“"Yet another great Sandals Whitehouse experience!"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2013

We’ve been home for only a week now and are wishing we were back on the beach at Sandals Whitehouse! We have written several other reports on the WH before so I will try to keep this one short. We have been to SWH six times and have number seven already booked. We have also been to most of the other Sandals and do travel to many other destinations extensively, and feel we are pretty veteran travelers. We truly enjoyed our recent SWH experience for all the same reasons we’ve mentioned in past reviews of the WH. The second to none beach, the three great pools, the many great restaurant choices, tons of water activities, outstanding staff, the new seating areas in the Bayside area, the new fire pits, and on and on (see our other reviews). We did have the chance to meet the new GM, Mr. G. We were a little worried when the WH lost Carl, the previous outstanding GM, but we are no longer worried. Mr. G is definitely out and about around the property, as well as his leadership team. It is really nice to see them engaging their guests. Thank you Mr. G for making it another special experience this past week.

I’ll approach this review a little differently by commenting on some of the concerns that others may occasionally bring up about the WH and how we recently experience them. The road, obviously nothing under the WH control, has improved. The new repaving project is well under way, with more still to go. The serving sizes at all the restaurants are appropriate, but sometimes a little small for some. You just simply ask for more or even a second entre while ordering and it is never a problem. We just had lobster and knew it was small, so we ordered two each to start with. We have been in all of the different room categories and have found them all to be nice. Obviously if you have a butler suit it will be bigger and include more, but you are paying for that. The entire resort is only seven years old and we have never seen any major signs of aging. That being said, the WH is continuing to keep the rooms in that great shape by doing some extensive guest room updating, starting with the French Village. Some have asked about the entertainment, we have always found it to be available and with many different choices each evening. This past week we found 3 or 4 different evening entertainment options every night (including the fabulous Rory Franken). There are outside and inside evening entertainment options every night. As far as the lounge chairs at the WH, there are approximately 800 of them! If at full capacity there would be 720 guests, pretty simple math to figure out that there is plenty of lounge chairs. There are lots of umbrellas as well, but there are not as many umbrellas as there are pairs of chairs and that should be on the to-improve list. We do usually bring our laptop and I-Pad along and found the strength and speed to be fine for the WIFI service.

I guess I got a little long here again. In closing, we have always found SWH “to be a very classy resort without being stuffy”.

Room Tip: All rooms are oceanview, but for the best views consider the Dutch or Italian Villages.

We have been coming to Jamaica for 15 years. The first 13 were spent at Super Clubs Lido Braco. The main reason we kept returning there was the staff. Then 2 years ago it was closed and we didn't know where to go. Our travel agent suggested Sandals Whitehouse. We have now completed our second visit and are booked to return next year. The resort layout is fantastic with every room facing the ocean. The beach is immaculate as are the rooms. The dining choices leave the only difficult question to have each day: which restraurant tonight--Asian, Seafood, Italian, Caribbean, etc. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to go beyond the call of duty--and they don't expect any tips. If you want watersports, they are all there and evening entertainment in the cabaret is very good. There is music in the evening all over the restaurant and pool area: an opera singer in the garden, a guitarist outside the bake shop, a reggae band at the main bar area. We look forward to returning.

Room Tip: There are 3 villages--the French village is furthest from the restaurants, Dutch village is closer a...

We just traveled to this resort for our honeymoon and our first ever Sandals/All-Inclusive experience and we had such a wonderful time. Last year we read so many reviews and researched so many hotels and this one stood out to me from the beginning so we went for it. The staff was so mannered and took the time to remember who we were and got to know us. We loved the entertainment staff especially Prince. Our favorite place to eat was the Italian restuarant. At times service could be a tad slow. This resort is nice and private but so massive you dont feel it is jammed packed. We are a younger couple so at times it felt little quiet but then other times it felt lively as well. It was a good blend. Room was beautiful and we requested the Italian Village so it was close to the main pool and activites and restaurants. The bus ride is little lengthy to get to this resort and may need to take medicine if you get car sick easily but if your looking to see some pretty/interesting sites of Jamiaca along the way then the ride can be rather interesting. I enjoyed it. My husband and I would love to go back some day.

