With a group of friends we took over the whole place. What a great place for a getaway. Thought we were on the wrong road, but there it was at the end with amazing views over the valley below. Well appointed rooms and welcoming hosts. Close to all the Matakana attractions. Generous hot tub for solving the world's problems. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Champagne room is the biggest, the Chablis room has a great bathroom and smaller bedroom and Chardon...

You are not the only one who wonders where the heck they are going. Not only are we at the end of a gravel no exit road but then you follow a long driveway up to the top of the ridge. You have to admit though it's worth the drive when you reach your destination.

When purchasing the Lodge we were sold at the top of the drive before even looking inside the property. It has the wow factor.

The road is one of the reasons we incorporated "Country Lodge' into the name. Although we are only 5 minutes off of the main highway, it is definitely country.

Thanks for your feedback.
Cheers!

My husband and I stayed for one night I wish we could have stayed longer.
Garth and Susan put on 'happy hour' where we had wine and cheese and met the other guests.
Susan helped us with places to dine out. The views are beautiful they also have a pool which would be wonderful in the warmer weather. The rooms are quite large with tea and coffee, although we did end up with no hot water that night for a shower, but overall it is a wonderful place to stay.

"Happy Hour" is something pretty special at the Lodge. It gives the guests a chance to get to know one another so when meeting in the public areas you feel more at ease.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay overall and apologise about the lack of hot water - this is very unusual. Because you have bought this to our attention, Garth is looking at ways we can overcome this happening in the future.
Your feedback is very important to us as we are constantly looking at ways to improve.
Cheers!

Stayed here mid January and I must say the peace during the summers night is to die for.
The nicest husband and wife duo you could ever meet in the industry.
We only stayed 1 night due to kids an wrk but what a nice little getaway.
The drive to the actual property is definitely worth it.
We again had the luxary of being the only 1s there and as a treat got upgraded at no extra cost.
Breakfast outside just spectacular as you just take in the whole of matakana below you and much more in the horizon.
Make sure you go and visit even if it is just to get away from the rascals and at just a short trip from Auckland CBD you are in heaven.

Having the Lodge to yourself is a real treat. To be able to kick back on the terrace and enjoy the views and sound of the birds knowing no one else is going to disturb you is pretty special. We can't always guarantee this is going to be the case, you got lucky staying on a weekday!
We hope you to see you back again for a kid free getaway.
Cheers!

What a stunning place to stay. Garth and Susan welcomed us like long lost friends...had great chats with Garth over long, lazy breakfasts. Generous breakfasts and happy hour lots of fun. We intend on coming back each time we get to this beautiful part of the country. A+ from the kiwi teachers teaching abroad. We love that the lodge is exclusively for adults too!

We too enjoyed our chats with you and learning about life in Singapore. I hope the property you purchased site unseen lived up to your expectations.
We look forward to welcoming you back next school holidays or whenever you find the time to come back to NZ for visits.
Spread the word amongst your co-workers that may be travelling to NZ anytime in the future.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in May in the Champagne room and we loved it so much we booked his parents in the following weekend! It is a fantastic place for an intimate weekend escape to relax and unwind.

Susan was a wonderful host pre, during and post booking. We thoroughly enjoyed 'happy hour' with wine and cheese and chatting to the other guests. They even gave us a lift down to the pub after, what service! The views are absolutely beautiful and the lodge has a lovely cosy, homely feel to it. Matakana and the wineries are easily accessible and the rooms (we had a sneak peek at the others) are all great sizes, the bed in the Champagne room was very comfortable and the hot tub an added bonus. If you go in the summer they also have a pool which looked very tempting but unfortunately it was too chilly when we went.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the lodge to anyone (unless they loved soulless corporate hotels). Go now! :)

Room Tip: All the rooms look great but for a real treat I would choose the Champagne room

We look forward to welcoming you and your in-laws back sometime in the future.

Lovely location run by a lovely couple. Perfect place to escape. Up a long drive and you may need to wash your car later!. Set in a farm with spectacular views. Lots of vineyards close by and restaurants in the towns on either side. The owners had a drink with us in the evening and they made us feel very welcome. They live in the building next door so you don't get the feeling of being in someone's house.

Thank you for your review. I'm glad you felt that you have your privacy due to the fact that we live seperate to the Lodge. We enjoy getting to know our guests during "Happy Hour" and again over breakfast; however the remainder of the time you are there to enjoy and make the most of each others company and the facilities.
Hope to see you back here sometime in the future.
Cheers!

I organised a secret wedding at the Matakana Country Lodge. Proposal in the morning, wedding in the afternoon. Susan was a great host. The venue was set up, contingencies in place and she even went ahead with a few extras for the guests.
We had the sun shine at the perfect moment and we held a ceremony overlooking a huge landscape.
We stayed the night and the next morning after breakfast and leaving we looked back and couldn't fault a thing.

Hi Darrin
When you first contacted us regarding the wedding I did not take you seriously. Who in their right mind would try proposing and getting married on the same day? You pulled it off brilliantly and we really enjoyed being a part of your big day.
May you have a long and happy life together. We look forward to welcoming you back for your anniversary in 12 months time.
Cheers!
