Reviewed December 16, 2008

My wife and I decided to spend our Wedding Anniversary at the Radisson Resport & Spa at Alibaug which is a comfortable 2 hours 30 minutes drive from Mumbai.

Since our visit was just after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, our car was checked before we entered the resort.

The reception is small but has a good ambiance. We were offered a welcome drink which was soothing after the drive. The check-in was super quick. We were escorted by a staff member to our room and on the way she briefed us about the hotel and its policies.

We were given a pool side room on the first level. The room was a normal 5 star standard room with a 32" LCD TV, comfortable bed, work desk and a balcony overlooking the pool/lake

Like the guest in the review before mine has written, there was no in-room dining menu in our room, the table was not cleaned well - there was candle wax all over the table and the in-room mini bar was locked !

The bathroom was immaculate with good quality of toiletries which include a shaving razor, tooth brush, hair drier etc.

We had booked a 2 night package costing INR 22000 which included all meals. However to our disbelief since the hotel had only a limited number of guests when we visited the buffet meals were scrapped and we had to chose from a set-menu.

The portion of food that was served was dismal and when we asked for some more of the vegetable, we were told that this would be charged for.

I took up the matter with the hotel staff and almost decided to check out immediately on check-in, but for the hotel manager who handled the situation well.

The hotel has a piano bar and is a nice place to hang out in the evening since there is not much else to do around the hotel.

The person who plays the piano is very good.

The hotel also has a speciality restaurant which we did not try. We also did not try the spa and the gymnasium.

The swimming pool looked inviting with a sunken bar.

The internet in the rooms was not functional however I was able to use my laptop and connect to the internet from the business center. The internet speed was very good.

The hotel has security personnel at various points which was good to see after the recent happenings in Mumbai.

The taste of the food was pretty much ok. Some dishes (especially Chinese) needs to be fine tuned.

Overall except for the initial hiccup - the stay at the hotel was pleasant and the staff on the behest of the hotel manager went out of the way to make our stay comfortable.

There are some sour memories but I would myself not hesitate to visit this resort once again and can recommend this resort for a short stay at this property in Alibaug because at the moment there is no competition.

We went for a 2 nights package costing us Rs. 22,000. The cost is inclusive of taxes, food and accommodation.

Hotel Room - The room was nice with comfortable beds, LCD TV with cable, a backyard (since we stayed in the Ground Floor). The rooms could have been a little more spacious. Even though the high speed internet access was mentioned in their website, it was not working at the time we went, so we had to go to the business centre. They keep a fruit basket in the room. There was no in-room dining menu placed in our room, so we had to ask for one. The bathroom was absolutely neat with biotique products for shampoos etc. Our rooms was a non-smoking room (though we did not specify that). You can smoke outside the room.

Business Centre - This has a set of 3 computers with internet access in only computer ( the one used by the person who manages the business centre). As soon as we asked him for internet and since there were no other people waiting, we were able to access the internet.

Food - This was good. We were given a welcome drink of grape juice which was good. We suspect that for dinner they take the leftovers from lunch and try to make it into a new dish. Do not miss any part of the buffet food. It is truly awesome. Other than the buffet restaurant you have another specialty restaurant which we did not try.

Ambiance across the hotel - We went during the time when the season was just starting. So there was scraping work which was going on which did not offer much of privacy. The place is pretty neat with clear markings all over the place. There were security guards standing near our rooms. It will not take you more than 10-15 minutes to come a full round of the hotel.

Fun & Entertainment - The Pool is very neat with a depth of 4.5 meters. You are supposed to take a shower before entering the pool but the showers were not working. There is a pool side bar which was not fully functional when we went. There is an entertainment center which has the following: Foosball table, Air hockey table, carrom, Pool, Cricket, LCD TV and a disc. There is a DJ for the disc. There is also a fitness centre, a library, Mandara Spa, which we did not use.

