This our second visit, greeted as we arrived by Karen and Alistair as long lost friends. I can’t recommend this wonderful English county pub/restaurant/hotel enough, happy to class as 11 out of 10. It’s so cosy and warm just like pulling on your favourite slippers or cardigan. Our accommodation was at the front of the hotel overlooking the river and green very cosy and warm. The best bit is when you go down for dinner; if this is not one of the best of its type in the country I will be amazed. All produce used by Alistair and his talented team is locally sourced by them; much is their own beasts which they keep. I would not be surprised if you asked at breakfast which hen laid the eggs that they could tell you. They told us which hive the honey came from, such attention to detail certainly pays off. The dinning experience is one to embrace and enjoy. It will not belong until we pack our backs and head off back to Lealholm.

Room Tip: We like room 5, four poster and dressing/sitting room. This overlooks the river and green.

We have just returned from another weekend stay at the Board.
Once again the service, the friendliness (of the staff and the locals) and the meals were superb.
This is a truly lovely place to visit and stay at.
We are looking forward to our seventh visit already.

This must be the friendliest pub in Yorkshire if not the whole country. Run by a couple [ Karen and Alistair ] for whom nothing is too much trouble, the enormous bed was very comfortable, the bathroom immaculate and as a special touch, there were delicious home made biscuits with the tea and coffee tray. The food was fabulous, all fresh and very locally sourced. Huge portions too! The staff and the locals were also very friendly and welcoming and it was specially nice that dogs are welcome too. Thank you to all concerned for a lovely stay. We shall be back.

This is one of the friendliest places we have stayed. We travel with our dog, and all of us were made really welcome. Staff couldn't ave been more helpful.
The pub is right along side the very pretty River Esk and opposite the village green.
We had booked the cottage which is along side the pub, has it's own little self contained garden area, and was very comfortable. Although we didn't self cater, the facilities were all there. Room(s) nipping clean and warm.
Meals were very good quality, cooked to order, and local produce.
Only draw back is car parking~ leave it too late in the evening and you can't get near!
I'm sure we will be back.

Room Tip: Suggest that anyone with pets choose the cottage.

Booking the Board Inn was a fantastic choice as it did not disappoint. My wife and i stayed here recently for a peaceful break and we were very impressed. Our room was fabulous with a jacuzzi bath and shower, very comfy and inviting bed with comfy pillows and clean bedding. Tea and coffee provision in the room with lovely butter biscuits. Dressing gowns and slippers provided which were very comfy after a jacuzzi bath and a long day walking and sightseeing in the surrounding countryside . My wife and i were warmly greeted on arrival and introduced to their dog who was lovely. The proprietors and staffs hospitality was brilliant and we were made to feel very welcome in this beautiful location. We had a meal at the board inn which i must say was one of the best meals we have ever eaten. I would recommend the steak with blue cheese and the lamb shank, absolutely beautiful meal and perfect in presentation. We had a few beers and had a chat with the locals who made us feel very welcome. We sat by the river which runs alongside the Board Inn and relaxed with a drink or two before settling down for a good nights sleep. The breakfast was, again, fantastic....Great service, local produce and fresh....It set us up for the day.... Highly recommended stay at the Board inn....I am just ready to book our next stay....Take your camera as the scenery is fantastic, you can capture herons on the river if you are quiet enough! Enjoy, you will not be disappointed....

Room Tip: Any room allocated will be brilliant, it is in such a peaceful area.

We came for sunday lunch and the food was really lovely. The meat was tender, and the Yorkshires huge! There were plentiful veg and roasties, all delicious.
Service was very friendly the pub has a welcoming atmosphere.
Thank you, we will definitely be back!

Having just returned from a week in North Yorkshire we have to say this is one of the nicest small hotels we have ever stayed in. Cosy, comfortable and amazing food. The management (Karen and Alistair) and staff (in particular Katie) went out of their way to may us feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble and by the time we left we almost felt part of the family.

The location of The Board Inn is ideal for visiting both countryside and coast and the perfect retreat to return to after a days walking or site seeing. Meal times are flexible (ie it's a case of "when do you want breakfast" not "breakfast is served between") and the portions are huge. Beware the full English!

We will certainly be visiting again
