“Awful!!!”
Reviewed August 2, 2011

We stayed here for 1 night as we had been to Sowerby to see a band. The room was nice enough but the bathroom was not very clean. The service in the resturant was great but the food was average.
When coming in at midnight from the concert we were accosted and asked a million questions by the landlord who was very aggressive and 'in your face'!
The following morning the landlady pushed breakfast on us and was really rude. Her attitude was appalling. No offer of extra tea, toast, type of breakfast we wanted. Ruined the stay for us - would never go back!

The breakfast was great, but you have to phone when you want to get in after hours.
And the way I was talked to on the phone was terrible, good job his wife came down to let us in. Will stay again but for the location and food, not the people

Room Tip: All the rooms are ok

My surnames Sowerby so I was curious to see what the place was like. The Inn is located in a great spot nestled in the hills Sowerby is a lovely place with canals, locks and barges; perfect in summer. The Inn was busy day and night but in a good way. The room was disappointing, mainly as the front rooms have a great view, we had a view of a grassy bank and sign post. Stone interior walls were lovely but the room lacked size and character. The restautant makes the Inn quite self contained. I jokingly asked the owners not to treat me any different given my name, rather disappointingly they didn't. The Inn is great for walkers, dog lovers, pub lovers and people who just want to get away from it all. You woukd need a car to explore, quite hilly area so no high heels. Overall......very good x

We have just returned from Yorkshire and had a night at the Alma Inn B&B and have to say I am rather confused by the below reviews ! We enjoyed the food and the pizza's were great ! Rooms not 5 * standard but its a Pub with rooms !!! They were clean and tidy with lovely hot showers ! I think some people expect too much from B&B, if you want 5* then pay 5* prices and stay in a Hotel !! Our breakfast was lovely and all of our group agreed. Overall its a nice Pub in a lovely location and we will certainly use again if staying over in Yorkshire.

Room Tip: Room 2 at front has lovely views over the valley.

Did not stay in the hotel but ate here, we ordered chicken tikka pizza & chips. There was only a couple of pieces of chicken on the pizza and we when explained there didn't seem a lot of chicken, we were told to cut it up and spread it around the pizza, surely the chef should have done this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also the chunky chips were very very well done and they looked like they had been re-fried about a thousand times, but we were told that is how they come. All i can say is the landlady is rude, misrable and has no customer skills whats so ever she didn't offer to replace the chips, i will never eat there again, it is overpriced and obviously they are not wiling to listen to the customer. I would never recommend anyone to eat here, i would rather go to pizza hut than the Alma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was planning on having my wedding here.
I called the Alma Inn and asked to speak to the manager. I then explained to the gentlemen what I wanted and my requirements. He said he could do this and arranged a meeting with me and my fiancee for the day after at 6 o clock. We arrived and asked to see him . We got told he was not there so we left our phone number with the barman to ask him to call us. We recieved a call 2 days later and another meeting was made for saturday afternoon. We arrived and again he was not there. We decided to leave and not bother - if the man cannot turn up for an initial meeting about the venue , then why should be give them our custom and all the money they would have made from our wedding. Very dissapointed, waste of time and petrol getting there!

We drove just under 200 miles to stay in this Hotel which was recommended in the February issue of Olive Magazine for great views. Yes the view was great but not worth the horrible nights stay. The room was dirty, lightbulbs did not fit the lamps, the bed was uncomfortable and the bedding tired looking. It was cobweb heaven.
Food was very average a run of the meal pizzeria. Breakfast was practically thrown at us with no choice of eggs or how we liked our bacon but worst of all was the very unfriendly manner in which we were treated. Complain??? No the woman was far too scary we just grabbed our bags, paid the bill and made a fast exit
