten Royal management team.

My fiancé and myself have just returned from two weeks in the Kresten Royal, on arrival at 1am we were told to go '' down there'' after being booked in. ''down there'' turned out to be total blackness and we were expected to find our own way. On finding the villa we didn't know how to turn lights and air-con on because we hadn't been shown plus the room was far from the junior suite quality we had booked. When we booked out, we were locked out of our room before the allocated time, and told we should have been out by 6pm even though we had paid for a whole extra day. That excuse was invalid because the key was termed finito by a maid who had to get us back in after breakfast with her own key. Now the good bits, Carolas the sunrise barman was a true gent, excellent at his job, and a lovely man in general. Mermuse, one of the waiters in the Restaurant should be running the place, because if the management team or reception team were as good as him and his fellow waiters and waitresses at their jobs Kresten Royal would be packed every day of the year. The maid service is outstanding. the food was lovely always a great choice. Word of advice, if any trips are planned, book them through the hotel as they can cost up to 50pc less than the price the holiday company charge, SyMi is a must experience as is Rhodes Old Town by day or night, beautiful....

Room Tip: Try to choose villas from 300-900. You have more chance of being allocated the actual holiday you bo...

Myself, my husband and another couple stayed at the kresten from 15-22nd of June and going by the reviews we were having doubts! On arrival the hotel looked nice and modern (as expected) however the man on reception literally grunted at us as opposed to a warm welcome!

Our room was fantastic, spacious and a big bathroom - happy with that!!

We used the pool next to reception it was not ram packed with people and there were always plenty of spare beds!! Yes the pool bar service was a bit slow but your on holiday for god sake - chill out!

2 massive plus points - the food was great, lots of choice and very tasty!! The cocktails and wine were fantastic - Bahama Mama :))

3 low points - no air con in reception or the bars - it was melting!! And 'some' of the staff could have been a bit happier, they weren't exactly falling over backwards for you!!the entertainment - WHAT entertainment??! It was totally cringeworthy - the Macarena every night and the young girls in charge of it - no offence - didn't have a clue! It was embarrassing (unless you were under 10 years old)

Overall a good stay for us, doubt we will be back however if the kresten got a few of the wee things sorted it would be a lot better!!

Basically, exactly what madgefish said below! Had my concerns after reading some of these negative reviews but the whole trip was amazing. Stunning hotel, great food and very helpful / competent staff. I think the bad reviews must either be competition or very spoilt/grumpy people! Hats off to christos the cocktail barman too, had to keep his cool when it got quite busy but continued serving great drinks with a smile. Was always happy and made us feel like friends rather than customers.

If I have to pick a single downside it would be that they apparently don't have a double bed in the entire hotel... Which is a bit odd. The pushed together single beds will do if you request they put a double sheet over them but obviously not ideal. other than that i can't say a bad word.

But thank you kresten royal for a fantastic and very relaxing holiday, one of the best I've had. And christos, you are the man!

I have read many of the reviews of this lovely hotel written by individuals complaining about the food, the staff, the rooms etc and can only say that I totally disagree with these negative comments based on our experience this week. My sister and I had a lovely room overlooking the main pool and fabulous views out to sea. It was spotlessly clean and had good air con (much needed!). We received a nice welcome on arrival from KATIA who could not do enough to help us. The restaurants offer a wide variety of food - all presented beautifully and there was always something that we enjoyed. They try hard to please everyone (but of course you can't please some people...we saw one lady complain, complain, complain with a snarl on her face every day as if she had eaten a wasp. She seemed determined not to have a good time). The Italian restaurant is very pleasant - and the 5 course menu was delicious. ATHANASIA and ANNA served us that evening and were friendly, fun and very attentive waitresses. CHRISTOS in Bella Vista (the roof top bar with beautiful views) was a fantastic barman, serving his customers with a smile and always noticing when you needed a refill. All the staff were friendly, helpful and professional. There was little arranged 'entertainment' but live music and dancing made our last night good fun. We went to the Greek BBQ / Dancing in the sister hotel and that was a good night. The food was gorgeous. It was easy to jump into a taxi into Rhodes Old Town (it was too hot for a bus) and we spent a lovely day pottering about. It is very beautiful.

So - go with an open mind, be nice to the hotel staff as they work extremely hard for you and enjoy.

Room Tip: The junior suites overlooking the main pool are quiet and have great views.
