“Inexpensive & delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2014

We ordered a little of everything-a chicken, some ribs, pork chunks & papas fritas. With drinks & everything, we spent less than $30! You can carry out, but we decided to sit at one of the little tables on the sidewalk. FYI-BBQ doesn't mean the same as it does in the US-no sauce here, it just means the food is cooked on a grill. Everything was delicious, even without BBQ sauce.

“El Verde is a MUST.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

We drove past El Verde about 3 times and each time it was packed. So I wasn't going past it a 4th time without stopping. We had a full pound of pork chunks, .5 pound of ribs, .5 chicken, two large rice and beans, 5 sodas and 2 bags of chips all for under $30. It was some of the best food I ate while in Puerto Rico. We had dinner bills over $150 and I still enjoyed this food much better. So if you have plans to visit the Rain forest (El Yunque) or Luquillo Beach or Farjado to kayak to the bio-luminescent bay make sure you plan to eat at El Verde. Just some words of advice...bring your appetite and a "little" bit of money.
Also just watch out because it comes up on you fast. As soon as you get off route 66 to head onto route 3 it is right there on your right hand side.
Eat here and you will be thanking me for telling you so:).

“A 'Taste' of Puerto Rico!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2014

This local favorite is busy everyday. On our 2nd and last day of our trip, I made a point to go and see where the locals go. I ordered 1 whole chicken, arroz con gandules (medium), pork ribs (1/2 dish), peril chunks (1/2dish), mofongo (fried plantain-based dish) and sides (platanos, papas fritas and while I was waiting a fresh Pina Colada all for under $30. This place is a MUST GO if you are in the Rio Grande area! (Hmmm-Hmmm Gooood!)

“Meats Galore”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014

This place lacks any coherent ordering system. There's no line or register. You just jostle for position and hope one of the people look at you instead of someone else in the crowd. No pandering to non-Spanish speakers either, which kind of made me love them. The place is hot, greasy and amazing. The chicken was moist and oh so tasty. The ribs were meaty and had great flavor. Their rice and beans made me want more. Just don't come here if you are a vegetarian or have any desire to eat a vegetable b/c nothing like that happens here. It's a meaty, greasy mecca of roadside barbecue perfection! Get you some.

“Yum!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014

Ate dinner here and got enough to eat the next day for lunch. I wouldn't call it BBQ as much as I would call it rotisserie but whatever you call it, it was DELICIOUS!
