Akkalkot Swami Samarth Maharaj Temple

This holy places is the 'Samadhi sthan' of Jagadguru (guru of gurus) Shri Swāmi Samarth Mahāraj (Marathi: श्रीस्वामी समर्थ महाराज). Maharaj believed to be successor (incarnation) of Shri Narsimha Saraswati ( incarnation of Lord Dattatreya). Shri Narsimha Saraswati, after his role went for samadhi in Kardali ban. After, around 300 years from this incident, a woodcutter accidentally broke down a big ant hill and found Maharaj in yoga trance in it. From that time Maharaj traveled all over the country and eventually from 1856, set his abode at Akkalkot village in Maharashtra,India till 1878. On April 30th 1878, (Chaitra Vadya Trayodashi of Hindu year 1800) Maharaj ended his last conscious communication with all of us and adopted Mahasamadhi under his favourite banyan tree in Akkalkot. The temple later built on this place is known as 'Shri Swami Samarth Samadhi / Vatavruksh Samadhi Math'.

This is a holy place where one feels peace of mind and subtle powers of Shri Maharaj. I personally visit this place 5 times (every year for last 5 years) till now and wish to continue the visit every year.

One can take the darshan of Samadhi Sthal, Samarth Padukas with temples of other Hindu deities like Shri Ganapati, Lord Hanuman, Shri Shivalinga etc.

There are good lodges and hotel for stay and food. The temple trust also has build a large 'Bhakta Nivas' here for visitors and organise 'Mahaprasad' (Holi Meal) twice a day, 365 days of year totally free for visitors.

Its indeed a place, must to visit and get moksha.

The Vatawruksha Swami Temple is very old and nice place for religious retreat. Recommended to book the accomodation at Bhakta Nivas and stay overnight. There are religious rituals and activities starting from early morning till night. Don't miss the evening aarati around 8pm, followed by prasad at Annachhatra (delicious, free and heartful food) just beside the main temple (about 2-3 mins walk).
The town is not great except the Arms Museum and New Palace to visit. There is a good Shiva Temple at Shivapuri, which is about 4 kms from Akkalkot town. This place is very peaceful and serene and must visit if you happen to be in Akkalkot. Don't miss to visit the Samadhi Math before leaving Akkalkot. Recommended to go by a private vehicle, because the road condition and local autos are not good.

This is the place where swami samarth stayed for few years. It is a peaceful place if you get to visit without crowds, which is difficult. Moreover, the temple staff is all ready to make your experience unwanting by continuous pushing and reminding to move fast...........its very sad that you travel all the way to visit the temple from many kilometers and these people would not let you see the statue even for fraction of seconds............its irritating......temple surrounding are kept vey unhygienic like any other temples in India.......
