Have stayed here a few times now. It is always lovely with very attentive staff and beautiful surroundings. Pricey, but you get what you pay for. Spa is fantastic, just a shame they had changed the age limit on the outdoor hot tub to 16 - my 13 year old had been really looking forward to it. Worth visiting the wildlife park next door too - big reduction in price for residents.

Very expensive hotel that is not worth the price and very shoddy. Paid £400 for dinner ,bed and breakfast. Arrived and despite large grounds, the small car park was full and long way away and had to drag luggage in. Place needs a re decorating. Room had old furniture with doors not shutting, and poor shower. The room was not cleaned properly and had a lot of dust below tv, bed etc. Our bath was not cleaned for 3 days as the toiletries were still exactly as we left the. The tv had a few channels and the Bose radio had the antenna wrapped around the dressing mirror. it did not pick up any radio stations. No air con in rooms and got very hot at night. At £400/night would have expected more comfortable rooms.
The spa was modern and nice.
Dinner was excellent with a vegetarian menu , but next night was offered the same menu with 3 choices despite everybody else getting a different menu. we were told the menu would be the same.
Basic breakfast but on 2nd morning found 2 hairs in our cereal mixture.
Avoid like the plague

I booked a table for lunch. Was informed that if we arrive before 1.45 we could have the restaurant menu. On arrival, the very polite and professional front of house staff informed us our table for afternoon tea was ready. I explained that we were here for the lunch menu that we had booked over the phone and that it was only 1.30. By this point the VIPs that I had brought had become dismayed. I went to speak with the duty manager and explained that my guest was keen to have the restaurant menu. She went to ask the Chef once more but informed me that the chef had decided he didn't want to serve us because he wanted to finish. The poor staff were quite clearly mortified as they were all professional. I believe that the Gordon Ramsay autocratic approach is not acceptable in the real world and the Chef has let his team down.
We were ultimately served a lesser menu and I was informed that the food was cooked by an agency Chef as the Head Chef had gone. Looking at the fact that they require an agency chef in the first place along with the poor treatment we received, to me it seems that the poor staff have to appease both their guests and their Chef. What a shame.

We have just got back from a spa break at Armathwaite, it was a treat for my 60th birthday. We have stayed in other hotels for celebrations before and they have put a bottle of wine or a small box of chocolates in the room, or even an upgrade if your lucky. But on this occasion we got none of these. Apart from that the food and service was very good.

Room Tip: Try not to get a ground floor room, I was woken up by the family above at 7am. It must have been kid...

We had a weekend break at the Armathwaite in one of the executive rooms. Room was compact but had a little terrace (very welcome given the temperatures). Spa (especially the outdoor hot tub) very relaxing. The Lake View restaurant lived up to its name. All of the food, breakfasts and dinners was freshly prepared and delicious. Service thoughout the hotel was just what you want - attentive but not intrusive. A most enjoyable break

We were given a voucher for Armathwaite Hall and chose to go for tea on the terrace. What to say? Service was outstanding, cakes, scones lovely sandwiches. Home made cheese cake in a glass and some very nice Spanish sweet wine. We did not use the doggy bag option but did walk in the grounds on a wonderful summers afternoon.
