Our daughter kindly arranged for my wife and I to have a weekend break at this hotel. We arrived on a lovely warm Saturday afternoon and enjoyed a couple of drinks on the hotels decking overlooking the valley. Our room was at the rear of the hotel so unfortunately did not have a view of the valley. However, the room was sizeable, very clean and very nicely furnished. The restaurant was almost full on the Saturday evening which is always a good sign. We enjoyed a very nice meal. I have ribs to start followed by a Rib Eye steak. The steak was particularly good being both tender and tasty. The restaurants aim seems to be to provide well cooked, quality ingredients rather than “fancy” food. Breakfasts begin with the usual selection of cereals, fruit and yoghurt. The cooked breakfast to follow was tasty and substantial. I did not need to eat again until the evening, Thanks to Chris, Louise and the rest of the pleasant and helpful staff for a very enjoyable weekend. We will visit again in the not too distant future.

Went to the hobit for a bite to eat and a drink the place has been refurbished very nicely and stylish the staff are very polite and friendly. The food we found very tasty with large helpings and to sit outside with the beautiful views is just an added bonus.

We've lived in Norland for 3 years now and this place has been closed, refurbished, closed, refurbished and so we have never been before. So when we went the other night we were very pleasantly surprised to A) find it open, B) discover delightful decor, and C) have a delicious meal that didn't cost the earth! Only little gripe was that some of the seats' springs had gone, but after a bit of musical chairs we found some comfy ones and enjoyed a family meal in lovely surroundings.

A group of 6 of us visited for a meal tonight. The food was lovely, presented beautifully and tasted fantastic. The food was very reasonably priced and we couldn't fault anything. We all had a variety of starters, mains and desserts and everyone was very impressed. The staff were friendly and helpful. The interior of the pub was lovely, Cosy and welcome. A great night had by all, we would highly recommend.

Had a two night stay with my mother on a voucher deal. This is a nicely refurbished 14 (?) room hotel set high on the hillside above the town of Sowerby Bridge. They did not have twin rooms but very kindly added a single bed to the kingsize already in the room, still leaving plenty of space to move. Both beds were superb quality and so comfy. Great shower and bath with lovely toiletries. Variety of complementary hot drinks and biscuits. We had dinner one night and thoroughly enjoyed it, perhaps not cordon bleu, but certainly very good and excellent value. Loved the breakfast. Help yourself to tea/coffee, toast, fruit, yoghurt, croissants (a little stale - sorry) etc., and the full English or your variation thereof is served to you very promptly. Think the hotel has been fairly recently refurbished and perhaps would benefit from a comprehensive snagging list but really could not say there was anything that spoiled our enjoyment so would not bother to comment. The hotel seems to be geared up to couples (or 2 adults like ourselves) and although we did see a couple of kids around, I would not say it was the ideal place for them. Sowerby Bridge itself looks somewhat run down and sorry for itself with many units closed and boarded up but within a short drive are some glorious West Yorkshire towns, villages and scenery to visit. Finally and most definitely leaving the best until last, the staff at the New Hobbit are it's best asset. They were unfailingly polite, pleasant, friendly and efficient and went out of their way to put right anything that may not have been quite right. They made our stay a complete pleasure and the management can be very proud of them. Thanks to all for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: We had room 1 which gives onto the car park although people cannot really see clearly into the room...

We stayed at the Hobbit For two nights on Friday 9 and 10 August, having not stayed at the hotel previously we were a little apprehensive as to what we may find. On our arrival, the welcome given by the staff was exceptional with one member taking us to our room, a service you don't get with the larger hotel chains.

We had a room on the rear of the hotel and this was of a good size, quality and extremely comfortable. The room had everything we required to enjoy the weekend and the positioning certainly did not detract on our enjoyment.

We dined at the hotel on the Saturday evening and the food was home cooked, well presented and plentiful, be careful though if you consider having the Hobbit burger as this is not for the faint hearted........ The restaurant is well liked locally as on both fully booked on both the Friday and Saturday so ensure you book before you travel.

The staff are very attentive and eager to please ensuring you have an enjoyable break, all members are a credit to the owners who themselves go out of their way to talk to you and who are keen to obtain feedback on their new venture. We would like to thank everyone for a wonderful weekend break, so much so that we've booked again and look forward to visiting the Hobbit in two weeks time.

My husband booked two nights for us at The New Hobbit and I must admit we were somewhat disappointed. Before I start can I just say that the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and it was a shame the owners weren't around.

We were allocated room 3 on arrival it is small and to the back of the hotel with views of a wall.

The room have been recently renovated but the owners could do with actually sleeping in each of the rooms with their wife or partner to see how things just don't work.

The room had a wall filled mirrored wardrobe but trying to do hair or makeup was a nightmare no plug socket near to mirror so hairdryer and mirror could not be used at the same time.
Bathroom very small
No where to hang damp towels.

Spoke to duty manager who was very helpful and agreed to move us the the Bridal Suite the next night. However upon returning to the hotel the following day we were told this was no longer possible and we were moved to room 5. Ok plug sockets near mirrors but directly above kitchen so very noisy extraction unit and early wake up as kitchen staff arrived for work

Food in the restaurant was ok sunday lunch good value
Would I stay again Sorry No

Room Tip: Don't have room 3 or 5

Thank you for your review ,

Before I cover some of your points may I introduce myself as the owner of The New Hobbit. And thank you for your kind comments regarding my staff, It is infact one of the reasons I do not need to be on the premises at all times. My manager made me aware we had a guest who was having some trouble with the distance between the sockets and the mirrors. It is not something we have come across in the previous 504 nights we have sold since opening 2 months ago and in response to this we will be installing further mirrors

With reference to hanging damp towels there is a heated towel rail in every bathroom;

The New Hobbit is built into the hillside high above the Calder valley which allows fantastic views and many lovely country walks. The wall you are referring too will be the cliff face of the hillside we are situated on. The cliff face is still 25 yards away from the bedroom windows and does not look unsightly or hamper any natural light reaching the room.

It would of been nice of you to mention that we offered you a power extension .
It would also have been nice of you to mention we gave you a free bottle of Presecco for any inconvenience caused.
We did also move you and your luggage to another room with more convenient plug sockets.

We do always try to provide guests with the best possible experience, but I do accept we can not please everybody all the time.

Thank you again for your constructive feedback
