We have been eating at Le Chalut for the last few years and have at least one lunch here every time we visit this area of France. Ate here this time with friends, and they were very impressed. In summer you need to be here by 12.15 or have a reservation particularly on a Sunday otherwise the French will have beaten you to it.
There is a good choice of set menus varying in price and an excellent carte. The seafood and fish are excellent, beautifully cooked and presented. The staff are friendly and efficient (and will speak English if you are struggling although most english seem to favour the tourist restaurants in Port Vendres.) Good choice of aperatifs and wines, and the coffee and chocolate truffles finish the meal well.
A proper french restaurant favoured by the french and not yet discovered by lots of english tourists !! Strongly recommend a visit.
