“Perfect for lunch, dinner or a weekend getaway”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

We dined here for the 4th time on Sat 29 Dec after discovering this little gem of a place in 2011, and thought it was about time I left a review.

It is a little off the usual "tourist trail" (it's a 5-10min drive out of Keswick) which makes it even more special as it isn't over-run with them.

We've never stayed here (would love to but the in-laws live closeby so cannot ever foresee having the need to) so can't comment on the accommodation but the food and setting is amazing.

You can dine in several locations - the brasserie, bar, lounge, garden (if the weather is fine) and we've now tried all of them! In summer the garden is lovely and tranquil, but in winter we would choose the bar (but it tends to fill up quickly) or the lounge (with its open log fires).

The food (both taste and presentation) is excellent and portion sizes are more than adequate, you certainly won't leave here hungry.

The service has been great on every occasion.

This is a gem of a hotel, and I'm sure we'll be back time and time again.

We travelled to Scotland, December 2012, and on our way stayed the night at the Pheasant Inn. I made the booking through Secret Escapes which included and evening meal in the Brasserie and breakfast. It was the first time I had used Secret Escapes so I didn't know what to expect but I did think that when using these sites it was usual to expect perhaps not the best rooms but the rooms the hotels find it difficult to fill on their own. How wrong I was. Upon check-in we were given a guided tour of the Inn highlighting it's many cosy lounges and dining rooms and personally shown to our room. We were given a wonderful room, facing the hills at the back of the Inn. There was a bottle of bubbly on ice to greet us. The staff were both welcoming and friendly. The evening meal in the Brasserie was excellent both in terms of quality and service. The breakfast was equally good and at all times the staff were extremely accommodating and made us feel comfortable and welcome.

In conclusion, I cannot recommend the Pheasant Inn highly enough. We had a fantastic deal on room and dinner and I can't wait to go back!

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: We stayed in room "Honister". King Size bed and quiet, rear facing room. Huge bathroom wit...

This hotel offers everything you expect from a lakeland stay, comfortable and welcoming with log fires, restaurant and relaxing sofas.
Its a fairly secluded location but near enough to the main route and within easy reach of Keswick. There are walks galore directly from the hotel door.
The rooms are clean, comfortable and have a well stocked hospitality tray which includes fresh milk and home baked biscuits. The breakfast was outstanding. Crisp white table linen, fresh squeezed orange juice, good choices of buffet and cooked options all well prepared and presented.
We tried the Bistro and the Restaurant and on balance preferred the Bistro which is less formal and more relaxed. The restaurant had a slightly stuffy feel. The food was excellent but the room design didn't lend itself to creating the right ambience.
The lounge areas are lovely to relax in and there's a well stocked traditional bar which serves a good range of real ales. Its worth just visiting the bar.
The staff are helpful, friendly and hard working and go out of their way to make your stay pleasant.
If you like the spa experience you can use the facilities at another nearby hotel which is definitely worth the 5 minute drive.
There wasn't much of a down side - some parts of the hotel decor are becoming dated but its well maintained and doesn't detract at all from the overall experience.
We will definitely go back.

We have stayed here several times over the years. The restaurant has been changed to a bistro which is much much nicer, less stuffy, more relaxed and a good choice on the menu, though a smile from the waitress would have helped. There is a more formal restaurant too, which is where breakfast is served........really good cooked breakfast. We stayed in one of the garden rooms. A 2 room annex and they allow dogs. Ideal as its separate to the main building. The room was large with sofa and good sized bathroom,. It was very cold that weekend but the heating was good, and walks straight from your room. The rooms in the main part are a little smaller, and don't allow pets. Dogs allowed in one of the bars.

Room Tip: Garden room if you have a dog, otherwise main hotel.

Did another overnighter here whilst on a work trip. Opted for Bistro, Bed and Breakfast.

It's a gem of a country hotel. With first class food, especially breakfast! A lovely bar. Great staff. Cosy rooms. Bags of character.

You really can't go wrong.

Nice room and excellent shower. We slept really well and enjoyed a nice breakfast. Dinner in the bistro was nice. The sitting rooms had a lot of armchairs but a few more upright chairs as an option would have been appreciated by this back. Service in the bar was a bit ad hoc and barrel of beer had gone off.

My Wife and I had the pleasure of outstanding food courtesy and accommodation whilst staying for 5 nights at The Pheasant. Room was very comfortable and the food great. The front staff being predominately youg ladies were outstanding . Very courtieous and helpful. The pre dinner drink and nibbs were ace.

Room Tip: We found all rooms very good although some are as advertised not within the main building
