Visited the Szechaun tonight for the first time with daughter, boyfreind and his parents.
Huge choice but we settled on the fixed price Peking menu for 2 at £17.50 per head.
Same choice all round so it was the Peking menu for six, and not disapointed with the result.
Excellent quality and served piping hot.
Highly recommended. £143 for six including drinks.
We were there when it was packed to the doors, every table taken by large groups, but that did not seem to be a problem as we hardly had to wait between courses.
We will go again.

We first came across this restaurant during a stopover on the way to Cornwall in the summer. It's a reasonably large and tastefully decorated establishment which caters for everyone. Weekends get very busy but the service is faultless. The dishes we had were large, piping hot and absolutely delicious! In fact so good that when we had the opportunity we booked a mini break so that we could sample the delights again and we were not disappointed. If you dine before 7.00 there is a 15% discount on food so we ate there twice! We will definitely be going back.

I took my girlfriend to this restaurant at lunch time today (Sunday) for the Szechuan's "£10 All you can eat buffet". I can't say anything bad about the food, it was constantly coming out fresh. Occasionally a tiny bit greasy but nothing too bad.

The atmosphere didn't feel that great. We were slightly rushed to the table (which were very, very close to each other even though half the restaurant was empty) and weren't asked if we were having the buffet option so it was a tad awkward presuming we had to go up when we wanted.

All the staff were collecting plates as soon as the folks touched the plate so, if you wanted anything else from the buffet you had to take another plate...

I've put very good as, even though I've written my pedantic comments above, the food was good. Just remember, if you want a relaxed meal, go on a different day! I never realised how much the atmosphere made a difference.

Had a family get together with a table of 13. The service was impeccable and the staff were very obliging making sure that the quantity of food matched the appetite. Both food and drinks were good value.

We eat at the Szechaun regularly and never once have we had bad service, the service is always friendly and attentive. The menu is extensive, but most diners seem to stick to their choice of set menus, which is a shame as they have some lovely dishes on the full menu. Do try the Squid in Garlic Pepper. Food arrives piping hot and well presented. Lunch times can b e very quiet and you may have the restaurant to yourself, which can be off putting at some places but not at the Szechaun. The front of house mananger Chi, will make sure your experience is a good one. Thatcham has many Chinese restaurants but the Szechaun is by far the best. Their Lunch time specials are very good value. We have taken overseas clients here on many occasions and each time our visitors have been impressed. Our American collegues have asked to go there on their next visit as they enjoyed it so much. We managed to discuss business and have long discussions on the food at the same time, it all helps to bolster relationionships with clients.
