“Best beach view in the heart of Muine!”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

Muine Backpacker Resort is in the center of Muine, with the best beach view, next to Lam Tong Restaurant which is very affordable for restaurant in Muine.

Room is okay & pretty clean. Sand dunes Tour is available from the hotel, but if you want you can go outside and find more cheaper tour..

Book in advance otherwise the room can get full..

Thank you for your review. We are happy that you appreciated our lovely view from the Ocean View Rooms. Our tours are very reasonably priced and are the best value in Mui Ne. We cover all the sights not just the sand dunes as most of the less scrupulous operators do. We take our guests to the Fairy Springs and the Fishing Village of Mui Ne. Many thanks for staying with us on your visit to Mui Ne.

We had a great stay here. The owner is really friendly and was great to chat to, but also knew when to leave you alone.
Although it looks like there's minimal sunbeds out back, we never struggled to secure one (without getting up early and leaving a towel)
The sea is rough, but warm! When the sea is at it's roughest (mid afternoon) it can be a bit of a struggle to get down via the steps, but you just have to be brave.
We stayed in one of the twin private rooms, the beds were big enough to share though.
The bathroom was lovely with a nice hot and powerful shower.
The only downside was a strange noise at night, maybe caused by the air con in other people's rooms, we're not sure.
We had a nice balcony to sit and play cards with a beer, which is reasonably priced in the mini bar.
No food here, but plenty of options down the street or next door.

Room Tip: Our private twin room was perfect for a couple.

This is one of my favorite place to stay in this resort village. It has been fully renovated two years ago. It is simple, yet clean and affordable. Their reservation system is not reliable but it is common practice in Vietnam. The room as spacious and the bungalow are very cool, which is good in tropical country.

This hostel is almost always full and even your booking does not guarantee you a room. The best is to come early in the day, even with a firm and paid booking

Room Tip: Book the rooms with windows open on the Pacific Ocean or a bungalows at the back, for cool and fres...

Dear Joe, Thank you for your kind words and recommendation. We would like to know more about your issue with our booking system and would appreciate if you could contact us directly by email. Our booking system is online and is guaranteed. We do not take reservations without a deposit. We hold the booking for the specified time on the booking agreement. My girlfriend and I stayed for 5 nights in April 2013 - Mui Ne Backpackers is by far the best standard of room and accommodation of our trip so far. It's more like staying at a resort, with an excellent pool area, deck chairs and a terrific garden overlooking the beach.

Staff are literally constantly cleaning the entire outdoors area - sweeping, cleaning the pool and tending the garden. It's an amazingly well maintained place. The rooms are the same; clean, all 'new' and with great shower/toilet (and separate!) and a fridge stocked with beer.

+Positive+ :
1) Well situated near the sea. If you like to rest and tan by the sea, it is really appropriate.
2) Small, but clean rooms with a good room service. Young and friendly women staff.
3) Good and cheap restaurants close and around.
4) Enjoyable pool.
5) Thuy, one of the owners, helped us booking our next hotel room by speaking in vietnamese.

-Negative- :
1) Every night, noisy neighbour bar (Joe's LiveMusic) near the rooms. Not good if you stay here to rest and go to sleep before midnight.
2) No internet in our room (207).
3) A bit too expensive for the kind of resort experience you receive. We didn't feel like we were in Vietnam.
4) Travel agency is not reliable. We had a misunderstanding with the agent that cost him 10 minutes of his time and we apologized for it, but we didn't get any comprehension in return from him neither from the owners of the resort.
We have been verbally insulted and almost physically aggressed, because we refused to give him some kind of compensation that he violently claimed and justified as a normal service charge from Vietnam Railways which actually doesn't exist.

We personally recognize that we made some errors during our stay (losing a bike key and the unwanted and unlucky conflict with the agent), but the owners showed poor comprehension and desire helping us to solve the problem with their travel agency. We signaled by email the problem about the violence of their travel agent and they responded by not taking any responsibilty and criticizing us as clients.

For a much better value at Mui Ne, we recommend Hoang Lai, a bit further from the sea, but a real vietnamese experience with big bright rooms with balcony and gorgeous view for only 6 USD per person (almost the third we've paid at Mui Ne Backpackers).

Dear Jean, Thank you for taking the time to review our property. Most of your review reflects the nature of our hostel, however, some does not. It seems as with previous correspondence with you the issue you have is with our travel agent. Your first 4 points are correct except that my wife rang forward on your behalf on 3 occasions and fielded a number of calls from the hotel at your destination. The noise from our neighbour is minimal and can barely be heard in the rooms after 10.30pm. Our room rates are between $10 and $40 less per room as compared to our neighbours on the beachfront.. Please do your research if using this forum. As with our previous correspondence, if you found our Vietnamese agent aggressive or imposing then we sincerely apologise. Regarding the bicycles .. they were loaned to you at no charge as they were being donated that day to the local orphanage. We feel that you are being punitive towards us without taking any responsibility for your own actions. You reserved a room which we allowed to be cancelled at no cost to you. The train tickets were booked with the agent then cancelled by you. You chose to have tickets delivered to the agent even though you did not book through him.

The staff are friendly and the person working the desk during business hours speaks fluent English. The owners and the staff are very friendly, I recommend having a beer with them if you can. They helped me extend my stay and and plan some complicated logistics for the next part of my trip.
