“An excellent base for exploring Golden Bay”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

If you want a excellent base for exploring Golden Bay, then this is it. It's not fancy, but it has a great location, clean rooms, rental bikes, a few campervan sites and a great laundry for sorting out all that messy adventure gear. Most importantly, the staff are wonderful. Alan and Ann could not have been more helpful and friendly - their advice and suggestions helped make our holiday truly memorable. The location is great, with views out over the estuary and on the main village street. Three good food options are 60 seconds walk away, and there is a small but interesting museum right across the road. Recommended.

Clean, comfortable and very nice owners.
Close to Wharariki Beach, Farewell spit and The Mussell Inn.
The owners, Anne & Alan could not have been more helpful and even picked us up from our New Years party at The Mussell Inn!! (Im not sure this is a commonly offered sevice mind you!)
The accommadation, whilst fairly basic, was impeccably clean and had all the ammenities (fridge, tv, hob, microwave, pans and utensiles) you need. Plus an on-site laundry, bicycle hire and internet service.
This is a great place to base yourself to explore the local area and Collingwood itself we found to be very friendly and nice.
We would definately stay here again.

Collingwood Park Motel was a good standard motel, with very friendly and helpful owners. Having looked at the motels available in Collingwood, this motel looks the best from the outside (we did not try the others), and was moderately priced. There are various B&Bs in the area which also might be worth investigating. The chalet we had (no 5) was part of a block of chalets, and had been recently redecorated etc, and had all the amenities one would expect. The shower room and toilet were adequate, but by no means luxurious. The walls of the chalet were not very sound proof, and so you could hear what was going on in the neighbouring chalets, which if their occupants were getting up earlier in the morning than we intended, meant that we were disturbed. The chalet had no view, which was a shame in such a beatiful place.

Clean, comfortable, close to everything, nice owners. Close to Wharariki Beach and Farewell spit. Make sure you take one of the walks to Wharariki Beach, absolutely beautiful. There are a couple of small museums worth looking into,. We only got to the one across the street. Our hosts were very helpful in giving us tips on what to see. There is a small eatery just down the street which seemed quite popular, and our meal with a glass of wine was very good and reasonable. There is a small liquor store attached. Wish we could of stayed longer.

Room Tip: We chose the 2 storey unit so we could each have our own bed and private area.

We recently had the pleasure of a night at Collinwood Motel, Not actually in the motel as we were in a camper van, but there are excellent facilities in the motel parking area, It was very clean and had a lovely view over the estuary. Collingwood itself is a charming place and very near Wharariki Beach and Farewell spit, would recommend this place.

My wife and I travelled to Golden Bay when we were back in NZ from the UK. I love photography and had always wanted to visit Farewell Spit. We chose Collingwood Park and could not have been happier. The owners (Ann and Alan I think) were so friendly and helpful. Ann even organised our spots on the trip to the Spit for us when I rang up to book our room.

We had a lovely room. It was very comfortable, had a great little kitchenette and was quite probably the cleanest room I've ever stayed in! The facilities are excellent and we even got some washing done.

Collingwood is a pretty quiet, sleepy sort of a town, but is perfect for access to the Spit and another beautiful spot called Wharariki Beach (sp?). I'd recommend it to anyone who loves photography, especially birds and nature.

Also, if you love boutique beer and interesting food then you can't miss the Mussell Inn, which is just up the road.

We visited in February and had a wonderful peaceful stay here. Our room was clean and well equipped and it was useful to have laundry facilties. Our hosts were very helpful and friendly.
We liked to village and the fantastic chocolate shop and it was very convenient for local exploration of this beautiful and remote area.
