“Lovely recommendation”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

This hotel was recommended to us and we certainly would not have found it on our own as it is off the main road. It certainly was a pleasant experience. A very old world hotel full of old world charm, decor, service, and manners. Beautiful gardens in the grounds in different small sections to explore. Excellent food and we did not even extend ourselves to the fine dining restaurant. Modernised rooms and bathrooms with all the modern conveniences. Very enjoyable in a beautiful part of England. The only negative is having to carry heavy suitcases up the staircase as there is no lift.

We had a lovely evening after a confusing start. When we arrived there appeared to be no booking for us! and tried initially to put us in the bistro. We were non too pleased when we had come for a special occasion but eventually we were told we could eat in the restaurant and everything went smoothly from then on.
The meal was wonderful and the service excellent. The surroundings are very comfortable. All in all a lovely evening and would recommend it to anyone wanting something special but check that they have you booked into the restaurant and not the bistro.

We spent two nights at this inn. It was a simply lovely experience. Fantastic service and such an English experience! The furnishings, the food, the views, the rooms. Rooms are named after the lakes too. All lovely.
Our bedroom faced the front of the hotel. The room was not huge but lovely and clean. Peaceful and dark at night. Wonderful soft pillows and duvet and plenty of extra bedding if you needed it (we didn't). There was a tray of teas and coffees with a little flask of fresh milk and a tin of homemade shortbread biscuits.
The bathroom had good toiletries, was warm and spacious. The whole hotel smelt lovely - flowers and polish :-)
I would totally recommend this hotel for people from other countries as the Englishness really shone through for me. A delightful stay - thank you

myself and husband came here for a couple nights between 9th-11th september before my husband deploys to afghan. This was very country/home feel, relaxing and lovely scenerys. The food was beautiful, who ever complains dont know the meaning of the word fine dining!
The local ales/cider was lovely too.
The only thing that freaked me out was on an evening they would switch you lamps and radio on. My husband liked it but not me.
We did find that we were the only young ones there, the rest were 50's+ (We are late twentys/early thirtys)
There isnt much you can do apart from sit and relax, have a drink or walk around.
We didnt bring much walking gear with us, so we went to keswick for the day which was lovely. We also tried the complementary spa, which is a must! it was absolutely beautiful and relaxing.
i would certainly come back again, more for eating than staying as i do think it wasnt for my age group. But i have certainly recommended this to my family and friends! xx

Room Tip: we stayed at the johnby, which was very big for a standard!

We spent a very comfortable two nights at The Pheasant. The hotel is decorated in a traditional style. Our room was a standard Double. It was very spacious indeed. With radio and telivision.Tea and coffee making facilities. The bath room was spacious with a bath. The bed was very comfortable and extremely large. We ate in the bistro for dinner and the menu was very good but a little priceyAlthough the first night the food was Plentyful and delicious .On the second evening it was not quite so good and it transpired that they had a different chef that evening. For breakfast we ate in the dining room and the breakfasts were superb with plenty of choice. No problems there.Would I go again ? Oh yes!Next time I think we would eat in the restaurant though. But the choice was removed for us due to no bookings on the Monday night so we were told they were not opening it to guests. This place is a little away from it all.So you are a captive audience unless you are prepared to drive.Very peaceful though and wonderful for a romantic break.

Room Tip: There is no lift.If you can,t climb stairs request a downstairs room or the separate cottage in the...

Having already booked a night at the Pheasant Inn through Secret Escapes I was quite excited to read the favourable review in the Daily Telegraph. We received a pleasant reception on arrival and the room was well appointed. The evening meal however was disappointingly average - The place was packed the service was slow and the fishcakes in particular were rather like cardboard. We had paid in advance for the meal and morning breakfast but my wife wasn't well and she had to forgo both meals. I did order a room service breakfast for my wife for which I had to pay extra. While I appreciate that there is a service charge for room service, as I had already paid for a meal that was not taken I did not think this act aided customer relations! I don't think we will be returning.

Went to the Pheasant Inn for a 2 night break and it was really lovely. The staff could'nt have been more helpful; they were friendly and the service was excellent. Started our first day off with a fantastic breakfast great Eggs Benedict not something I would prepare at home so a real treat.
The meal in the Fell Resaurant was stunning, the chef knows his stuff..the meat was excellent and we should know as hubby's a butcher! The Bistro is good too but less formal. The rooms are comfy cosy ie not the biggest but spotlessly clean.
It took a little while to adjust to the peace and quiet as the hotel is off the beaten track... once we did we didn' want to leave.
