Stayed here for two nights with my wife. The hotel is about 5 miles outside Keswick.

On our arrival we we given a tour of hotel. There is really nice conservatory where you can enjoy a drink with nice views and reading material in comfortable surroundings. The owners are friendly as is Anthony, who appears to work every breakfast and dinner shift.

Our room was the only slightly disappointing element, although we were expecting it this from other reviews we have read. It was quite small, but still comfy. The decor in our room could also do with updating.

Breakfast was great with ample choice and lots of it. Three different sizes of English breakfast, kippers, egg benedict, pancakes or smoked salmon. Also flexible service times from 0830-1000.

We had a car free day and got the bus from the stop right outside the hotel. The stop is served by the 554 or X4. Latest you can return from Keswick is 2055. We bought an Explorer ticket for £10 which includes unlimited bus travel in Cumbria.

A few days away for gentle walks, rest and relaxation, we were perfectly comfortable here. Huge bed, fluffy duvets, clean and tidy, nice views. A breakfast worth waking up for, far too much to choose from, cooked as ordered with freshly made bread. Evening meals were beautifully presented and after 3 courses we were pleasanty full. Guests sit in the conservatory or bar and chat the evening away.
The only fault is that it is about 4 miles outside Keswick so a car is needed if you want to eat 'in town', but if you are muddy and tired having been out all day there are plenty of pubs and restaurants to chose from if you do not fancy eating in. Would recommend it to those who want to explore the area.

Room Tip: Room 7, huge comfy bed!

We stayed here for 3 nights last month. We were 2 couples. It's a lovely location, looking out over the fells in one direction and with Ulloch Pike behind. We went on a beautiful walk down to Ravenstone Lake and delightful little St Bega's church. The countryside is beautiful, drystone walls along green fields with cattle, horses, sheep, we even saw a hare. We went driving around the lake district, such a lovely area. The staff were really friendly, food was delicious, Mike's selection of whiskeys is quite impressive. Loved our stay here.

On arrival we had a very nice welcome and shown to our room. The room unfortunately was not the best as it was very small and at the back of the house so only had a side view and the shower room was also very small. All this said that was only downside as the location could not have been better. We have stayed in Grassmere and Windemere before but did prefer this area as it was much quieter and had some lovely walks in the area. Across from Dodds Wood and just above the lake of Bassenthwaite.
We stayed in the lodge for breakfast and evening meal which we could not fault. The staff were on the ball and made you feel very welcome. Anthony and Claire who were mainly at front of house did a great job and the chef certainly knew his job. On an evening we sat in the conservatory and passed the evening chatting with other guests who were all lovely.
We would certainly stay again although would request a different room with perhaps a liitle more space.

Room Tip: request one at front of building

Marvelous views from front hotel rooms
Excellent meals (Breakfasts and dinner) cooked by the chef
Super-friendly, highly supportive staff
In the heart of Keswick area but far from the town's rush
Walk-by paths to a nearby lake, mountain and several meadows / grass-plains
Perfectly quite place during all day hours.

No Air-condition which may become an issue in hot / humid nights, but there is no A/C in other Guest-House of similar level and above in this area, as we learned.
Mosquitoes issue during night time which turned into an issue with no air-condition.
Relatively small rooms (the majority of them)
Small shower

We thought we had booked the hotel across the road so were a little disappointed at first.
This quickly changed after walking into the hotel and getting a frendly helpful welcome and seeing the lovely view from the patio area.
This place has a very interesting bar area which was the stables in the past. All horse mess and straw now gone.
The room was clean and smart looking (had an open fire but you cant use it ofcourse) and the dinner was outsatnding.
Apart from the bar area it has a very nice conservatory to have your drinks in before going through to the dining room. The meal was just fantastic and a discount of 10% is available at the moment. The chef came out towards the end of the meal to wander around and receive compliments on his cooking which he most certanly deserved.breakfast was also outstanding quality.
the hotel I thought we had booked may be good but I not find out for myself as will always come back here when wanting to stay near Keswick.

Room Tip: Room 6 has a secret entance to the bar!

Unbeatable location. Close to the lakes, close to Keswick and Carlisle. They have LOADS of information about different walking routes etc

Everywhere was very very nicely furnished, and very clean.

The room was lovely and well stocked with tea/coffee and biscuits. The breakfast choice and portion size was great.
