I visited on the Friday of the LU 150 Gala. I had not been to this railway before except about 30 years earlier when it was part of Central line. I enjoyed an intensive timetable with special engines. It was worth paying the supplement to travel in Met 353 coach whose restoration is superb. As a signalman on another heritage line I visited North Weald and Ongar signalboxes. The full signaling restored at North Weald is impressive and I am sure Ongar will be as good in due course. The on line booking worked very well and I was not expecting so many heritage buses running the Epping - North Weald link service. A great day apart from the odd showers.

Had an excellent day on this railway with parents - an early Father's Day present. Arrived at ongar and took the steam train to North Weald and on to Coopersale by diesel train. The volunteer staff couldn't have been more helpful. We also took advantage of the vintage bus ride with a scenic trip to Epping via Toot Hill. Would definitely recommend.

The trains and staff are friendly enough but the service had recently opened after the winter break and the cracks were showing. The engine broke down and having a young child with us we were keen to have a rough estimate of a repair time 20 mins rolled on and past so it was a distant memory. I realise its difficult to accurately guess these things but we would have made our own way home if we had known rather than relying on their transport. The green bus was a winner with out toddler and while it was a nostalgic trip I don't think we will repeat it. The website time tables were confusing and it was rather expensive.

I took my elderly and infirm parents for a ride on this lovely old railway on Bank Holiday Monday. We parked at North Weald with no problem at all and went for a nice lunch first at the Kings Head pub which is in the next road to the station. We went on the diesel shuttle to Coopersale and back, a very pleasant ride through part of Epping Forest and then crossed over the track at North Weald station to get the steam train to Ongar. On our return from Ongar to North Weald we picked up the single decker red 1950's bus and had an hour's drive around the pretty country lanes and villages, all three types of transport were included in the price of the ticket and could be used for unlimited journeys all day which for £11.00 for senior citizens and £13.00 for ourselves represented real value for money. The volunteers who have renovated the station and trains are amazing; what they have achieved is tremendous and provides great fun and a real sense of history. The drivers and station staff all wear traditional uniforms and go out of their way to make it a special occasion for all visitors. We were particularly pleased with the way that the driver and conductor of the bus behaved towards an older passenger with autism; they treated him kindly and with respect; not in a patronising way but just as they would with any other person which clearly made this particular gentleman's day as he was obsessed with the bus and its personnel and they printed off special tickets for him and gave him all the information he was requesting for his note book. All in all, a wonderful day out, the only thing to watch out for is making sure that you check the timetables in advance as if not you can find that you have a gap of a couple of hours to fill at one end of the line before another train or bus comes along.

Found the attraction on tripadvisor and bought tickets on line before going to Ongar. Parking was no problem on the BH monday. Very nice and well kept platform and ticket office. Very well kept steam engine pulling a good number of carriages. Very smooth ride down to north weald, good fun watching engine moving from back to front. Time for a quick ride with a diesel pull to end of line at Coopersale and back before getting vintage bus to Epping. Time for a look around and then lunch. Caught the faster 339 bus back to North Weald, and train back to Ongar. Both trains had their first class carriages available. Tuck and souvenir shops at station, not big but adequate. Finished off day with walk around ongar. Overall an enjoyable day out on very well maintained vehicles and also nice to see quite a number of vehicles being restored to what looked to be very good condition.
