“Superb Sunday Carvery”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

I am not a real fan of carvery but i was definately bowled over by the carvery at The White Horse. The plates were hot, the meat was tender, the choice of vegetables was absolutely superb - they even had peas! Will be visiting again and reccommending - absolutely superb.

We staed here on our Lands /end-John O'Groats ride. Very helpful about stashing our bikes somewhere secure, nice meal in the evening, great breakfast. Really good place to stay, highly recommended

We have never stayed there overnight as we only live 'down the road'. However, having moved to Launceston only two years ago, we can confidently say that, as a pub and restaurant, it is EXCEPTIONAL. We eat there often (including for special occasions such as Christmas and Valentine's Evening) and the food is superb. The staff are exceedingly warm and friendly and we count ourselves blessed that we have it on our doorstep.

A lovely evening catching up with a friend over fantastic steaks on a deal, 2 steaks and good bottle of wine fo £245; can't beat that locally anywhere.
The 'sharing' pudding for two was superb; although very simple and perhaps overpriced at £8.95 for what is essentially 'ice cream' but, given that other puddings were £4.50 ish, it wasn't too bad. The taste and idea was superb, Good service, attentive but not over bearing due to the table top 'request' buzzer which could be used when anything was required. A good selection of meals at top quality presentation etc for reasonable money - we will be back.
The local band made our evening and ended up staying till 12 - a good evening, thanks White Horse Staff.

Room Tip: Didn't stay over - just ate there.

We received a friendly welcome and the staff helped us take our luggage to our double room.

The hotel is undergoing a makeover. The room was OK and had recently been decorated. However the en-suite makeover hadn't started and it was small, with a small sink, and in a poor state. There was a small tv in the bedroom and not flat screen as most are even in b&b's today.

The road outside was noisey and as it seems a popular pub, there was a fair bit of noisey drinking in the evening. However neither of these presented any problems to me sleeping.

The food in the restaurant was excellent. Best chips that we have ever eaten. The £20 for 2 steak dinners & a bottle of wine was very good value and the food was delicious. Nice range of ales.

Breakfast was ok on the first day but no fruit. We did mention it and on the second morning a plate of fruit awaited us - very attentive service.

It's convenient for exploring Launceston which is a short walk away - uphill!

Assuming the makeover is successful the pub deserves to succeed with a landlord and landlady who deliver great food and great service.

Hi, glad you enjoyed your stay. The pub is getting nearer the end of that big makeover and it's looking great. New bathrooms are the next big project. Hopefully they'll be finished by the next time you get a chance to stay.

I stayed here in August 2010, (options didn't extend that far), as the first stop on my Lands End - John O' Groats cycle ride. I found the staff, food and accommodation very good.

My room had a large double bed in a relatively spacious room, with a view of the street outside. In order to travel light, I had forwarded some "bits & bobs" to myself by post, so I didn't have to carry them on my bike. These were safe and sound, just like Martyn promised.

If you're cycling to The White Horse, be aware it is at the bottom of a very long and very steep hill - very welcome as you cycle down it, but less so, when you have to climb out the next morning.

Martyn stored my bike in the beer cellar, so I could relax with the piece of mind it would be safe and sound the next morning. I needed to get away early the next morning, as I had another 90 miles to cover that day. Luckily there were some other guests needing an early start, so Martyn was happy to start breakfast at 7.00am.

I only paid £35.00 B&B, which I commented as I left, was very competitive. I would have honestly paid more and still been happy.
