“A big let down...”
Reviewed June 11, 2009

We had heard about Sterling Resorts, so we went there after our honeymoon for a short getaway, but were extremely disappointed and had the worst time ever!
The long climb to our cottage, was, in a way, quite charming and ideal for the kind of getaway we wanted - and our cottage was on the edge of the cliff, overlooking the valleys, with amazing scenery... but this was the only good thing about our stay there!
The rooms were not cleaned properly to begin with and the TV was not working, and we had to call 3-4 times before someone even bothered to come and check. It was a room with a "kitchen" where we were supposed to be able to heat-and-eat etc., but the kettle was from pre-historic times and there were very few utensiles, most of which were not even cleaned!
Needless to say, the service was extremely poor - the food we ordered came 2 hours later, and already cold (we had to call thrice in that time, and were told each time that "it was on its way"!)
To top it all, there were power cuts for 3-4 hours every day, when we were left in the dark, with nothing to do, no TV, not even a torch/candle - and being in a lonely cottage on the edge of a cliff did not help...
We decided to eat at the restaurant (given the quality of room service) on one of the days - the restaurant was a bit better - atleast the food was hot and served quicker.
There was also a "common room", a saving grace, esp when we were bored to death during the power cuts - this had some games, books to read etc. which we could borrow.
Overall, it could have been an ideal holiday spot, with great views of the valleys, but the horrible service spoiled it all for us...

But for the never ending steps that you need to climb to go around the hotel, this is a nice place to stay especially for big families. The food at the restaurant is excellent; especially the fish and soups. This place is a good value for money if you are not looking at star comforts. The best part of this palce is the massage center where you can get soothing oil massages for very less money ! Nice views ... The location is a bit far from the town center.

my husband and i took my parents(who were visiting us) to Yercaud for the long weekend to spend some quality time together. We stayed at the Sterling resorts property in Yercaud. Sterling Resorts have a sprawling property and at a great location. But the maintenance of the property is extremely poor. One of our rooms was stinking of rotten eggs and the housekeeping staff did not come till we called them thrice and blasted them and that too after 2 hours of check-in! there were no soaps, etc in the room till we asked for them...againtill we called them thrice and blasted them and that too after 2 hours of check-in. the Room service was extreeemely poor and all our meals came after 1.15 hours of our ordering and our calls for repeated reminders. On our reminding the room service about our order placed, they lied saying that the order had already left the kitchen...maybe it was being delivered via Salem!!!

I have just returned from a 3 day break in Yercaud Sterling resorts . The best way to get there is to take a train to Salem and then a bus/van/car uphill . The journey provides stunning views of the Shevaroys of the Eastern Ghats . The valleys are breathtaking and brimming with life .
The resort ,next to the Lady's seat view point ,is extremely well maintained and the staff are very polite . The view from the resort is picturesque , with Salem on the left and the lush green hills on the right .
When you visit the resort please specifically ask for the rooms 328/329/330/331 (we just loved the view from our room). The restaurant in the the resort is not great . There is a small vegetarian mess called Venkateswara in the Yercaud town ,it is resonably priced and the food is exquisite .
Last but not least , there is'nt a single ATM in Yercaud , please make all your withdrawals in Salem , down hill .

  • Liked — The view from the rooms
  • Disliked — The climb to and from the room is tiring
