“Just awful Father's Day Lunch”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

Party of eight went for a Father's Day lunch at the Prince of Wales, which had been recommended as a much improved place to eat. It was a disaster. Three of the party ordered asparagus soup for starter which was inedible verging on lethal. Stringy asparagus had been shredded but not sieved and the bowls were filled with long strands of completely indigestible material. Fortunately the two young children among us ordered something else. When it was pointed out to the Maitre D his response was a sullen glare and the price was not even deducted from the bill! The rest of the meal was typical of sub-standard restaurants with sub-standard so called chefs taking bookings well above their ability to serve their customers properly. Never again.

“Really disappointing”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

We visited with a large party at Xmas and whilst the venue is lovely. The food was terrible and the service terrible! We were essentially shouted at by the owner as by the time all of our party arrived we were 15 minutes late to our table, there are ways of speaking to people and this guy certainly doesn't have it! Clearly he was stressed, but I would have expected as the owner of a restaurant you would be used to dealing with large bookings and would have been able to manage during busy periods and make your guests feel welcome. Instead we were made to feel like our business wasn't welcome and a massive inconvenience for him. The food was a disgrace. I had the shredded duck salad, which was basically a huge lettuce leaf with large chunks of duck thrown on a plate. For the main I had lamb, which was hopelessly overcooked and my husband had a cod dish, which was tasteless. For dessert they had 'forgotten' to sweeten the cheesecake and so it was awful. We were offered an alternative, which we declined, due to the experience to date. We expected to have it deducted from the bill, however apparently because we'd declined a replacement he wasn't prepared to do. Just totally shocking experience. Will definitely not be going back to eat. Such a shame as the place could be so lovely!

“Good menu, good service, good value good atmosphere”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

The restaurant has matured and established itself as a very good choice for a meal out. We had a prawn starter, loins of cod in a lobster bisque sauce, rack of lamb and a couple of sirloin steaks and all six of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The Argentinian Malbec and Sancere were very good too. Richard and his staff are attentive and efficient. The wine list is sensible without being extensive and the prices are good when you consider the quality. It's equally good just to pop in for a quick pint.

“A Sunday Lunch, very enjoyble!”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Took lunch on 11th Nov, around 12:30 and hadn't booked. Plenty of space but by 1:00pm very busy.
Nice atmosphere in the restaurant area, Id imagine a little cheerless if empty but not the case that day. Limited parking but plenty over the road.
Took elderly mother along too and she was very well looked after, only a couple of steps to consider. Mixed clientele with kids, 30's to 80's all in abundance.
Lots of staff attended to us so no waiting at all for food or drinks. All were smiley and cheerful.
In summary, good value meal and unlike many pub restaurants locally, hasn't lowered quality of food to hit a price.
Wasn't expecting much in honesty but left feeling full, cheerful and as though money was well spent.
