“Great little get away”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at the Turnpike recently for one night on the Duvet, Wine and Dine offer to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff are very friendly and made our stay special throughout.
The Turnpike is a lovely contemporary country inn, very welcoming, with a good ambiance. Our room was clean, spacious and nicely decorated, with large windows overlooking the dam. The bathroom was modern, spacious and clean.
The food if of a high standard, and although we had a set menu there was plenty of choice. The breakfast was also lovely with a good selection.
We will definatley be revisiting the Turnpike and would recommend it highly.

I stayed here overnight in April 2013. Check in was smooth and efficient, the room was large and clean, bed comfy and bathroom fitted out to a high standard but it did feel slightly characterless - a bit like a Travelodge grafted on top of a buzzing country inn. That being said we did sleep very soundly indeed and the breakfast was made to order and good quality. The Turnpike therefore was decent value for money and we will have no hesitation using it again but, sadly, it is in no way extra special.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1 which is at the back of the property away from the main road. Probably a good op...

Had a roast dinner from the carvery a couple of weeks ago. The meat was lovely but the roast potatoes and the veg were cold. I expected more for the money. we also had to queue for ages at the bar to be served. I believe this was due to the heat wave and the staff not expecting to be so busy.

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to The Turnpike. Our carvery selection changes regularly and I would encourage you to pop in for lunch again soon to see what seasonal produce we have to offer.

We called in for lunch during the week as it was close to the M62 on our way home. We each ordered a bowl of soup with a roll, and I ordered a hot beef sandwich in bloomer bread, and my husband ordered the turkey club sandwich in bloomer bread. We also ordered a bowl of chips to share. What we actually got was a plate which contained everything. The soup was a cup of pureed carrot (carrot and coriander soup), the bloomer bread was actually two slices of ordinary sliced loaf, and the chips to share just filled a cup which was on my plate. There was very little beef in my sandwich and no gravy so I asked for some horseradish and was told they had "sold out", (perhaps they had sold out of bloomer bread as well). We decided not to bother with the dessert and coffee. Not a very good experience and would not go again.

Thank you for your review of your lunch here at The Turnpike Inn. I am sincerely very sorry that you left feeling disappointed by your visit. I think there may have been some confusion between our 'soup or chips and sandwich' deal which we offer at lunchtimes and our daily menu, with soup as a starter and a larger portion of chips as a side order. I can again only pass on my apologies that what should have been served as starters were served incorrectly. All team members have now been briefed to clarify which the guest would prefer when taking orders at the tables.

A very pleasant venue that is easy to access. A friendly welcome and reasonable food (if a little pricey) combined with plenty of parking and if the weather is nice good outside seating (though road noise can be an issue). Make this an Ideal location for business meetings or get togethers. Just off J22 of the M62. It is also a nice place to meet up with family or friends in the evening or at weekends (accommodation is also part of the offering if required). Not the best pub you will have visited but great for what it is.

The location of this restaurant is brilliant and has lovely views. The food was delicious and the service was great! Restaurant is well decorated and modern. Good atmosphere and tables are spaced out nicely. In the main restaurant the kitchen is open so you can see the chefs in action!
Good experience and will visit again

Wow!!!! What can I say! I'm a carvery lover so have visited a few, never written a review before (time) so thought I would do this sat at the table.
Very pleasant staff, impeccable cleanliness and amazing food!
Even being taken to your carvery by staff, very pleasant. No queue, no rush, a happy chef and all full dishes.
Will definitely recommend.
Off to the bar now to finish my wine :)
