“Amazing getaway”
Reviewed December 26, 2013 via mobile

I loved everything about this place, from the hobbit huts, the nightly frogs in the bathroom, the food (the thali, which changes each day, is excellent) and the amazing massages!

The standard pods were booked up, so we (a couple) stayed in a family pod. It was a great size and done out beautifully. Breakfast was delivered each morning outside the pod, which was lovely (and romantic) start to the day.

The staff were helpful in organising taxis and scooters to help us explore Goa. The waiters in the restaurant by the beach were very sweet and friendly and mixed a mean cocktail!

If only there were two hammocks for each pod... They were sooooo comfy but we could have done with one each!

We stayed here for 5 nights at the beginning of December (3 in standard dome, 2 in Honeypod2). The photographs on the website don't do the grounds justice! It is so green and tropical, it really does feel like paradise. The food is excellent. The staff were good but I think do struggle with understanding English. We went on various restaurant recommendations from the hotel, La Plage, Sublime and Thalassa all were fantastic and well worth a visit.

We spent 3 great nights in a standard dome which was really large. Each night we were visited by a frog (usually found in the loo, which we found very amusing!). We moved for our last two nights to Honeypod 2 which was in a lovely location overlooking the beach however we had two sleepless nights because of rodents running around in the ceiling of the honeypod. We were reassured by our neighbours after the first night that the rodents would not come into the pod but nevertheless it was a little unnerving. I would highly recommend to guests booking the honeypods to take earplugs with them as apparently it happens every night (again neighbours and other reviews which I wish I’d read before). We did not have this problem in the standard dome as I think being sheltered underneath the palm trees (with falling coconuts) makes these domes less desirable to rodents.
There are some local hawkers; some ladies who seem to have a connection with one of the male members of staff are often hanging around the sunbeds on the beach. If this is a problem for you then I would pretend to not speak English and they will hopefully leave you alone…unfortunately it was too late for us and we got quite a lot of attention from them each day which became a little testing!

Also be advised if you are taking the hotels taxi service back to the airport to have the correct amount of money, as our driver didn’t have change…something very minor but obviously he knew the fair and should have had the correct change to give us!
All in all we had a great time.

Hi, thanks for the great review! Some good points are raised:

Just to clarify - the little feet that scuttle across the tops of the honey pods definitely belong to little squirrels - technically we think that is a 'rodent', but definitely the more friendly type!! We have a cat which does its bit in keeping them away but they can get a bit frisky from time to time.

The point about English is a good one - most visitors don't realise that English is the 3rd language for many Goans, our staff included, so it's worth double-checking that any complicated requests have been fully understood - no different to staying in any other foreign country really.

Lastly, the hawkers on the beach are very limited in Ashwem compared to other parts of Goa, we definitely have no connection with them. The besy way to avoid anybody trying to sell you something in India is a shake of the head, or a simple no, and then look away - anything else tends to be taken as an invitation to talk!

The setting is idyllic, staff great, the food is really, really good and so are the cocktails. Best accomodation is 'Honey Pod 2' where we stayed which is right by the beach and they serve your fantastic breakfast at your own table looking over the beautiful beach. Other accomodation looks fine but just doesn't have such good sea views. My wife found the yoga class full of serious yoga people. I reckon in a few years the beach front will be developed much more - so go now! If you turn left on the beach and walk south for about 15 minutes you get to a fishing village (coloured boats photo opportunity); the other way is more touristy.

Room Tip: For a couple, Honey Pod 2 is the best. Otherwise ask for something as near the beach as possible.

My girlfriend and I had a great time at Yab Yum. The yurts are large, airy and clean and the resort is next to a stunning, quiet beach with amenities nearby. The food in the restaurant was the best we found in the area and the cocktails were also great! The yoga class was relaxing and the staff were always very helpful. We hired a moped for next to nothing and enjoyed the area. Highly recommended

I stayed here in November 2013. The room we were in was for 3 though we were only 2. The room was very clean and spacious and the bathroom was the best I have had in India. The only point which was lacking was the general atmosphere. Whilst not bad it just felt very stagnant or lacklustre; staff were polite enough though not endearing or engaging on any level, leaving us with a somewhat clinical impression, a smile would have gone a long way! The menu was also a little limited but the thalis which changed each night were absolutely outstanding!

We stayed at the Yab Yum at the end of our trip around India. Perfect place to chill out and enjoy the sea. Good food. Cool location. Yoga classes. Good service. Friendly staff. I would recommend this hotel.

Great soft sand, right on beach, groovy, no a/c not a problem. Rooms were clean, mosquito free, extremely quiet, and surprisingly airy. Stayed in both cabin and dome, and cabin might be a bit better than dome (maybe), but both are cool. Breakfast was very late all three days but it's not a big deal.
Two quibbles:
1. Please put hooks and shelves in bathrooms. It makes a big difference and the cabins have none. Also, in the dome, cover the window better. I was showering and a man walked by-if he turned his head, he could have seen, but the curtain is smaller than the window size.
2. There was a separate bill that had made up charges on it. As soon as my sister said something, the lady at the counter took it away without a word. I hate to say this, but maybe watch staff?

But overall great, especially with kids. I slept like a log and was really happy. :)

Hi, thanks for the review!
We're glad you enjoyed your stay, and also thanks for pointing out a couple of things including the breakfast being late, we need to really change our breakfast system for the coming season, it doesn't bother some people but we still need to get as close to perfection as possible!

Hooks, shelves and larger bathroom curtain is duly noted - we'll sort that out before we reopen in Oct. 2013.

Regarding the billing, it will have been human error in terms of somebody noting down the wrong room number on an order. We adjusted our billing system earlier in the season so there's no scope for anybody to benefit from charging incorrectly.
Thanks again! :-)
