This was a good place to stop for supper on the long drive from London to West Cornwall. The food was really delicious and interesting. The service was efficient (in fact our food arrived more quickly than in most restaurants of that calibre, which suited us but might not work if you're planning a long, romantic dinner) and the host was very good at keeping chatty regulars/locals happy whilst not ignoring new guests like us. I also laud their endeavours to use locally sourced food.
The place doesn't have much atmosphere, which is a shame as the food deserves better. It's in a charmless basement, with simple furnishings. My main quibble though is with the price. You have to have at least 2 courses at £25 per person. That's quite steep even by London standards and it is especially unfair on vegetarians as their food costs far less and is far less filling. I had a lovely veg jambalya the ingredients of which must have cost an eighth of the huge piece of (wonderfully cooked) pork my companion ate. If they looked at their pricing structure, I'd definitely consider returning and recommending to others. But for the current prices I expect bells and whistles in excellent surroundings.

We have been to La Bouche a number of times over the last year. They are always welcoming, the food is always lovely and well cooked and is a little bit different to other places. The seafood thermidor and gumbo are both awesome.

I really like that the menu is a set price for everything as it makes it easier when going in a group or planning to take someone out as you can plan how much it will cost.

Heard great things about this place but alas, did not live upto it's reputation. Apart from being a bit on the pricy side the food was a big disappointment. The pork was overcooked and had no flavour the the risotto was like eating cheesy rice pudding. The food was nothing like i've experienced creole cooking in the Southern States. It had no flavour or spice. I'm sorry but I for one will not be returning

Down a long staircase in a very unlikely location you find this little star. Delicious starters and mains, very satisfying dishes prepared based on the cuisine of Louisiana - creole/french influences. Been only once, but would definitely go again.

Entering the restaurant down what feels a little like the back stairs created the wrong first impression for us, but once inside we were immediately welcomed into a small but nicely laid out room. The tables were large enough to seat 4 with space to spare, and were already complete with spicy nuts and a small bowl of olives.

The menu was not extensive but had plenty of variety, and as we had already seen it online our decision time was minimal. We chose to have starter and main course for the fixed price of £25pp, which was ideal for us but there was no option for a quick one course meal.

The food was excellent. Full of flavour and filling with more than adequate portion size. The The steaks were perfectly cooked, and the seafood is excellent.

Drinks were very well priced, and the wine list broad enough to cater to most tastes.

Service is personal and friendly without being overbearing, something very positive for a higher end dining experience!

We will be returning, and recommending this restaurant to our B&B guests who are looking for an intimate and more than a basic grab and go meal.
