“Peaceful, Quiet spot”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

One of the less frequented and quieter northern lakes with many beautiful walks and sheltered lanes to visit. A very special spot far off the tourist trail.

Lots to see and do around the lake and dodds Wood. Take your Camera to ensure you capture your own private moment... Whatever the weather, whatever the season... It is magical.

“My favourite lake in The Lakes”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

Bassenthwaite is a picturesque and tranquil lake, a short drive away from Keswick.

The lake itself is very quiet and can be sailed or fished on. There are a number of camping sites and a boat club, amongst other things, found around the fringes. Nearby there are also a number of hotels, pubs and other attractions, in the surrounding villages.

The water is clean and makes for a nice swim and most of the time, the majority of the lake is empty and allows for kayaking, canoeing, sailing and more in peace and quiet.

On a side note - as far as I'm aware, it's the only large body of water in the Lake District which is classed as a lake rather than a mere or water.

“Good to cycle”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

18 miles all around the lake. Good to cycle not to hilly.
Views are great, always see a bird of prey along the way.

“Beautiful!”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

What a beautiful, picturesque place. I sat on the edge of the shore for a long time, soaking up the sunshine and the scenery. The great big mountain (which we have climbed) Blencathra dominates the lake, and it is just a wonderful, idyllic spot. Great for relaxing and for budding amateur photographers like myself. Visit it! Oh, and it's also the only true 'lake' in the Lake District!
