“Very disapointing”

There was a big group of us and it was not obvious that they were expecting us even though we had booked. Ages to get any order taken, had to go to bar to order a drink, did not appear to know what Merlot wine was or where it was, an age for food to come, poor quality when it came, poppadoms soft, naan bread very doughy, pasanda sauce watery, frozen king prawns, pilau rice not great. Positives were quality of wine, friendly staff and cheap prices.

We were so looking forward to this; however it turned out to be a huge dissapointment.

On arrival it wasn't clear whether they'd expected us or not (we'd booked) and we were vaguely pointed in the direction of some unreserved tables. We noted the Draft Cobra on the menu had its price overwritten as £5-50 from the printed £4-95. Quite expensive but not a problem, except we didn't note a draught tap on the counter!

Sure enough when ordering same, we were told large botlles only. Which was fine.

The young lady who served us was pleasant but seemingly untrained, as she knew nothing of either the drinks or the menus.

We ordered Pappadoms; wiith Onion Bhajis and Butterflied Prawns as starters and a couple of curries and sides/rice as mains. The poppadoms arrived with the usual pickles etc in 4 small pots. Though they had no teaspoons to serve from. Again no big deal.

We ate our pappadoms and despatched the 2 large bottles of Cobra and ordered two more. (We noted a lady had ordered a small bottle and was still waiting for hers - she was later told "only big bottles" and declined).

We were looking forward to our starters, especially as the reviews of the food had been so good. (Though I am always a little sceptical of glowing reviews when they've almost all been made by people with only a handful of previous reviews to their name).

We were on our second large bottle of cobra by now and 40 minutes had passed. It was irritating to see so many takeaways go out in preference of the restaurant diners.

Then the second waiter came over and said that the waitress had misunderstood and that our starters (which we had oredered by their number on the menu) had been taken incorrectly as to be served as mains, implying our starters after all this time had still not been started on!.

So I'm sorry but at this point, we paid up for we'd had (beers & Papadoms) and left.

Maybe there was new staff on? Maybe some other problem? We don't know; but 40 mins for just papadoms isn't acceptable.

Just had a take away with my boyfriend and it was delicious. Especially the spicy fish curry. Would highly recommend this Nepalese restaurant. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Will definitely go again!

Fourth visit to Taste of the Himalayas, with some friends who hadn't been before, one of whom had lived in Kathmandu, so was very excited. All the food was superb, and the service friendly and attentive. We had the momos to start, which proved an excellent move.. I am a convert! Highly recommend this place.
