Reviewed July 29, 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Sheaf as we were attending our friends' wedding nearby.
The Sheaf was chosen due to the proximity to the wedding, and to some extent, price as we needed accommodation for two nights.
Cranborne is a tiny village, and the Sheaf is the local pub, with rooms. We were too late arriving on the Friday to eat, but the restaurant menu looked great. I was sorry to have missed the warm banana bread pudding! There is also an extensive bar food menu. During the day it is busy with walkers and tourists, but it's not so busy in the evenings.
The rooms (accessed by a locked, code entry protected door - so no members of the public wandering around) were clean, tidy and good value for money.
The breakfast in the morning, served in the pub, was plentiful and cooked to order, not left waiting on a hot plate (a pet hate of mine!).
The owners were incredibly helpful, putting us in touch with another guest going to the same wedding, advising on taxis and even offering to drive us into Salisbury when we realised my husband had left his tie at home!
Downsides? It took ages for the hot water to get to our sink in the morning, and there is absolutely no mobile phone reception (if that's a downside!).

Room Tip: Room 2 looks over the 'main' road, so plenty of tractors in the mornings!
