We stayed for one night in the large family room. We had booked the night before but our younger son was ill and they kindly let us change the booking without any problems. The room is split level with twin beds close together and a double, en-suite (shower), TV and a complimentary refreshments tray including biscuits, sweets and a bar of chocolate!

There is a comfortable small bar and restaurant with a terrace overlooking the Esk. The village is pretty and you are within easy distance of the moors and coast.

The food in the restaurant is fabulous - a varied and interesting menu with information on where the meat, fish and vegetables are sourced. They even smoke their own fish. The food is cooked to order and they will cook to the children's tastes too. A two course meal for 4 including drinks cost us £90.

A very pleasant and friendly place!

Avoid the standard double at the front - the noise from the bar below goes on well into the night, and the ducks are noisy at 6.30am. The accommodation is rather shabby, but all was clean and the shower was fine, although somewhat cramped. The hot water in the sink was off on day one, but fixed as soon as I complained. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and the food was top notch.

We have stayed at, eaten at and drank at The Board Inn in Lealholm on many occasions, and without doubt, Alistair and Karen run a first class, triple A rated establishemnt.

The food is out of this world, locally sourced and with many cuts of meat coming directly from their own herd - literally from the field to the table - and boy can you taste the difference! A constantly changing and varied menu keeps you coming back for more, time and again.

We stayed in the 'Cottage' on B&B basis; which was spotlessly clean, warm and comfy; and very handy for the pub! It had all the facilities you could wish for, and it was also dog friendly.

The actual pub is very traditional and rural in character, with a great selection of real ales and ciders. Friendly and attentative staff are always on hand to either serve, offer advice, or just have a good chat.

This really is the quintessential Yorkshire country gastro pub and B&B. You really couldn't ask for more, and we regularly recommend it to friends, or take them to it for a meal and a drink.

Though the owners were friendly and the service was good we found the pub very expensive at £45 per night per person even for the children aged only 11 and 13. We had to ask for extra heaters as the room was freezing the shower was very very poor in both rooms, the room also had large dirty cobwebs above the heater. The pub itself was very cosy with lovely real fires and the food was very good though again felt that for a shabby pub was also over priced. We have stayed in many pubs in Yorkshire and feel dissapointed with our stay at The Board Inn.

Stayed here for 1 night a couple of months ago to get over the terrible shock of staying the previous two nights at The Arncliffe Arms in Glaisdale! What a difference!
The pub is owned/run by Karen & Alastair, a young couple who are really friendly and know their stuff. The food produced in the kitchen by Alistair and his team is exceptional, local produce, delicious and plentiful. Not your usual meat and two veg!!
They had 4 hand pulled cask ales on offer when we were there...Heaven! a good wine list and an excellent choice of malts etc (including my favourite..Makers Mark!)
The pub itself is in 3 parts, all areas eating and drinking with log fires and masses of charm. In summer there is a terrace overlooking the river (did I mention the wonderful outlook?!) and the front overlooks the village green! (No, I am not making it up!!) The village of Lealholm is really wonderful, they have a couple of village shops, bakers (fantastic..just next to the pub) a small garden centre, craft shop etc.
The night we stayed was a fundraising quiz night for the village show in September and we were made to feel so welcome we want to live there!!
We stayed in the 4 poster room which was excellent, immaculate bathroom, quality tea and coffee, even a bar of their own chocolate!!
Needelss to say, we are going back for a few nights in September and can't wait to enjoy their hospitality once again....and enjoy the village show!!

Many thanks Karen & Alistair!!
