“Extraordinary B & B in remote South Island New Zealand”
Reviewed January 10, 2012

Sally and Giff make this wonderful location an outstanding B & B to visit. After six days of touring the South Island we ended up here for our last 2 nights of travel. The best evening meals we had in NZ, and in our top 10 meals, were prepared by Sally. She carried each of 3 courses to our cabin. Great service, good conversation, wonderful food. Giff may be a man of few words, but Sally has the most wonderful stories. Don't miss the drive to the end of the road. Outstanding views and surprises around every curve. The hikes and history are marvelous. This is not a place for the timid, the road is a challenge and best of all, no cell phones, internet or TV for 2 days. And after a down pour all night, Giff took his chainsaw and shovel and led the way out in his 4WD. There were many mud slides and slips but we made it without the need for his digging. Like most Alaskans, we love NZ. This is a not-to-be-missed B & B.

We have just returned from 3 nights at Wetland View Park and had a lovely relaxed Christmas. The chalets have all the mod-cons, including a stereo with iPod dock if the silence and bird call gets too much for you. There is non cell reception (a plus in many ways!) unless you climb up to the lookout, and no tv to distract you from the surroundings and relaxation. Sally & Giff are lovely hosts and the experience was just what was required!
The local walks are all easy and rewarding in their own ways, though the stroll along the long empty beach looking at the amazing rock formations and soaking in the sunshine was probably my highlight.

Room Tip: There are two chalets available - one slightly larger than the other, but both as perfectly appointe...

We stayed as a treat for a night in the winter holidays, and ended up staying three nights. Sally and Giff are just the most perfect hosts, relaxed, laid back, helpful, informative, friendly and welcoming without being overbearing.
The 'cabin's are amazing, quiet, warm, well laid out, and the kitchens have all we needed for good cooking - although Sally could cook for you if preferred.
Having never explored this part of NZ before, we were taken in by the out of season quiet (it would be different in summer we're sure), heaps to do, or just chill out - which is what we mostly did.
Depending whether you're impressed by so called facilities or not will decide whether this is the best place to stay in NZ. We're more interested in the natural environment and getting into it on our hols, so was a perfect base to rest and recuperate.
If you want trouser presses (they could probably sort it out for you, they're that kind of couple) you're probably best to stay in big cities and chain hotels, which is great with us as it leaves gems like this to those who will appreciate it more!

Room Tip: There's two cabins, one's a little larger, but it doesn't really matter...

We celebrated a special wedding anniversary at the Wetland VIew Park. What an amazing find! We stayed for two nights in the large chalet (there are only two) and were blown away by the superb accommodation and service. Sally and Giff were delightful hosts who simply could not have done more for us. The chalet was spotlessly clean, very private and with a view to die for over wetlands to limestone crags. Everything was quite perfect and it was a magical stay.
We opted for the three-course dinners each night and these were out of this world. Sally appeared promptly at 7.00pm to serve us in our chalet. Sally is a really great cook and the meals were a real high point: great flavours, superb presentation and amazing value. There was no need to eat during the day as it was best to save our appetites for the wonderful, wholesome three course dinners. That these were created in a west coast wilderness area far from any town added to our admiration. The meals were all based around healthy, fresh produce from Sally and Giff's garden.
The Park is located amidst some of the most scenic and wild New Zealand landscapes. Sally and Giff are experts on the area's attractions and thoughtfully provided maps and loads of helpful guidance for our walks and other activities.
We will certainly be back to this magical place, to stay in these superb chalets, enjoy Sally's home cooking, Giff's bush and swamp tracks and the peace and quite. We cannot recommend Wetland View Park more highly. This is a special place to stay in a special part of New Zealand. It is so much more than excellent!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights (including our anniversary) in early November. We both can't stop talking about the palce and Sally and Giff the owners. It was magical!! We booked and paid via the i site in Takaka, again a wonderful facility. We decided to order our meals, which were brought to the cabin by Sally and were delicious. There are no shops and it takes a bit of driving to get there over an unsealed road, but it is safe and it makes it all the better for keeping it peaceful. We went on the walks recommended by Giff and did not see another person all day. It is an easy drive to the coast from the house , but you can't drive down the west coast from there, it's basically a dead end. Take your necessities with you - if you run out of basic food Sally can usually provide these at cost. she will do you a pack up for lunch and make breakfast if you wish.
Visit the Wetlands website it is as beautiful, if not more so ,in real life than the pics you see. the cabin was fantastic, snug and luxurious, no telly just an i pod dock for entertainment. the bird life is fabulous. Life doesn't get much better you will be sad to leave!!
