We went to the Pheasant for a light meal in the bistro, what a disaster. We ordered the pork scratchings for nibbles as we didn't want a starter as such, they were duly brought but we sent them back as they were inedible. One of us ordered fish and chips with the option of mushy or garden peas, mushy peas were ordered, they came and they were garden peas blitzed, the other meal chosen was potted shrimps off the starter menu and a portion of chips, this was okay, only one pudding was ordered, our bill came and it was very highly overpriced. When we broke it down we had only had one drink as one of us had had tap water, it worked out at £4.75 for pint of lager the pork scratchings would have been £7, but these were deducted from the bill, fish and chips £13.50, potted shrimps £9.50, portion of chips £3.50 and a chocolate delice £6.75 giving a grand total of £38.
It does not come anywhere near other establishments in this area, very mediocre food, poor service and very overpriced.
We like to dine in nice restaurants and don't mind paying but we do not like being robbed, Dick Turpin comes to mind.
We will certainly not be going back and this is one to avoid if you don't want fleecing.

The Pheasant sets the standard for atmosphere. The small bar is pretty much perfect (John Peel rode here to get his pints) and the various public and residents' lounges are relaxing and inviting.
The garden is interesting, well kept and a must for lunch if the weather allows.
Our bedroom was characterful (old beams, low windows) and spacious with a comfortable bed and powerful shower.
Breakfast and evening meal were good - though the wine is probably a bit overpriced.
Staff were friendly and a Late Rooms deal ensured overall price was reasonable.
Situated alone on the edge of the Lakes is just fine ( a few miles from Cockermouth on the way to Keswick) as long as you have your own transport.

We were advised by friends to stop at the Pheasant Inn during our drive from Scotland to Cornwall and this proved to be excellent advice. We made our booking fairly late but were given a beautifully appointed, upgraded room at a reasonable price.

The hotel is well situated, lovely walks and Lake Bassenthwaite very nearby. The hotel is clean, comfortable and very charming. The food was astoundingly good - great choice, beautifully prepared. Staff were friendly and efficient, checking in and out was a breeze.

I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys some of the finer things in life.

We stayed for 2 nights at the end of May and if you are looking for a quiet relaxing weekend I would highly recommend the Pheasant Inn.
We ate at the bistro the first night and although expensive the steak was one of the best we've eaten in a long time so it was value for money. The bar is full of character although I wouldn't say the beer is the best kept. We went to the Horse and Farrier at Threlkeld the next night and the beer was far superior.
We booked a classic room and where lucky enough to get upgraded to a superior which was massive with a real comfy bed.
The breakfast is good although not exceptional.
The staff were friendly/relaxed but not over friendly which is the way we like it.
Location wise it's out of the way so you would need to drive to any quality walks which we did with no problems. Keswick is only 10 mins away.
We had 2 days of great weather but the Pheasant Inn was totally relaxing and provided everything we needed for a perfect weekend away from the kids.

Room Tip: Superior was at the far end away from the Bistro and bar although over a private function room. Ther...

We went there for a birthday celebration and even though it was through a deal in which we made good savings it was well overpriced.
The night before my birthday I was violently ill with S & D symptoms and was confined to bed the whole day.
My partner informed the hotel management to warn staff not to come to the room in case it was contagious and was incredulous when she was told that several staff had already "gone down with it"!!!

Setting of the hotel was lovely as was the nearby Spa which guests have the use of.

Food and accommodation were OK but no more than that and definitely not worth the prices this hotel are charging.

Would not go back!

Well this was our second visit to the Pheasant Inn, and it really didn't disappoint.

The service and staff were excellent, and we felt really at home. I can't recommend this place highly enough.. As soon as we get the chance, we'll be back for a third time! Only hope it's soon!

I have been into the bar on previous occasions and wanted to stay as it looked like a lovely place. We were pleased to find out that dogs were welcomed in the garden rooms, so booked a one night stay. There are two rooms in the garden building which is set apart from the main building. The room itself was very nice, with a full sized bath and great powerful shower, nice big bed, seating area, complimentary tea and a carafe with fresh coffee available, TV and radio. I do long to find real "dog friendly" accommodation, though, where there is direct access to a garden area from the room so that there is no danger of disturbing anybody else when your dogs need to go out early in the morning. The bar did not serve meals in the evening, but the receptionist was very helpful in booking us a table in the brasserie next to a window, and reserving the car parking space near to it so we could keep an eye on the dogs in the car. Unfortunately we found the food in the brasserie uninspiring and overpriced. It was very busy, but we felt that 40 minutes to wait for our starters was too long, particularly as they were both cold starters. Also, my main meal was undercooked and unappetising but when the restaurant manager saw that I hadn't eaten it she did ask why and then took the charge off the bill. In contrast, breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice and very well cooked. So, to summarise lovely place, very friendly and efficient staff, lovely lounges, nice room but in my opinion very overpriced.

Room Tip: The Orthwaite room was the best of the dog friendly rooms.
