We just returned from a week-long stay at the Westin Rio Mar Beach Resort in Puerto Rico. I had stayed at other Westin properties and was pleased in the past. The rooms are nice and roomy, but once you step out of the nice room -- watch out and be sure to bring your credit card. Everything from breakfast to lunch to dinner is sky-high in price. All meals are ridiculous. Lunch by the pool for my husband and I with two kids under seven was $50. a day. Dinner was outrageous. At the oriental-style restaurant a bowl of lo mein noodles was $20 per bowl, per child. My impression was that most people there on business don't fret about expensing such meals, but for a family, you feel the impact, and it adds up.
The service at the hotel is nice. People are friendly, and helpful. Sometimes they speak Spanish in front of you and you're not sure if they are mocking your questions or being rude.
Overall, the pool is beautiful, the beach is clean and the staff is courteous. My only gripe is price, price, price.
