Me and my wife stayed at the Grand from 17th-23rd February 2013
Overall a very well run hotel, and probably the best hotel in the resort (we have stayed at the SNP and Junior hotels previously)
The room was excellent, very well equipped, and appeared to be newly decorated. The bathroom was especially good with a choice of 2 showers
I think one of the main selling points for the Grand is the Wellness Spa.
Guests get 1 free admission to the spa each day. There is a choice of at least 2 steam rooms (one is the biggest I've ever seen), and many saunas. You have to go outside to get to saunas in other buildings which is fun, but the ground can be pretty icy. One sauna even has a window looking on to the ski run behind.
Also 2 outdoor whirlpools. It's quite something sitting outside in a hot tub surrounded by deep snow. The swimming pool isn't very big, not one you can do lengths in, more for the kids.
The restaurant breakfast buffet and especially the evening meal buffet was to a very high standard. The hot meals whether beef, chicken, pork, fish served by the chefs were always perfectly cooked.
Nice atmosphere in the area between the lobby and the restaurant. Very much a family scene
There was music played every night - mostly a guy playing covers on his keyboard, occasionally a band or 'string quartet'
However there always seemed to be a queue at Reception - we got fed up waiting a couple of times.
They might think about supplying a couple more computers to browse with, they get very busy especially in the evening with kids playing games.
Think twice before you order cocktails at the bar - you may regret it. We had a warm and tasteless "caipirinha"! "Sex on the Grand" was pretty good though.
There is a very good ski shop, although it's also very expensive. I'm afraid we were let down by the ski hire though. There were no ski boots in our size (that's never happened before - we're not giants!) and no helmets. We had to go to the main place to hire skis in Biela Put. We are glad we did because they were very well organised and got us set up very quickly, including helmets which we rented for the 1st time.
We really liked the fact that you can get your ski gear on in the morning in the hotel (there is a room where you can leave your equipment), and the Grand Jet chairlift is only a few metres away from the hotel. entrance.
Will definitely go back because it's probably the best