Location - This is located much before the actual Alibaug town. The road leading to the hotel is really narrow. There is a chance that you might miss the road so its better to ask somebody. The Alibaug beach is around 3 kilometers from the hotel. The hotel does not offer any scenic views except of the small lake (which I find it hard to believe that it offers scenic view)

Radisson Alibaug is a beautiful property. Its aesthetically designed and very well maintained. Go threre if you want to stay in and relax all day. The rooms are just perfect, spacious, comfy with great bathroom and a balcony overlooking the pretty square. Do carry some DVDs if you plan to stay in as the hotel doesnt have any. The pool is certainly the biggest attraction. We found the water to be the right temperature and the pool wasnt overcrowded. We also tried the Mandara spa which has most of its staff from Thailand. The spa has a very interesting design and was a very realxing experience, though a tad expensive.

The food was covered in the package and the buffet spread was good but was a bit bland for our taste.

I loved the resort. i was skeptical after reading the previous reviews, but was pleasantly surprised on reaching there. the property itself was well equipped and maintained. they are now providing lots of toys for the children and very responsible lifeguards and caregivers for child care.
the rest of the saff was very helpful and friendly.
the lounges and disco was very chic and well designed.
we enjoyed as a family.
i was extremely satisfied.
we would recommend it highly.

Radisson is the best thing to happen to Alibaug. It was a pity that the Alibaug, Kashid, Murud coast did not have a luxury hotel option for so long.

The hotel is a comfortable 2-2.5hr drive from Mumbai (in monsoon) or a quick 1 hr catamaran ride from Gateway.

In these times of rising air fares, Radisson offers the best weekend getaway option for Mumbai folks. Its a luxurious property with comfortable & neat rooms. Amenities are good - it helps though that the hotel is brand new !

The Thai staff managed spa promises relaxation with all modern gizmos and distinctive ambience.

Food is good and recommend the all woman crew Konkani restaurant to savour the local delicacies.

There is plenty of water around - incl. a good pool. Staff is new but polite and courteous.

Would definately recommend this to everybody !

Looking for a lovely resort to spend the weekend with my 3 year old daughter and my 12 year old nephew and to also bring in my birthday, we decided to check out the newly opened Radisson Resort & Spa, Alibaug (about 3 hrs drive from Mumbai or 1 hour by catamaran)

Guess what? we were probably among their first 5 paying customers and we took the introductory offer pacakge and paid a hefty almost 480 USD (Rs 19,000) for the weekend. While booking itself, I checked with the sales head whether we were going to be their guinea pigs or is everything at the resort operational - tennis courts, the famous Mandara spa, indoor games, children corner etc. and the answer was a solid affirmative!

well, we reached the hotel and guess what? nothing was operational. No tennis courts, No SPA, No children corner, no indoor games...there was not even a ball available in the pool that could help entertain the kids. We were expected to stack uo in our rooms and watch TV all day and come out for meals or probably take a dip in the pool for 2 whole days and for the price that we paid and that too after all the assurances we were given about the operational facilities.

Even the rooms had their own share of start-up problems - the DVD was not connected and was not working, the AC had to be repaired, the bath tub sink had to be fixed, some bozo from room service woke us up in the middle of the afternoon offering to keep some free munchies - NOT ONCE BUT TWICE, the Lifeguards suggested we wear tight swimming trunks rather than loose ones as the GM had given orders for the same and even though our sitting area had a direct exit into the pool, we were asked to not use the same as per the orders of the GM. The Library was nicely built and we were reminded twice that there were 97 books but there was not a single book for kids even as old as 12 years.

Even when we expressed our disappointment, nothing much could be done and i was left trying to entertain 2 kids of diff age groups and with different expectations and my holiday turned completely hectic.

When I asked for some of the senior hotel folks so that i could share my feedback, I was told they were not available and the best that they could do was offer me some discount to compensate. They even accepted that some of these promises were made to me while booking but unfortunately they held no value.

So, we had no choice but to check out on the next day itself, kill our weekend plan and landed up being home for my birthday and guess what, they actually asked us when would we come to the property again :)

My only suggestion to them was to hold their horses before going all out to sell the property. Wait for some time while everything was operational and then give people the entire experience. and certainly dont make guinea pigs of paying customers.

So, all you folks excited about visitng the new 5 star reort and spa at alibaug, beware of the commitments made to you by the Sales team and do not expect any resolution of issues or problems once you are in the property!
