The property was excellent, well laid out with the bedrooms downstairs and the living room kitchen upstairs offering views out to sea in the distance. Everything you need is included. High quality bed linen. Really good base to get about and see cornwall. I was not over struck on the town of portreath itself but we spent more time in st Ives which is about 15 mins away and really nice. Good bodyboard shop in portreath if you want to kit yourself out. Restaurant on site was reasonable and the pool area was really nice. Would highly recommend.

John & Tanya,

Great write up! Thank you, Portreath our nearest village can be quite pretty, particularly when the sun shines, the beach is lovely and sandy, there are a three pubs, all do good food, theres a fantastic bakery as well. But it takes a lot to beat St Ives which as you say is not to far away either.

Glad you had such a lovely time and thank you for giving us five stars!!

Hope to see you back with us soon!

This is the best self catering location we have been to. Only problem is it is a mile from the beach. Having said that the beach is great for sandcastles and surfing. The wooden holiday houses are all clean and well designed. There is a lovely on site swimming pool. Bikes can ve hired from reception. The whole place is lovely and relaxing. Local walks are also beautiful

Thank you,

Really appreciate your great comments on the cleanliness of the lodges, and your accolade as the "Best Self Catering location you have ever stayed at!" we like to hear words like this!!

As for the Beach, if we could move it closer we would, but every lodge has a view of the sea, and it is less than a mile away.

We do as you point out have our own cycle hire, you can ride to the beach in less than 3 minutes! the hill on the way back takes a little longer of course!!

But where else can you look out to Sea, cycle to the Beach, past Donkey's, Goats, Chickens, and even Reindeer!

Thanks again, please come back soon!

Booked Gwel an Mor back in Jan, bit peeved as prices dropped a week before left - but hey-ho, I like to be organised..

Arrived an hour early, but accommodation was ready, went for the budget Lowena lodge that was a bit smaller than the other lodges but great for three of us - even though it was the cheapest lodge, it still had two balconies, one with nice views of the sea. Spacious and well equipped, really thoughtful touch of chocolates on the bed and a nicely chilled bottle of white in the fridge, plus a lollipop on the children's bed. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable living room with tv and DVD, and master bedroom with sitting room that opened up onto its own balcony. Spotless and well maintained grounds around the lodges as well. Only bad point to the lodge was possibly the worst bed I've ever slept on!

We ate in the Terrace restaurant the first night, and the food was ok, nothing special but very attentive service from the waitresses. For the rest of the time we ate in the Bassett Arms in Portreath, a 15 min walk down the hill through the woods. Superb food there, chef knows how to cook a steak to perfection, deserts are pretty good too. Friendly landlady, staff and locals, plus good local ales. Lunch wise, we stocked up in the Portreath bakery, best pasties in Cornwall, plus a good selection of cakes and pastries.

Spa and swimming pool great, warm and spotlessly clean. Not a huge pool, but adequate for a short swim, plus steam room and sauna.

Feadon farm - for those with kids this is a must. Gary the ranger is a legend, I've never met someone with so much enthusiasm for and knowledge of the environment. The activities that he leads really teach the kids something, and he has a great rapport with children. We opted for a night walk and falconry, plus my little one did the ranger experience that she really enjoyed. It's his hands on approach that really works with kids and adults alike, handling a slow worm for the first time in 15 years made me feel like a kid again! Worth booking the activities before you arrive as they get filled up pretty quick.

Out and about, Portreath is worth a look round thanks to its historical significance as an old trading port (check out the information boards around the harbour). From here we went to St Ives (take the park and ride unless you want a 20 min walk up a steep hill) which has loads of artists and galleries, plus lots of quirky little shops. Minnack theatre near Porthcurno can be interesting if there's something on. Avoid Lands End unless you want to be ripped off for car parking and being charged a tenner for having your photos taken next to the famous sign. Bloke doing the photos got quite miffed when we took photos a few feet away.. Beachwise, I surf, so headed to Sennen cove (good restaurant in the car park, though expensive), stunning beach, crystal blue water and light sand, making in feel a bit like the Caribbean. Also surfed Gwithian, Porthtowan and the beach at Portreath.

