Enjoyed beach and pool. Cleanliness of room was not up to standards. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rent a car to get around. We rented a car for 1 day for 40.00 and drove over to rain forest and saved us some money. We enjoyed snorkling and the Bio Bay.

I had a great stay. THe first two nights they did have us in a not so great view on the 4th floor looking at the garden but i was able to request for a better view later and was so happy to get room 6040 which they call a partial view which i found as an amazing view better than a full view in some areas bc i was on the side so i could see out along the coast. Even so vacation is not in the hotel room go out for a walk and enjoy the view of the beach. THe rooms were very nice and the hotel was very clean and beautiful. The rooms have tile floors however so bring slippers if you're going to gripe about getting dirt on your feet but thats not worth not picking this hotel for. The line for the concierge is super long as some say but thats okay don't need it much. The view of the ocean and the beach was just perfect. secluded and the water was warm you don't even flinch stepping in, only down side is no life guard so only adults. THe lobby area was freezing so bring a jacket if you plan on spending most of your time at the hotel, i did not- i enjoyed activities outside the hotel which you need a car for. There is no need to eat at the hotel if you have a car just head east about 15 minutes on the north (left side) there is a kiosk of 60 local restaurants/shops to eat at for decent prices. We went there often to eat. La parrilla #2 and el vejigante#31 #43, #57 were great places i'd reccommend to eat at. also right by the hotel Don Pepe's is a great place to eat at if you want Red Snapper... delicious!

Room Tip: higher the floor the better the view!

Let me begin by saying this was our first trip to the resort. This is my mom's timeshare so the 5 day stay was "free". I am not a fan of Wyndham mostly because of their high pressure tactics to get people to purchase timeshares.

When we first arrival on the property the valet service was phenomenal! I can say they were always ready with a smile, suggestion on activities/restaurants/shopping, and eager to make our stay as wonderful as possible. The front desk stay is equally efficient and helpful. When we checked in I asked the front desk clerk, "Ray" if the room had a good view. He said no but would be able to move us to another room the following day that at present the hotel was booked. No problem, we moved rooms the next day.

The rooms overall were clean but by no means spotless. The rooms are well supplied and decorated but are beginning to show their age. I think the biggest issue with the atmosphere is the antiquated, smelly, disgusting carpet in the hallways. It desperately needs to be replaced with tile, hardwood flooring, or something since it is stained so badly. It reminds me of carpet found in a rundown building and not a high end resort.

We only sampled a few of the restaurants. We are both working professionals and the last thing we want to do on vacation is wear business/casual elegant attire to eat. The Tiki Hut was by far our favorite; the staff and food were both outstanding.

Something’s I would recommend....get a rental car! There are lots of things to do and see. You are better off paying $25/day for valet parking and being done with it. If you get a chance go to Plazas Las Americana’s for shopping. It is massive, 3 levels and will kick your butt so be prepared! On your way to the resort before you check in stop by Walgreens or somewhere and get yourself some drinks. They are expensive at the resort...oh and most rooms do not have fridge so plan accordingly.

Overall I would recommend the resort and had a good experience but like everything else some things could be greatly improved.

Room Tip: Room 5029 terrible view Room 5066 awesome view

I stayed at Rio Mar October 18-22, 2012 and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I was greeted with smiling faces and courteous staff the moment I walked out of the taxi cab. The lobby manager, Richard, was amazing!!! He was extremely helpful, kind, and thoughtful! The restaurants in the hotel were phenomenal as well. We had dinner at 3 of the restaurants and each were delicious. The pool bar bartenders were also very kind and professional. I seriously cannot wait to go back to this resort. I must say, that I read a few reviews about how expensive the food and drinks were here, but having traveled to many locations, I thought Rio Mar was reasonably priced. Definitely book this hotel!!!
