“Loved it!!”

The most relaxing part of my trip. If you want room service and fancy hotel rooms this isn't for you. But if you want a hammock on the porch that looks right down on the beach with food and drink a 50' barefoot walk away (at BiBi's) this is the place. The girls in the office are extremely helpful. They call you water taxi's, set you up with tours, just about everything. I wouldn't go back to Panama without stopping there again.

I made reservations at this establishment based on the glowing reviews I found on Trip Advisor. I want to start with the good part and that is the management by Lisa. She was extremely helpful, gracious and accomodating. Her assistant Elizabeth who took over when Lisa was gone was equally gracious.

Having said that, the room that I shared with my sister was a disaster. We had the upstairs, two room "suite". We shared our room with bats, mice and gheckos. The gheckos I can understand, and even appreciate. The others not so much. The room leaked every night. Midway through out stay a tarp was placed (or repostioned) over the roof. This did not solve the water coming in, just moved it to another location. The shower did not have a shower head, but was a pipe coming out of the wall. The shower door was near impossible to open, and then I could not close it to take a shower resulting in puddles of water on the floor. The shutters did not close completely, and were ineffective in keeping out the mosquitos. The beds each had mosquito nets over them. However if you turned on the ceiling fan in one room it hit the net frame and made loud noise all night long.

The room came with a $5 coupon per person for breakfast. The only problem with this is that the restaurant didn't open til later. I was even told at one point that they would not open till lunch or later as there weren't enough people staying at the hotel. I can understand this reasoning, bringing in staff for a guest or two doesn't make sense, but we should have been told this beforehand.

The locks on the doors are minimal. The front door had a simple padlock that was about 1/8 inch thick, same for the french door shutters going across the front. The bedroom lock, which we were encouraged to use consisted on a simple push button lock that any child knows how to unlock. We did have a deadbolt on the downstairs entrance which I appreciated.

Another positive is the view and location. Both are great as the Buncanner has one of the few beach fronts on the island. Several islanders that I spoke with said that the Bucaneer had been greatly neglected by the owners. It is a shame as it seems that it has great potential. I had family staying at Casa Aquario which I would highly recommend.

we spent our last three nights in panama in the buccaneer resort and it was totally worth it! the owners are more then friendly and helpful. thank you guys for everything ;) the location is beatiful and the huts have a great location directly at the beach and are nice and very clean. the service is great! we´ve also been looking at the other places on the island, and this one was definetely the best choice!

i can honestly recommend this place to everyone who wants to spend beatiful caribic days and nights in a beautiful place! and dont miss bibis on the beach for excellent seafood and great service and maybe take a surf-lesson there. the surf-school is awesome!

sadly, we had to fly back home. if not, we would have definetely stayed there for longer!

and to all the people complaining about the sandflies: what did you expect from an island that is located in the so-called "sandfly-bay"? bibis gives out coconut oil for free which totally helps against them and even sells bottles of it. we never had problems with them. and the oil can still be used as a massage-oil after your vacation. and btw, i dont think the owners of buccaneer residet the sandflies on the island, so dont blame them!

We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite upstairs. The views and hammock made for an unforgettable stay. Buccaneer has a great location and a friendly, helpful staff. Suki and Zander where the hosts during our stay. Suki provided advice about what to do and see during our stay on the island. We loved Bibi's, the restaurant located next door. Catching water taxis at the end of the pier was lots of fun and inexpensive. A half day at Red Frog beach was relaxing and beautiful, with beach chairs and umbrellas available to rent. The water taxi took us to the beach and then picked us up at the time we agreed upon. Red Frog is a better beach to lay out and better water to play in the surf than the beach in front of Buccaneer. Surf lessons from Manuel and Louis at Escuela Del Mar Surf school at Bibi's were awesome. You can also rent kayaks and paddle boards which are fun. We did have a few maintenance issues but Suki and Zander were quick to make temporary quick fixes. If Buccaneer would improve some of the maintenance (i.e., ac did not work, roof leaks in heavy storms, locks are rusted and sometimes don't work) it would be the perfect place to stay. The chitres are annoying (sometimes even with the oil), but it is worth it for a beautiful stay on Carenero island. The only negative experience we had was a snorkel tour with Coopeguitour. They didn't bring any snorkel equipment and the oversold the tour by 6 people. Overall, staying on Carenero island was one of our best vacation experiences.

Room Tip: Buccaneer is quiet and it is great to hear the waves crashing. The upstairs rooms have a hammock.

Location of this resort is excellent. It is right next to an amazing restaurant, minutes walk from great beach, and has beautiful views. Staff is very friendly. Only complaint is that the restroom does smell like sewer.

The hotel is really cool with bungalows on the beach. Close to the main island but still far away enough that you feel like you're on a secluded tropical island. There is no place like it in Bocas.

Staff are very friendly and helpful and were willing to accommodate us. Not the most efficient staff (slow check-in) but very nice people. Only complaint were the air conditioners technically worked but even at the highest settings I could barely feel any cool air. So it was a very hot room.

Overall this is an excellent place. Loved it here.

I stayed here with a girlfriend for four nights in early June. We stayed in a bungalow the first night and then moved to a second floor suite for the remainder (which was a great choice since we loved the hammock). We felt really lucky to end up here because Suki and Sander are familiar with Bocas and gave us lots of trustworthy advice on where to go and what to do. Another great thing was that, despite the uncharacteristic thunderstorms which kept us from snorkeling and going out and about too much, we had a great time just sitting on our balcony watching the water lap against the shore right under the room...this place really is ON the beach! We ate practically every meal at Bibi's just across the way. They have the BEST food and the BEST service. By the time we left we felt like we were leaving our home. Thank you for an amazing stay!

The only reason I didn't give five stars is because the roof leaked on our beds on the most extreme day of the thunderstorms. However, I should mention that this was probably the most extreme weather they had seen in years so it was an unusual situation.

Room Tip: The suites with the wraparound porch were the best. You might want the first floor if it's stor...