Customer service at Gwen al Mor second to none, from reception to maintenance, had a problem with our DVD player and within 5 minutes someone was there to fix it. Always a happy smile from everyone on site.

I looked at centreparcs for feb half term and the price I payed at Gwel an Mor was roughly half that of centreparcs, and I got better accommodation, a nicer environment plus I wasn't ripped off at every opportunity, and I got to contribute to the local economy in some way. Some of the larger all in one holiday destinations could learn some valuable lessons from this little Cornish jewel..

"Cornwall At Its Best"

What a fantastic headline, great to hear you had such a lovely time with us.

Your comment on the beds, our beds are from Millbrook Bedding and are high quality, I am sure you appreciate beds are a very difficult area to please everyone, we used to offer medium to soft mattresses, but had a few complaints so we changed to firm/medium and since then we have had very few concerns.

We also offer mattress toppers when requested.

The Basset Arms in the village does offer great food, as does the Portreath Arms, and the village and Beach is only a short walk away from Gwel an Mor, so no worries after a couple of glasses of wine, other than the uphill walk back!

Thanks for the positive staff comments, I am really proud of my team, the last few write ups on Trip Advisor have been all five stars and everyone has commented on the staff, and how helpful they are....... exactly how it should be!

As For Gary on the Farm, he is an enormous credit to us, and as you quite rightly commented he is so enthusiastic about his subject and enthuses everyone young and old alike about nature and the environment!! He's a proper Cornish Attenborough!

Hurry and come back!

Stayed here 3 times now, one of the attractions is that we can stay here with our 2 year old Cocker Spaniel, Roxy. Both Roxy and our 2 teenage children live it here. Lodges are luxurious, well equipped, Wifi connection is excellent. Swimming pool is great for younger children, tends to get busy. Staying here before Eastern means that the dog can go on all the beaches.
St Ives and Padstow are great, Lands End is overrated. Lizard Point has a little cafe that sells the best doughnuts in the world.

Jan,

What a lovely write up, and particularly from a guest that has stayed with us several times before as this means you can judge us on previous stays.

And of course you are exactly the reason we work so hard, as we want our customers to want to come back again and again!

Glad Roxy's a fan as well, there are many beaches in Cornwall that do still let you walk your dog's all year round, we keep a list in reception. And i will try the Lizard point donuts myself when I 'm next there!

See you back at Gwel an Mor soon.

Regards,

A week @ Gwel An Mor, fully refreshed now and so happy to share such positive feedback.
We seen, We came, We loved it.......... Stayed in a luxurious 3 bedroom lodge with open fire and hot tub, all very spacious and attention to detail is second to non. From the hand written welcome card to the dog treats on the side when we arrived (for the dog I hasten to add)
The whole site works to an ethos that is based along the lines of "nothing is to much trouble" every member of staff we encountered pushed customer service that extra mile, a refreshing and professional approach. The resort offers great facilities and the Terrace Bar and Restuarant is a must for an evening of delightful food in a lovely environment. If you feel guilty in the morning after a little over indulgence then the facilities of the pool, gym, sauna, steam room and large jacuzzi will help to undo those calories. If not take a leisurely walk and absorb the great views along the coast or simply spend some time on the farm, it's all here for you to take in.
We will be back, a massive thanks to one and all for our time at your resort.

Room Tip: If open log fires are for you, upgrade and enjoy this and the hot tub as well........ It's a small costs and well worth it.

Nicky,

What a great write up! and thanks for such compliments, our staff do try and go that extra mile, and to hear your words confirming this is fantastic!

Gwel an Mor does have the ethos, "nothing is to much trouble" after all why should we expect you to stay with us when there are so many other places to stay?

Our belief is that if we really care about your holiday, then you will want to keep coming back! our staff are the soul of the business, there's lots of great accommodation in Cornwall, but to get staff that really care is what makes us different.

And when we have happy guests genuinely all our staff are happier...... we all win!

Thanks again... please come back soon.
