This inn has en suite rooms in a hundreds year old inn. The owners are wonderful, friendly people with a great bar that caters to locals and dining that is worth trying. They also were gracious enough to prepare the trout we caught, and the breakfast is an English breakfast to die for; especially if the chef serves his own, special black pudding.

The inn is located within walking distance of Doune Castle where the movie, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" was filmed. It is a must see.

You can arrange guided fly fishing for both salmon and trout; one of the reasons I stayed in Doune. Doune is also a great location from which to visit the surrounding castles and historic sites and about an hour from Edinburgh. I spent the day in Edinburgh and attended the Tattoo. It was an easy drive back to Doune after. There is also a distillery in Doune, if you are inclined to visit and try their wares.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the street if you want to watch the local activities. There are quiet rooms in the back, and there is also a large room for bigger families that was recently converted from what had been a bunkroom. All the rooms I saw were comfortable and had what an American would call antique furniture. The beds are comfy and the rooms roomy.

Just back from a weekend break at the Red Lion. Needed a relaxing break and definately got it. Absolutely nothing to fault them on. The room was immaculate, the food absolutely fantastic and the service outstanding. The care taken with each guest was first class. Everybody was so welcoming and staff took time to advise on local attractions. Very dog friendly. Will definately be returning in the future. Big thank you to everybody who took such good care of us.

Room Tip: Room 4 - lovely room with four poster bed

Just had one of the best weekends away in Scotland. Although only an hours travelling it was a real get away from it all. The room I stayed in was very comfortable and spacious would be perfect for a family.

The bar was just perfect, great beer, pint was at the right temperature, but i had to try several just to make sure:-) and the locals all were most welcoming.

The food in the restaurant could not be beaten, it was down as pub grub but that would do it a diservice. My compliments to the Chef. and all the staff, will be staying there again thats for sure.

Room Tip: The family room 5 ws the best in the Inn

From booking to checking out Jamie and his staff did everything efficiently and with a warm personal touch. Donald, the chef, cooks some excellent dishes and the menu has a good selection in all courses. We strongly recommend this pub for an enjoyable stay at a very reasonable cost.

Room Tip: All rooms have been refurbished and Jamie selects rooms to suit the guests whenever possible.
