“Excellent meal”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

I recently visited the Ravenstone Manor with my son. Kim and Cherin are excellent hosts. We ate in the restaurant where I had the best herdwick lamb in a long time. Our other main was the guinea fowl. The food could not be faulted. We shall be back. You definitely do not need to have a dietary requirement to eat there.

We have stayed in the Lake District a few times, but this has to be our most pleasant stay. Ravenstone Manor is set in a country location, but only a few miles from Keswick. The hotel is a charming period country house, with a bar, restaurant, comfortable lounge and games room. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, the boss ladies Kim and Cherin run a great place, and both get involved in making their guest's experience the most enjoyable.
We had dinner in the restaurant on our first night, one word "outstanding"! We could not fault the food which was delicious, the service was excellent, and we both retired to the bar feeling very satisfied customers.
What a wonderful experience.
Could I fault anything? Well I am a light sleeper, so the dawn chorus does my head in, but it does so at home, so that won't really be an excuse.
The bathroom in our room was a bit compact, but still it worked for us.
No really can't complain much at all.
So on that basis we would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We came across this place on a walk and took a chance after a miserable previous night's accommodation. Room was very comfortable. Evening meal set the place apart from others. Great selection, outstanding quality on all courses. Stayed with family (children aged 9 and 7). Games room was brilliant, full size snooker table and pool table together with hundreds of board games. No extra charge for children. A fantastic stay.

This was our second visit to Ravenstone Manor and our experience was as good, if not better, than our first time. Kim and Cherin are wonderful hosts and the whole team are so friendly and helpful. On top of this, there's a fabulous selection of meals which are delicious. Will we be back? Actually yes, we're back for another weekend in May!

If you want a great weekend away to mark something special in your life, try Ravenstone Manor. From the moment of our arrival to the end of our stay we were made to feel comfortable and truly welcome.

I had arranged a 50th Birthday getaway for my partner and I - the room was decorated for us, champagne was installed and this was the precursor to a super weekend with friends who had arrived before us. The weather was perfect, but if it had swilled it down, this could not have detracted from the lovely situation just above Bassenthwaite.

The rooms are extremely comfortable and well thought out. Ours had an ensuite shower and a great view from the window.

The staff were helpful, accommodating, but not over zealous in their " Is everything allright?" In fact they have got it just right, especially understanding my dietary requirement of a large espresso at breakfast.

We had dinner each evening and the lovely way of getting your order in the bar with canapes is to be applauded, because when your meal is ready you are shown into the restaurant and your meal then arrives promptly. Loved the pigeon breast, loved the steaks and the breakfast is cooked to order too. I can strongly recommend the kippers with poached egg.

Most of all it is the owners' attention to detail which adds to the whole experience: Lakeland slate key fobs and table numbers, Easter baskets with homemade cakes and mallow chicks and rabbits, the theme of love, live and laugh which runs throughout the hotel, and, of course, remembering their guests' names. Thoroughly recommended!

It is a special place to stay and enjoy the pleasure of being really well looked after.

Thank you all at the Ravenstone Manor.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Bassenthwaite have such a beautiful view.
