“Amazing!”

The Old School is a wonderful B&B in gorgeous surroundings. The breakfast there is faultless and we slept unconsciously in the incredibly comfortable bedroom.
We were in need of loving tender care and we found it there in abundance. The owners Yvonne and Steve are very warm and welcoming people and treated us like VIPs from the moment we arrived. Winston, their feathered friend is a real character and really made us smile during our stay.

If there is a better one I would be surprised! Spacious and comfortable room, well appointed and really well equipped. Super breakfast; I have never seen such a well presented and sumptuous fruit salad! Yvonne and Steve are outgoing and welcoming hosts who clearly take huge pride in their business, house and beautiful garden. Great location close (but not too close) to the A1 and an excellent pub/restaurant a short walk away for your evening meals. And the pub serves decent real ales as well. I cannot praise this establishment enough..... Where is the 6th star?

We picked The Old School as it was the closest place to a wedding venue we were attending and we had a wonderful stay. Yvonne and Steve who run the B&B were wonderful hosts who made us feel welcome from the off. We arrived to tea and cake on the balcony (and a chat with Winston the vocal parrot) and a view over the beautiful garden which is a wonderful entrance to this B&B. The room (Bedroom 2) was a great size, was well decorated and furnished and was immaculate - it was also attended every day which was far more than we expected. It was well catered and Yvonne and Steve had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. The breakfast each morning was lovely - the effort that Yvonne put into the fruit salad each morning was wonderful - an amazing start to the day - and there was a great choice each morning.
Yvonne, Steve and Winston went out of their way to make us right at home and could not do enough for us throughout our time there. I would recommend this B&B to anyone visiting this area - being right next to the main A1 (although far enough away that you can't hear it) it has great access to the whole region. It is 10 minutes from the beach, 20-30 minutes from Alnwick and the castle, and easy access to the major cities in this area. The local pub is a 2 minute walk away and does lovely food to cater for everyone.
We will be making the effort to visit Yvonne and Steve again as the area was lovely and an area we would like to visit again, but also because we were made so welcome that we would take the time to travel north again.

We stayed for three nights. It was just perfect. Steve welcomed us and showed us to our lovely room. Yvonne made us a pot of tea with delicious home made cake. There was everything we could want here including a fridge in the landing with complementary water and snacks. The bedroom and bathroom were fantastic. Spotlessly clean and incredibly comfortable. There is a beautiful garden to sit in if the weather is kind which it was for us and a brilliant pub nearby called the Chef and Barker which does fantastic, good value food. But the best bit is Steve and Yvonne themselves. Welcoming and friendly, we left feeling we had been staying with friends rather than in a b&b. completely fantastic.

We had to cut our visit short, but that means that next time we go, we shall stay longer. We were met by Yvonne & Steve & were offered a pot of tea & cake after we were shown to our room. The room was spotless, the bed wonderfully comfortable - wish I could have taken it home - and breakfast was just what we needed to set us up for sightseeing. Yvonne & Steve made us feel very welcome & we can't wait to go back

We chose this B&B for a weekend getaway and we both wish that we could have stayed longer. The little hamlet of Newton on the Moor holds about a dozen buildings which include a lovely pub/restaurant that is regionally known, and The Old School, which is the last building on the left as you travel through the town.
The new owners since December '12, Steve and Yvonne, are a real treasure. Both are so welcoming and eager to please.
When we arrived, Yvonne set up a lovely tea tray with cake on a little table in an alcove that looks out over lovely gardens. The day was beautiful, so the doors were open on the veranda and how could we not relax while enjoying the tiny birds flittering around while admiring the gorgeous colors of the poppies and other blooming plants?
We walked up a curved staircase to our room, #3, the first on the left. Ahead was the lovely sitting area looking out over the gardens.
We found our room to be quite large, holding a king size bed, as well as guest chairs and small bureau, armoire and a desk. There was a hospitality tray with tea/coffee/hot chocolate and packaged cookies, and bottled water and glasses.
The bathroom held plenty of towels, including washcloths. The shower had a great hot water flow, and there were bottles of shower gel as well as shampoo mounted in the shower for convenience. (I was so glad to see both as many B&B's in the UK don't offer shampoo)
The towels were not changed out, but we had been given so many that we had fresh towels for the next day. There were terry guest robes for our convenience hanging in the armoire.
There was some confusion with the wi-fi, but once we figured that out, the signal was great.
The room included a clock radio, hair dryer, and a flat screen television, but since we don't watch tv, I cannot elaborate on that.
There is a complimentary computer in the hall for guests who wish to use it. There were loads of tour books and info packages on the many things to do in the area.
Parking is in a lot next to the house, off of the road.
Breakfast is on the first floor in a lovely room that is decorated with beautiful delft china and figurines. There is a huge bay window which overlooks the street, but one can see beautiful mountains in the background.
We were given a list of choices for breakfast, and we were told to just let Yvonne and Steve know what time we wanted to eat. They were more than happy to cook breakfast a tad bit earlier than usual for us, as we had a somewhat early departure on Sunday.
Yvonne makes excellent porridge, and she gave us pure Maple Syrup to put on it. The breakfast room holds different types of cereals, yogurt, jams and jellies and a lovely fresh fruit salad was served both mornings. We could have as much toast as we liked, and tea and coffee as well.
The entire experience was extremely well done.
If you want to be pampered a bit, then this is certainly the place to stay.

We stayed for just one night as we had a wedding in Northumberland... We would have loved to stay longer! The rooms were lovely with an attention to detail not normally present in B and Bs. The ensuite was perfect for our needs and immaculately clean and the view from the window beautiful.
This little B and B was in a perfect place to explore Northumberland and Alnmouth just down the road. Newton on the Moor is tiny and quaint and good food is just a stone's throw away at the Cooke and Barker.
Steve and Yvonne, the owners, couldn't have been more amazing. They were so welcoming and friendly, Steve even dropped us off at Eshott for our wedding as we were struggling to get a taxi!
In the morning we had a lovely breakfast chosen from a good choice of traditional breakfasts: from porridge to a Northumberland Platter! And it was cooked and presented beautifully as the coffee flowed!

I couldn't say better about this little gem tucked away in Northumberland!

Go there! And stay for more than one night!
