“An arty meal”
Reviewed May 24, 2014

We visited the café after a meander through the Saturday markets in Matakana.
We have been here a few times before and find the setting peaceful and relaxing. The food is good however a bit high priced and at $20 for Eggs Benedict its hitting the top price sector. The staff were friendly and food delivered in good time even though we were a group of 7. We had purchased oysters at the market and there was no issue with us enjoying them as an entre to our lunch meal. Obviously the attraction is also the pottery shop and as there was a sale on this day some of our group made purchases. A guitar player entertained us and this added to the atmosphere.

“Beautiful setting but........”
Reviewed April 24, 2014 via mobile

We called in here a few weeks ago with some overseas visitors, it's in a glorious setting - just magic. It was lovely wandering around looking at the pottery. It's changed so much since I was last there. Went for a coffee and bite to eat at the cafe. The coffee was really nice but there was little choice of food and what was there was uninviting and far too expensive. So we all gave the food a miss. Such a shame. I think people expect more nowadays than a bad cook's homemade cake and scones. If this place was professionally run it would be a little goldmine.

“really good kai!”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

excellent location, and really good service. it was packed too as it was xmas holiday time.we went on a drizzly day and sat secluded under the vines. little alcoves that are nice and private. playground for the kids too- not that we took them! Food was fantastic, I had calamari and the salad accompanying it was brilliant. loved it. oh and a great coffee too. not to mention a bit of retail therapy right next door at morris and james.

“Good food, pity about the service”
Reviewed February 21, 2014 via mobile

Attended with family for lunch after browsing their pottery shop which is worth a visit in its own right. the food was very good, especially the home made burger. The quesadilla was very tasty too, though the promised aioli on the menu didnt appear on the plate. Definitely fills you up after a day sightseeing. The service from the woman behind tne counter though was disappointing, too be called out to fromacross the restaurant that there were specials on the board behind us seemed a little unnecessary - why not wait until after serving the group they were and then tell us as they take our order? she seemed to not care about the food or customers, pity as with better service this would be 5 stars.
