My Trip to the Atlas Mountains was fantastic. The weather was rainy, which is not usual but our guide was great. Jamal was very knowledgeable. We got the chance to see the way of life for local people, and got an insight Berber village culture. We went to a Berber village Coffee shop, which I loved. The whole experience was very authentic and I would definitely do another longer trip to with them.

An easy taxi ride at a good price took us from our riad to meet Jamal. He led us up into the hills behind his town on good tracks to small Berber villages, where we joined families for morning mint tea and later a chicken tajine, eaten with bread and hand. Jamal is experienced, very knowledgeable and speaks excellent colloquial English.
He told us about the limestone kiln and the crops in the fields we passed. On our own, we would never have met any farmers or the Berber who worked for a micro-credit agency. The women and children are on the whole very shy and remain largely out of sight. He doesn't always go to the same houses, so the meeting felt quite unforced and the Berbers we met answered our questions very naturally and showed a genuine interest.
Our only regret was that we did not have enough time to do an overnight or multi-day excursion, when there would be more time to see other parts of their lives or perhaps help with the cooking.

Our hike with Jamal was the highlight of our trip to Morocco. He worked with us to tailor the hike to our interests and level of difficulty and it met all of our high expectations. Jamal was pleasant and knowledgeable and answered all of our many questions about the area and Morocco in general. The lunch he arranged for us to have with a local individual was truly amazing- the food was excellent and the experience was one-of-a-kind. My husband and I HIGHLY recommend a trip with Berber Adventures.

Jamal was an excellent guide - friendly, knowledgeable and kind-hearted. The one-day excursion hiking in the Atlas Mountains and having lunch with a Berber family was one of the highlights of my trip. It was a great way to get out of the cities and get a feel for another aspect of Moroccan culture. I would recommend Berber Adventures to anyone!
