“Perfect Getaway”

Got an amazing deal on this hotel through Cheap Carribean and could not have been more pleased with the value. The hotel was beautiful, the staff was helpful, and we were upgraded to a ocean view room.

Despite everyone's advice we did not rent a car and were pleased with our decision. Yes, cabs were overpriced, but we only left the resort for dinner, and we still saved enough money by leaving the hotel for the meal that the expensive cabs did not matter that much.

As far as food suggestions go, we ate at La Parilla the first night which was excellent. The second night we ate at the Mexican place reccomended to us by all of our cab drivers--Lolitas--which was cheap and tasty and the portions were huge. At both of these places we had enough leftovers for large lunches the next day. On our final two nights we ate at Richies. The food is certainly not gourmet, but the location cannot be beat--both in its proximity to the Rio Mar and its spectacular view. Both night we were greated by Richie, who is a wonderful host.

The weather was perfect everyday and the ocean ideal for swimming. We also enjoyed the adult pool, and I took the occasional trip down the waterslide in the activity pool. Tennis facilities were great.

We loved this vacation and highly reccomend it to others, especially if you can get a good deal on a package.

This Hotel was great, the service was good, most of the food was good, the pool and beach were great, to be honest with you I don't think the prices for food were that bad, I would say that the prices were average for a good restraraunt. Now as far as drinks yes they were high, but we did what others did, we had the taxi driver stop at a store and we picked up all of our beer and kids drinks and brought them to the hotel, matter of fact we had so much beer and drinks that when we got to the hotel the bell men put all the booze (and kids drinks) on its own baggage carrier and took . it to our rooms . My only complaint is the food at the pool was just ok, and my other complaint was it was very hard to get into some of the restruants, other than that it was great. I would go to this hotel again, and would love to go back to Puerto Rico.

Just stayed here for a business function. Cleaning staff went through our belongings and stole valuables. Security/Management were no help at all. Service was consistent with the rest of the island....ATROCIOUS!!! Food was awful...and that is if you can actually find a restaurant that is open. Typically, only 2 of their 8 restaurants are open for dinner.

Don't just avoid this hotel, avoid Puerto Rico altogether!

We just got back from a 4 day stay at the Rio Mar and I have to say that it was a beautifu and wonderful resort. The staff were very helpful and friendly answering and helping when asked. The only thing I could criticize is the charge you have to pay per day for self parking and the price they charge for food and mixed drinks. We did rent a car so we cut cost by both eating and drinking outside the resort every evening. We followed fellow advisor advice on that. The best restaurant by far we thought was Riche's just above the resort. Every thing we had along with the service was excellent.
We traveled everyday to see the different towns and to El Yunque. Was not impressed with Yunque but it was crowded and we did not try to fight the tour crowds. Old San Juan was nice but not my cup of tea. We played at several of the local casino's along with the one at the resort and all were small but lots of fun and we did win...........................
The beach at the resort was very nice even thought the water was pretty cool. Lots of room to walk or lounge.
Overall this was one of the nicer Wyndham resorts that we have stayed and would reccommend.

I stayed at the Rio Mar on a company confernece with an extended weekend so 5 days in all. The resort is GREAT. The facilities are fantatsic and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Good choice of resturants and right on a beautiful beach. They arranged a number of tennis games for me with locals which you rarely see at other resorts.

This hotel is great for romantic couples and families of all ages.

Do not hesitate in booking.

