“Real nice resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

Before we went, I read other reviews of this resort. Many were negative. On the contrary, we had a very positive experience. The staff was great and the resort offered everything you would need. They had a guard shack and only let in people that belonged there, so security on the resort was a non-issue. Although one could stay without leaving the complex, we did venture out and found our way around safely. The on-site facilities were well-maintained. Great pools. The beach was cleaned daily, except for weekends, but even then it was very usable. The food and the parking were good, but slightly over-priced, which could be expected. Those were the only knocks (although minor) that we could give this resort. It is a great place for couples or families, as they offer many activities to please all. We would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Get a full ocean view room. It's worth the extra cost.

Grounds were nice as was the beach. That's where the positive ends. Hotel getting run down as well as rooms. Food was out rageously expensive and you are a captive. The, two weeks after our stay I was charged $116.28 on my CC that I did not owe.

We were fortunate to secure a fantastic discounted rate and then receive a room upgrade upon arrival. The cleanliness and quality of our room was unlike anything else we experienced while travelling around all of Puerto Rico. The pools and hot tubs were in great condition and the grounds beautifully maintained. The restaurants seemed to be quite overpriced so we went to Luquillo to eat. The location provides fast access to El Yunque. Parking is extraordinarily expensive ($18.75/day).

had a wonderful time. the service was excellent. the room was very nice, plenty big enough for us two. the food was very good, the burgers are great! everything was expensive but it is a resort.the restaurants are all different. Palio was excelent but the asian place Shima was a bit of a disapointment. Tiki hut was on the beach and was good. The happy hour deal was not that grat but better than nothing. the beach was well maintained and so were the pools. We compared the rooms looking over the beach and overlooking the rain forest and El Yungue on floor 7. we took the forest view, the mist over the mountains and watching the sun set was spectacular. we have had oceans views before so we took something different. A trip to the bio-bay is a must. The rain forest and the waterfalls were fun. san juan was a little to touristy but the forts were spectacular. h besure to ask for a fridge in the room, could cut down on the food and drink cost.o

We stayed at the Rio from 12/7 to 12/11 and had a wonderful time. Th hotel grounds and loacation are magnificant. The room was clean and the king size bed was incredibly comfortable..The staff at every turn, were friendly and eagar to insure we were enjoying our stay. We paticularly enjoyed interacting with Rudy the bellman who greeted us upon arrival and was super freindly throughout the stay. The hotel incidentals are expensive. I strongly recommend renting a fridge for $10 per day. We visited the grocery store, Amigos, several miles west on route 3 and were able to stock up on beer, liquor and snacks. We purchased a small cooler at Walgreens next door and were able to bring cold drinks on to the beach . I think renting a car is the way to go as well. We were able to experience local dining that was amazing and some a bit off the beaten path. The Kiosks are worth the ride. I recommend #43. I had stuffed red snapper that was amazing. Also tried grouper in a garlic sauce that was amazing. Don Pepes is on rt 3 on the right immediatly after turning west coming out of the resort. The can can pork chop and seafood gumbo are outstanding. Tried a taste of the Mahi in cream and wine sauce.....wow! Spent a day at the Rain Forest and a day in San Juan....both worth the time. I read some negative reviews but did not see or experience anything like those experiences. I will return!

Room Tip: The Rain Forest view as wonderful. If you want Ocean view make sure you are on floors 6 or 7
