“Team bonding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013

Well we wanted a place to go with team bonding activities , a new team of ten men, well we were not disappointed, what a place, on arrival I had a very warm welcome from the staff , if you could give ten stars then this is the place to be, we went shooting on the first day with a nice chap called Brian, he made you feel relaxed and showed us the safety with the guns and we then had our shooting competition, very good fun, second day we went on the Quads with Mat again safety lesson and then around the fields for training, then the WOW factor when he took us around the tracks for Quads, all the lads were buzzing after, in the hotel we had great rooms with first class service and even had our own menu card, that was a nice touch, when on a walkabout ,we stopped in a bar and a young lady ( sunshine ) was very nice to talk to us all about the hall,
We did not use the spa but it looked very nice, last but not least a hotel starts in the reception
Area and with a great welcome it all went very well,

Room Tip: My room was 140 , facing the lake, WOW, best room I have ever stayed in, the shower room had a TV ab...

We have just enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea in fantastic surroundings. It was a treat for my husband and I am pleased he enjoyed it. Staff very friendly although hard to catch attention of, as it was very busy for them. All sarnies, scones cakes biscuits etc were lovely and fresh. We had a window seat looking out towards the lake, so relaxing. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars was the price which was a little steep. We will return but will have to be a special occassion.

We stayed for a weekend break, on a package including dinner both nights (once in the Brasserie, once in the Lakeview restaurant). A thoroughly enjoyable experience. The hotel manages to combine grandeur with a homely and relaxing atmosphere. We were delighted with our room (122) - its not the most expensive, or the largest, but it has a lovely little balcony with side views down to the lake. All beautifully refurbished, with an excellent bathroom.

The spa is outstanding - beautifully clean. The food was excellent, and we enjoyed eating in both restaurants. The log fires were very welcoming on a snowy weekend, and the grounds were lovely to walk in.

We also visited the Wildlife Park (next door and owned by the same group I think?). It was 10 mins walk across the fields, and was surprisingly good!

The only slight gripe we had was that on the Saturday afternoon, when we wanted to have a pot of tea in the beautiful lounge overlooking the lake, we couldn't because all the seats had been reserved for non-residents taking full afternoon tea! That seems a bit tough on those paying lots of money as residents.
Other than that - fabulous - and would definitely return.

Had an absolutely amazing weekend at Armathwaite Hall Hotel. Upon arrival we were greeted by Kim, their lovely receptionist who was really helpful, friendly and always had a smile on her face. Our room was traditionally decorated, in keeping with the rest of the hotel, however, it was fully equipped with everything you'd hope to find in a four star hotel. We ate in the Lake View Restaurant on our first night, the food was good and the staff were friendly and efficient, however, the atmosphere was a little stiff. Maybe some discreet background music and a little more chirpiness from the waiters would have helped. We preferred the hotel's Brasserie, where we ate the second night, the food was tasty and well presented and the atmosphere was a lot more relaxed and comfortable. I'd highly recommend that you book to go clay pigeon shooting while you're there. Our instructor, Brian was accurately described by Kim as 'as Cumbrian as they come' While he drove us up to the range in his clunky old Land Rover, he entertained us all the way with his stories of the Second World War. We had great fun playing the 5 games Brian had lined up, although we were totally rubbish to start with but we improved to not quite as rubbish under Brian's patient and professional instruction. The spa was also brilliant, as were the treatments we had. Left feeling totally pampered and relaxed. Lovely experience and would definitely go back.

Armathwaite Hall is a hotel based in the Lake District on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, a beautiful spot that looks great upon arrival, a commanding stately house with great grounds.

We stayed for two nights on the 'indulgence spa break' package which includes a club room, meals in the Lake View Restaurant a some spa treatments.

The hotel does a lot of things really well, including;

- Spa treatments and environment, they are excellent and the staff are wonderful, warm and welcoming. The spa area is beautiful and well maintained
- Gym (personal training etc), great facilites with good advice and attentive, well trained staff
- Food (Lake View Restaurant), excellent, locally sourced, well cooked and presented meals

The hotel could also improve the following;

- Lunches and drinks, a little unimaginative food, with drinks menu's offering a limited choice of cocktails etc
- Breakfast, one day we had a hot/cold buffet with no a la carte selection, the other day we had a cold buffet with an a la carte selection hot choice (we assumed the hotel was busier the first day, so they chose to provide buffet for everything). Also, the a la carte hot breakfast included a supplement for some dishes, which on the daily rate we were paying was a disappointment. (On the positive side the hotel had excellent locally made muesli and jams)
- The lounges (which are lovely place to sit) were cold when we visited, the staff let the fire go out a couple of times in the main lounge (and even joked between themselves that they shouldn't). The fires in the other rooms remained unlit while we were there.
- The nightly turndown service was a mixed bag of refreshed waters/biscuits/towel tidy (which was fine) and an unusual bed 'tidy' (it looked neater before the turndown! We thought they may have left half way through the 1st night, but the 2nd night was the same....)

In summary, if this review was the for the Spa alone, it would be a straight 5 star. The facilities, staff and treatments were outstanding. However, because of the cost of the 2 night break and the shortcomings of the rest of the hotel, I think that 3 stars is enough.

My wife and i have just returned form the best spa break ever. From the first minute we were treated like royalty. All staff bent over backwards for us. The hotel, grounds and spa are all first class and beautiful. Nothing beats sitting in a hot tub drinking champagne in the snow.
The 5 course meal was fantasic with good local produce cooked to perfection.
To the owners of this hotel, your staff are doing you proud.
Best break we`ve ever had and will definatly be back soon.

My husband and I had a fabulous break here at the end of February – It was the perfect tonic after a hectic previous few weeks. I agree with other reviewers in that you will need a car if you want to venture out from the Hotel, but that is a minor minor detail. We went out after sumptuous breakfasts and came back late afternoon to enjoy the wonderful Spa facilities and prepare for our equally wonderful dinners!

We were also upgraded due to refurbishment, fabulous room, one of the new ones with a huge deep bath and a Tile TV at the end – Brilliant. Champagne in the Hot tub at the Spa and in the bath watching TV, what more could a girl want?!!

All the staff without exception were lovely and very very accommodating without being patronising in the slightest.
We will be back, Yes it isn’t cheap, but well worth it for the location, ambience and a lovely treat. Thank-you Armathwaite, a hidden gem.

Room Tip: Our room, one of two new ones overlooking the courtyard was superb.