The Wyndham Rio Del Mar in Rio Grande Puerto Rico was much better than expected. I am writing this from the perspective of a couple looking for a short getaway. First of all Puerto Rico was better than expected, U.S. dollars and industry have created a strong infrastructure and jobs, good roads, downside Mc D's, BK, Costco and WalMart but, as it is in the states handy when needed. Back to the resort, rented a car so as not to be captive for the price $150 for 5 days a good idea considering grnd transport from airport approx $75 each way, downside they rip you for $20/dy valet parking, $15 Self believe me no shortage of parking just a scam, tip loose or don't use tickets when getting your car and you might miss a couple of billings. Moving on, the staff is great friendly and helpful. Not that I saw all the rooms but, we were waterfront west 2114 very nice only negative is conference crowd was using facilities below but, no later than 11pm not really a problem and somewhat fun. Room was nice, all tile very good bath. Bedding was phenomenal 800 +tc sheets and great pillow top heaven. Open the door no a/c needed. Again nick and dime on the Internet in room $14.95 /dy glossed over because free wireless in lobby not what I wanted but, adequate for a quick connect. Pools are nice, cabanas available with reservation didn't use not closely checked. Little water slide if you have kids but, nothing to write home about. Beach is nice, sand is brown not white but soft and free of stones, and shells if you like shells out of luck. Restaurants; Palio nice and good but, expensive very but, alternatives in the area not great, which include Richie's up the hill great view, food average not too expensive definitely go if clear, Antojellos misspelled but, down the hill, no atmosphere, food average at best probably better for break, lunch. Day trip to Culebra Isle was great awesome beach and local beach vendor food. Eat the Pastalilos after you get of the boat at the restaurant waterfron on the left side of the strip awesome. It is a long boat ride about 75 mins but, only $2.50. Plane costs $25.00 might want to boat out and plane back. Don't bother with hotel trip to same place unless no car. That's it don't usually write but, was compelled. The place doesn't need updating at leat what I saw of it, sour grapes by those who may have gotten a bumb room of location ask for something else. Play golf but, hate it the courses looked nice didn't play. Never went to the gym which is unusual for me, so can't comment never even looked at it. Enough go you'll should like it not sure about the day rate depends on who it' is booked through $250/dy target.

Ok so I think the title is pretty self explanatory. My girlfriend and I went to the Wyndham from 2/14 to 2/18. We read a ton of reviews on this site and others, did our homework, and this is the place we decided to go (she didn't have a passport so other travel places in the Carib. were limited). Needless to say, if you've read any reviews about this place, you've read mixed reviews like we did.

First of all, when we finally landed in PR, we were originally going to get a taxi but just decided to get the shuttle that runs directly from the airport to the hotel ($60 per person for a round trip). Right when you get down the stairs at the airport, there is a huge sign for the hotel and someone there who can make all the arrangements. They just found my name on the reservations list (good thing it was listed) and it was charged directly to the room. They give you these passes for the return trip, but the driver never asked for them. The charter bus was air conditioned with big windows and the driver was real nice, so I think that was better than having to deal with a cab in a country we had never been (if you have a map and rent a car, the drive looks pretty easy tho).

When we checked in, I asked for a king instead of the two queens that Orbitz said, and the front desk receptionist (really nice) said they didn't have any kings left so they upgraded our room to a partial view. The room was awesome, 7th floor, partial view of the ocean. Since we were on a somewhat budgeted trip, this was a surprise to have a room so nice. (no bugs ever, bathroom was super clean, maid service everyday, new towels everyday). The only thing with the hotel room is don't plan on using the mini fridge unless you want to get charged everyday, and don't open any bottles of water because we heard they are about 5 or 6 bucks each.

After we were all settled we just went to the valet and they hailed a cab for us that was onsite. (You can't really walk off the resort on the road beacuse the entrance is about a mile away and its guarded, so a cab was just easier). We just told the cabbie to take us to a grocery store (it helps to know a little spanish) and there we got all the food needed for breakfast, lunch, alcohol (they sell bottles in the gift shop at the hotel but its 3x the American price, anywhere else off the resort it was about $8 for a fifth of rum). Also, don't plan on buying cigars at the resort either because naturally, they are way overpriced. I made the mistake of not bringing any, but the convience store at the corner of the entrance had some. After all those trips, the cab driver only charged us $40 (were from DC so were used to that).

The second day we walked east down the beach for a few miles and came across a strip of stores near a public beach (when you are on the beach and you see a billboard, the stores are right there). Go to La Parilla, easily the best food we had ever tasted (we walked back the last night we were there again). Get the fried pork with plantains and the garlic chicken. Each time we went, with dinner, drinks, and tip it was only about $40.

The resort pretty much dies at night, but we had read this in other reviews. Go here if you want to basically just relax on the beach and do nothing. They have a bar on the beach but its super expensive, so I just brought down a cooler with drinks and nobody bothered us. They have chairs already out on the sand and if you want they can even put your umbrella in the sand for you. It was a mixed crowd, with the beach having some families and some couples like us. You can just keep pulling your chairs down the beach so it isnt too crowded. They had a kid pool and a adult pool, which shockingly had no kids. They also have waiters at the pool that can bring you whatever overpriced food/drink you want.

Overall, awesome trip. Would def go back again if we could get a good deal. Would probably rent a car just so we could explore more. About 200 yards either way down the beach its deserted. Walked by a few locals either on the beach or just walking, everyone was cool.
