“Great hotel, great family”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

J&G is a family run hotel, one of a couple of the village owned by the same family who are a total delight from the patriarch down to the kids. My wife and I were made to feel very welcome, nothing was too much bother. The room was clean and comfortable, the internet worked (some places it's so sloooow). Breakfast was freshly prepared and it just kept coming - we had to tell them 'enough!'. We stayed at the end of January when the weather was mild and very pleasant. The views from the rooms and the patio deck are great - looking out over the bay from it's elevated position. There are plenty of very nice tavernas a short walk away, plus the usual grocers, atm, pharmacist. Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: Pay the few dollars extra to get a good view room on a higher level. The elevator works, the views f...

We've holidayed in Greece many times over recent years and were very pleased with both Tolo and the John & George Hotel.

Good points: amazing view; friendly and helpful staff (Viky in the bar was helpful and interesting to talk to); large outdoor pool-terrace area with sunloungers. We were there in the first week of July and never had a problem getting a sunlounger; free wifi that worked in all parts of the hotel with a good speed - you just need to ask reception for a username and password that works for 3 days; free car-parking; good bar prices €3.60 for two draught beers; very clean and tidy hotel.

I asked for a high-floor room with sea-view and would recommend anyone to stay in the room we were allocated (402). Like most Greek hotels we had two single beds pushed together rather than a double bed which is fine for a few nights.

Slight down sides: while the buffet breakfast had good mix of items including fresh tomatoes, cucumber, cheese, yogurt, cereals, breads etc it was disappointing that the fresh items were not covered. This meant that often flies would be found on the food - not appetising. However it was nice to sit having breakfast on the terrace in the sun.

Another slight downside is that the swimming pool is not in the sun from about 3.30pm although the remainder of the terrace area does stay in the sun until about 6.30ish.

Location: very good, above the 'old' part of Tolo and therefore very well located for wandering down into the town for dinner. It is next door to the King Minos Hotel so if you are looking at that hotel as well you can make a direct comparison. However it's a steep walk up from the shore and so not recommended if you have mobility issues, although the hotel itself has a lift to all floors.

Things to do: we hired a car for the week we were there and drove to Kalathona Beach most days which is about 20-25mins away. Otherwise the beach at Tolo is not very good for sunbathing. I would also definitely recommend hiring a boat to see some of the coast. We hired one for about €50 for 3 hours and it was great fun to drop the anchor and dive into the blue sea.

Restaurants etc: the hotel is about 5 minute walk to about 6-7 tavernas that sit along the narrow beach right by the water's edge. It was lovely to stroll down into the town and have dinner next to the water. Also the weather was very hot when we were there in early July (ie 38 degrees Celsius) so being next to the coast brought welcome sea-breezes.

Room Tip: Sea view and high floor, however even those on the first floor have a good view.

We stayed two nights in this hotel in early June. We very much enjoyed everything about our stay. The hotel itself is a large multi-story structure that rises from the hillside about 2 blocks from the beach. Our 3rd story room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. WiFi was free and worked well in our room. The view from our balcony, as well as from the pool/bar deck of the hotel, was breathtakingly panoramic. Eating a good breakfast on the sunny deck was an invigorating way to start the day. Although this is a large hotel, it is family operated. John and George (the brothers), George’s wife, and the men’s parents were always warm and welcoming, and they provided excellent service and friendly advice on distances, route selection, activities, and Tolo restaurants. When we checked out, the brothers’ mother brought us a large bag of oranges from their trees, and we ate those oranges through the rest of our driving trip.

Tolo itself is a relaxing and attractive little beach town with many shops and restaurants. Regarding the latter, we favored the ones that featured tables right on the sand with the water lapping a few feet away. 10-15 minutes south of Nafplio, the town proved to be an excellent base for visits to the historical attractions, such as Mycenae and Lapidauros.

The hotels location is ok,all rooms have sea view....
We paid 85 euros for a double room including breakfast but it wasn't worth it.
Here's why.
Pros---Sea view/pool view
Close to the shopping center and beach
The staff were friendly and helpful
a/c in the room was working
free parking

Cons- The room was semi renovated.(public areas like the corridors(carpet not clean) and elevator(the door and buttons were had fingerprints and various oily stains)
The walls were durty, the furniture was old and had dust in the corners.
The room and especially the bathroom, wasn't spottless clean.
Be booked for a double bed and found two single beds pushed together,it was impossible to sleep in the middle of the bed.

The bathroom was renovated but wasn't clean. The toilet seat had hair and brown stains on it,we had to ask for the cleaning lady to come and clean it.
The bathroom light wasn't bright enough,it was too dark to even see your face in the mirror,we told the front desk to replace the lamp in the bathroom for a brighter one,and they did.
The breakfast was very rich, but wasn't fresh.Their pastries(croissants) were solid like bricks.

For 85 euros we expected more.Overall it was a nice stay but we are not going back to this hotel. They have to improve their quality and give attention to these details.

Don't let the "short" walk up the hill deter you from staying at the John and George hotel. The staff were very professional and approachable. The view is superb and the prices reasonable (in May.) I am a sucker for a larger than usual balcony and it was only here that we had this luxury.

Room Tip: Travel in the off season is a good $ plan

Nice and friendly family run hotel overlooking the bay of Tolo. Made very welcome by the owner and all the staff, right from the welcoming drinks on arrival until our departure.
We had a large and comfortable room on the top floor with fantastic views.
Iannis and his family were always happy to help, inviting us to the Easter Sunday celebrations and letting us know about the local events and attractions.
Would absolutely recommend this hotel and Tolo for anyone wanting a relaxing stay in a wonderful part of the Peloponnese.

Room Tip: Choose the top floor suite with stunning views
