“A great surprise”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

My boyfriend proposed to me on Alnmouth beach and unbeknownst to me had booked this wonderful B&B. We had the biggest room with it's own roll-top bath in the adjoining en-suite, it was very clean, very spacious, and very grand. There were lots of nice little touches like free cake, real coffee in the room and extra options to get luxuries like champagne and strawberries in the room. We didn't stay long enough to enjoy everything Roxbro has to offer so another visit is definitely on the cards!

Room Tip: As a romantic treat get the Ethel Noble room- you will definitely be impressed!

This is the second time we have stayed at Roxbro House, the first being July 2011 when we stayed for our anniversary. On that review I stated that I was sure we would be back and indeed we have just spent another lovely weekend at this wonderful establishment.
We arrived on a cold Friday evening straight from work and were shown to Room 3 which was warm and cosy and beautifully decorated we had stayed in Room 2 last time which overlooked the castle so decided to try a different room this time). Room 3 overlooks the village and farmland in the distance and has a wonderfully big soft bed.
We had pre-booked two Ploughmans platters for our tea due to the time we would be arriving and these were promptly and cheerfully delivered to our room by Stu shortly after our arrival. What a feast - roast ham, a selection of cheeses, wonderful tasty breads, two different tasty chutneys and refreshing grapes - I can thoroughly recommend trying one of these platters, they are amazing!
Breakfast on both days was of the usual high standard - my husband had full English breakfast both days and I had scotch pancakes with bacon and syrup the first morning and scrambled egg with smoked salmon the second this was accompanied by plenty of toast and tea and a cheerful welcome by Claire. (I also have to mention the cold buffet of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, muffins, fruit juice etc - I had fruit and yoghurt both days as well - really delicious!).
The second night we stayed after visiting Alnwick and an invigorating walk along Warkworth beach we booked the Movie Box as my husband had enjoyed it so much last time - this is a box of warm popcorn, two small tubs of icecream and a huge bag of Maltesers to share - very naughty but so nice! We were going to borrow a DVD from the library downstairs but ended up watching a couple of programmes on TV instead while feasting on these treats!
This weekend was booked as a relaxing pre-Christmas treat and it has really re-charged our batteries. Roxbro House is a home away from home and Claire and Stu as always are the perfect hosts - thank you!
I am sure we will return....well there are another 4 rooms to try and the hot tub!!

Drive up from Amble along the river, up the hill past the impressive Warkworth Castle and stop. Youare at Roxbro House. Aperiod buiding with parking outside front door. Awelcoming landlady, very clean and decorated house. Big warm room overlooking castle. Big comfy bed, filter comfy, slippers and dressing gowns. Downstairs several lounges, DVD'S and an honesty bar, un believable! Individually cooked breakfst, allow plenty of time. The Roxbro Rosti is to die for, potato cake with melted cheese, bacon and a poached egg. Best breakfast ever.
Bit pricey for a guest house but on balance, worth it.

Stayed for one night in the Owners Suite, instantly felt right at home. You'll know as soon as you step through the door how good the stay is going to be. Even then the suite exceeded expectations. Super big suite, luxury fittings throughout, your comfort is assured. Hard to leave the next morning, looking forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: Owners Suite occupies the entire top floor, plenty of room to relax in absolute privacy.

This was definitely a 5 star guest house! Great hospitality. Food was freshly prepared and of excellent quality. Fantastic decor throughout the house. A real pleasure to stay. No swimming pool on site however this does not affect the experience of staying at the Roxbro.

Room Tip: Don't think that there would be any room with a problem.

My Wife and i went for a week long trip to Dunhill Golf Tournament in Scotland in October.
On the way we had a two day stopover in Warkworth and booked into the Roxbro House and took advantage of a Deal in the Owners Suite.
We were pleasantly greeted by the owner Claire, to a Victorian splendour of Decor and service.
I can only say good things about our stay at Roxbro House and i would Highly recommend this as a place to stay if you are looking for a Smart B&B.
Owners Suite is complete Top Floor occupying three Rooms ans a Roll Top Bath in Bedroom.!!

Room Tip: Try to Book the Owners Suite.

There is little to add to the many fabulous reviews on this site other than to say that it more than lived up to our very high expectations having seen all the positive comments. Since taking early retirement a couple of years ago we have travelled extensively both abroad and in the U.K. and this (the Ethel Noble) is probably the nicest room we have stayed in. En suites are so often tiny areas with no space to swing a cat but here the bathroom was a very large and completely separate room with huge power shower and olde worlde bathtub.
Breakfasts were outstanding and there was such a vast choice both from the cold buffet and the cooked menu. Chef Stu's Roxbro Rosti was an absolute delight. He and Claire seem to have found the perfect formula and they are currently offering discounted room rates which are great value for money. We hope to return in the near future to spend more time in this beautiful area.
