We really enjoyed this resort, the water was perfectly clear and beautiful views. We spent a lot of time exploring but we wished we spent more time at the resort. The only problem is that everything there was so expensive. The food was completely over priced, and the hotel charges for everything, including a parking fee of about $20.00 per day. Breakfast is $22.00 per person daily and dinner will start at $24.00 per meal. Enjoy everything there but for us next time we will choose a cheaper hotel downtown and spend more time exploring the island and saving some cash.

Located far off the beaten path is this small oasis. The staff was friendly and accommodating when necessary, but be aware, they are definitely on island time. There were no distractions from the meeting and the beach, although quite rocky, was right at your fingertips.

Just returned from 5 nights (March 2013) at the Gran Melia and couldn't be happier. The hotel is beautiful, very open and airy. The staff was very accomodating and friendly. Like previous posts - the beach is rocky but apparently all of PR is like that. The hotel really needs to provide better lounges for those who want to lay on the beach - most were torn and unusable. The pool is large and clean. You can rent the Bali Beds for only $25 / day - worth it because the lounge chairs go very quickly. Not a great experience at La Pasion - average food and HORRIBLE service. This restaurant is not run or owned by the Gran Melia so that may be the problem. I highly recommend Tempo, we had a great meal there and service was great. Overall, very happy with my decision to stay at the Gran Melia despite the bad reviews.

Four of us stayed at the Gran Melia Puerto Rico in December 2012. During the stay, two of us received numerous bug bites. After returning home and a trip to the physician, it was confirmed the bites were from bed bugs. Numerous attempts to contact management via telephone and email were never answered. Only a security supervisor was helpful. In the end, I received an email from customer service dismissing the bites as possibly from mosquitoes or gnats; and only offering discounts for a future visit. There will be no future visit. The lack of response by management to address and correct the condition was extremely disappointing.

Dear Mike B:

I remember your case since I personally responded to your emails in several occasions.

Whenever a claim is presented we view it as an opportunity to show our willingness to "walk the extra mile". This includes using all of our resources and those of external professionals in diverse fields to reassert the quality of our offering.

External professionals in the pest control industry reviewed your room and found your claim not valid. Prior and subsequent users of these installations found them to their liking.

As I stated on my most recent letter sent to you, our property is located in between the National Rain Forrest El Yunque and next to one of the prettiest beaches in the Island, thus there is no shortage of humidity. In El Yunque over 100 billion gallons of rainwater fall per year, it rains about 4 times a day. We encourage our guests to keep sliding doors closed at all times to reduce humidity in the rooms and the intrusion of mosquitoes and gnats.

We feel disillusioned in not being able to meet your expectations in this instance, expectations that are met and exceeded with other guests year round. Our offer to provide you in subsequent visits to our facilities the highest standard of service and enhance it with additional arrangements is still available.

Mr. B, once again please contact me directly upon your next visit to greet and treat you as you deserves.

Cordially yours and always at your service,

Iván Sotomayor

My husband and I recently visited Puerto Rico for the first time in March 2013 and stayed at Grand Melia hotel. The hotel was beyond breathtaking with the views of the pools and ocean. Our room was amazing and we got upgraded to a much larger room because we originally booked a king bed and we got a queen bed when we checked into the hotel. The room we got upgraded to for free had 2 jacuzzi tubs (one inside and one outside on the large balcony), a full kitchen, table, 2 bathrooms, and king size bed with flat screen tv on the wall. It was so beautiful! The resort had 3 great restaurants, a pool bar where we got lunch twice during our stay, and a bar in the lobby. We had red level access, which was super nice to have a butler help us with anything we needed during our stay. We were celebrating a birthday, so my husband set up a private dinner on the beach for me with Tony, one of the red level butlers. It was such an amazing evening! Gabriel and Tony, the butler, both went above and beyond to make our stay a very enjoyable one and for that we will be visiting again soon! We also enjoyed the food at the hotel, everyone was professional, and the service was fabulous. We also went to the spa and got massages and facial, which we highly recommend.

Room Tip: Beach Vacation Club rooms were awesome!!