My wife and I decided to return to Sandals after previously visiting Sandals Ocho Rios. We originally booked Montego Bay and after only a few hours we decided to move resorts. We were fortunate to get into Whitehouse at the last minute so our vacation wasn't ruined with airplanes and a lack luster room. When we arrived at WH, we were warmly greeted and shown the grounds by the Manager on duty. Extremely friendly and out to please from the first moment we walked in. Every room in this resort has an ocean view and although their is a lot of walking from the rooms (especially if you are in the French building), in our opinion it was well worth the exercise. I was told the resort is 500 acres so just imagine the length since it is entirely ocean front. If you are looking for a more "lively" scene then I recommend the French buildings and if looking for more relaxed then try to the Dutch or Italian. You can enjoy any pool you like but as these other reviews mention, if you want a beach or pool chair, you better plan ahead. It gets difficult to find anywhere if you aren't out there by 9am or so. It did seem that some guests put stuff on the chairs the night before to reserve. The entertainment each night was very good and kept you entertained. The staff was absolutely wonderful. Paulette at the front desk, Odell at Neptune's, Anthony at the Martini Bar, and Nick at the Scuba Center absolutely went out of their way to ensure you are happy. The sunsets are absolutely amazing and the beaches are extremely clean and crystal clear water. The extras we participated in were; Catamaran cruise to Pelican Bar, Couples massage on the water, dinner on the beach, and scuba diving. Every experience was well worth the extra money as we were pampered. If you are looking for relaxation and seclusion, you absolutely can have it here. If you are looking to meet people and have some fun, you also can have it here. This resort allows you to determine what type of experience you want to have with all the different options. If looking for amazing people, relaxation, stunning views/property, entertainment, good food, then this is the place for you. It is well worth the drive thru the mountains to find this slice of paradise. We usually try some place different with each trip, but this is one that we are highly interested in returning to. I have seen reviews that the food is not very good, but we did not have that experience. After all if you don't like something, simply order something else! It's all inclusive so you get to splurge and enjoy a wide variety. Honestly I don't see how anyone can complain about this beautiful, well maintained, friendly staffed, great varieties, etc., in this resort. I hope this helps you make your decision because you can't go wrong with this Sandals.

Room Tip: The French buildings were more of the lively crowd during the day, Dutch was a very quiet pool, and...

First the good points, my wife and I stayed at Sandals Whitehouse in January and loved the resort. It is clean, well laid out and professionally managed. Although the hotel appeared to be full, it never seemed to be over-crowded, probably due to the three village layout.
The staff are fantastic and can’t do enough for you, always with a smile on their faces.
The beach has to be amongst the best in the Caribbean and is great credit to the team who keep it in pristine condition, whilst the sunsets have to be seen to be believed.
The restaurants are all a la carte service and the food is good quality, well presented.
The entertainment is better than we have seen in similar hotels, particularly Rory Frankson, the Jamaican tenor, who sang opera and classics to a very high standard and the steel band whose name I forget at this time.
The drinks are all top-shelf and well served, particularly by Copeland and Eric, in the Neptune bar (loved the bottle juggling).
The towel arrangement for the beach is really good in that you help yourself to as many as you need and leave them each evening for the staff to clean and replenish for the following day.
A big thank you to our maid Velma who ensured that our room was kept clean and left us delightful towel animals for when we returned.
Many thanks also to on-site nurses Alison and Rosemary, who regularly attended to the dressing on my wife’s leg, caused by an injury just prior to our holiday. You were great!

Now the downside, the hotel is 1.5 hours away from Montego Bay and the road is far from good. Other guests suffered from travel sickness going to and from the hotel.
There is a distinct shortage of Palapas (straw umbrellas) on the beach. We found that unless you managed to get to the beach before 6.00 am you had no chance of obtaining one. The guests on the top floor had theirs reserved by their butlers before any of us awoke, in fact another guest told us that they had seen beds reserved both on the beach and by the pool for the same room.
If Bacardi is your drink you won’t find it here. Appletons appears to have the island monopolised when it comes to rum and as much as it was suggested to us in each of the bars, their white rum was no substitute for Bacardi, my wife’s preferred drink.
If you have booked a suite or have butler service you will have alcoholic drinks supplied in your room. My wife and I had a supposed upgrade room (2320, third floor, Dutch village) and as we enjoy a couple of drinks in the evening on our balcony prior to dinner we expected to have alcohol supplied in our fridge. When we enquired as to why we had only been supplied with soft drinks we were told that only the suites/butler service rooms have alcohol provided but I could go to one of the bars and ask for a large glass of whatever I chose. When you pay a premium price to stay in a premium hotel the least you would expect would be beer/spirits in your room?
The rooms themselves are ‘tired’ looking and in need of refurbishment although the bed was particularly comfortable and the bedding excellent quality, as were the bathroom towels. The bathroom however, was small and the shower was an ‘over the bath’ one.
The food in the restaurants was a good standard, well served and presented but don’t expect man-sized portions. There is an element of nouvelle cuisine here which leaves you wanting more. It took us a few days to work out that we needed to ask for larger portions of the main courses to ensure that our appetites were satisfied, and we are not particularly ‘big eaters’.
If you want a steak in Eleanor’s restaurant beware, the chef here has no idea what a medium rare steak is. You will find that the steak will be medium-well in most cases regardless of how you request it to be done.
If you want to stay in touch with home and other things via the internet, Sandals will charge you $14.99 per day or $41.99 per week. We took out the $41.99 package but were unable to gain access most evenings as the message showed ‘internet unavailable due to too many people using it’. When we complained to the management we were told that they had received a number of complaints about the situation and refunded us the total amount paid by way of apology. Nevertheless, most hotels we have stayed at provide an area where internet access is free. Why not Sandals?

It might sound as though we did not enjoy our holiday and nothing could be further from the truth. We had a really good time, met some good friends with whom we will stay in touch, and would not deter anyone from going to Sandals. However, we have stayed at some excellent hotels in the Caribbean and feel that for the price paid for our holiday better value can be obtained at other resorts.

Room Tip: If you ask for a higher room, you will have a clearer view of the sunsets, which are spectacular.

TRIP ADVISER

Having just spent three weeks at sandals whitehouse December 23rd - January 13th
I can honestly say it is very hard to find something to moan about, but I would like to start this report with the negative, then move on to disagree with other guests negative's and last but not least tell of the great time we had and of the staff we feel are worth a special mention.
First moan is the shaded sun beds, most of these are reserved by butler's for their guest's who very rarely use but because they are reserved for butler guest(named labels on beds) they are left unused1
And the few that are left are reserved by six in the morning by early rising guests my advise if you want shade in the Dutch village be down before six or burn
The entertainment was hit and miss ,New Years eve was out of this world plently of food and entertainment for everyone.
Other evenings were a let down some very good singers, saxophonist etc but only entertaining for an hour or so, lots of noise in the very dark martini bar for the younger guests but could do with more entertainment out side

The only other complaint I have, a lot of guests will disagree with, and that is the service/people skills of the staff at Cafe de Paris, although I'm British I'm a coffee lover and enjoy most coffee, sometimes an espresso that was great, macchiato they didn't under stand, cappuccino that was un recognisable, iced cappuccino that was very good , but the one thing that was a constant was the slow unwelcoming service, the staff for some reason were miserable,I know we all have off days but this was constant.

Lots of guests remark about the sand flys and being bitten, and the first week I would have disagreed, but come the second week they took there revenge and I was covered in bites, only to go through the third week with very few,so it seems to come and go along with your luck

Now we come to the plus of staying at the whitehouse, every member of staff from Jason the gardener through to Caroline the Manager will make you feel welcome and do everything they possible can to make your holiday as perfect as you could want.
The food in all the Resturant's is very good and in most cases arrives hot and on time, there's enough verity to keep you going for three weeks but if you want something a little different then ask the chef and where possible they will do there best to accommodate.
Although the hotel was at 100 % occupancy the resort never seems crowded and there was always luxury seating available around the new fire pits, they are a great new feature to sandals
although the birds do tend to mess them up but you cant help nature.

As I said earlier all the staff (except cafe de Paris) are excellent but I would just like to thank the staff that went that extra mile to make our stay special
Our room was kept spotless by our cleaner Natasha, and the bar well stocked with the drinks we liked by Clinton, who on our last day made us feel very special ,decorating our room with towel art, flowers and champagne ,thank you
The staff in concierge were great but must give a big thank you to kadian, kristal and Ava for all the help they gave to us,I would also like to thank all the waiters at Eleanor's with extra thanks to Michael for making us feel so special, but also with thanks to Murphy and Seron for looking after us so well,Sherwin at jasmines was great, we left him to choose what we would eat and always had a great meal, and a big thank you to Sophie who looked after us at breakfast and then again at lunch in neptunes.we didn't spend much time at the pool bars but Dex and Delroy at the Dutch bar were great fun always ready with your drinks and a little banter,

A big shout out to the helicopter pilot who on our departure gave has a double trip around the resort so that we could bid a fond farewell

Again many thanks to you all

Just returned a few days ago from Sandals - Whitehouse. This was a rare trip for just my wife and I and one where we targeted rest and relaxation as the primary goal as opposed to our normal power touring. As far as getting what we wanted and needed in the rest and relaxation area it was perfect. The beach was wonderful, although we had to search everyday for chairs. It seems lots of people got up early, or at least earlier than us, just to go out and reserve their chairs and shady areas. It was irritating at times to see chairs reserved that went unoccupied for the day. The weather was wonderful, the water was great, and I truly enjoyed the down time. However, the food and service left a lot to be desired. We had a concierge room and other than having our fridge restocked a couple of times a day, I am not sure what we were paying for. The food was average at best. We were very disappointed in the quality and quantity of seafood available on an island. Of the seafood we had, only the mahi mahi would rate a good to very good. All other seafood, would be average to below average. Overcooked or not very fresh both come to mind. We did try every restaurant on site, and would probably have to rate the jerk chicken stand as the best food we had while there. The service at the restaurants was average at best, as well. I am not a big consumer of alcohol, and it was routine that I would have to request my soda or juice, three or four times before it would show, if it showed up before our meal was complete.

As far as the room goes, it was your average hotel room albeit with a view. I have a fundamental problem with paying over $650 a night for a room, that when I shower I have to stand in a bathtub. I thought this was supposed to be a luxury resort. I have a tub/shower at home.

Jamaica was great. Overall, the resort was fine. Will I return to Sandals, based on this experience, I will need to look at other options first and only consider this resort again if I have no other options.
