Wow - what a wonderful Christmas we had here! It's difficult to come up with the words to describe our experience. Lovely, friendly hosts (without being overbearing) who, I might add, have great taste in music and reading material! Excellent, well-cooked and nicely presented food - from the cream tea on arrival to breakfast on the final day. Lovely, comfortable accommodation. Our every need was anticipated and well catered for.

Richard - lovely ironing, food service and chutney-making!

We have never been away for Christmas before but were in need of a break so took the plunge. What a brilliant decision that was and it would be lovely to repeat it every year!

We feel as though we have known Helen and Richard for years. The only down-side was that we have had to come home and look after ourselves again!

We have stayed in Warkworth a few times, all in different places, but this has certainly been the best. I would not hesitate to recommend the Warkworth Old Post Office to any one, it really is that good. We felt like actual guests, like the hosts really wanted us there and were genuinely interested in us. Things like that really make your stay they extra bit special.

We were greeted warmly when we arrived on the rainy Friday, with tea and cake and a lovely chat with Helen in the guest lounge. After that it was a rest before the evening meal which we had opted for.

We stayed in Sea Campion, which is a wonderful little room, with everything you could possibly need for your stay. Although the room is at the front of the building, we were not disturbed at all by the traffic. The bed was very comfortable, as was the bedding, and the room was at a perfect temperature. There was tea and coffee in the room, and extra supplies - as well as milk and a coffee machine (delicious!) - just outside. The bathroom was clean and perfectly suited to its purpose. The shower was fantastic - very powerful and plenty of hot water.

When we went downstairs for our evening meal, the atmosphere had been set - music played softly behind a screen, candles glowed lightly on the table. The meal was delicious, the food was top quality. It was excellent value for the three courses.

The breakfast was fantastic too, we had the Full English each morning and it really set us up for the day, as well as tasting great.

The B&B is halfway up the hill, close to just about everything in Warkworth including the village shop, a delightful patisserie, the fantastic Gray's, a selection of pubs and the castle.

I don't think that there was anything we disliked about the Warkworth Old Post Office or our stay. Not even the weather!

So so lovely.Me and my Mum were welcomed on a freezing wet December night with warm open arms.As soon as we arrived our bags were taken up and coats hung up and offered cake and coffee by the fire within 2 mins.Perfect.The old post office is equisitely decorated giving a homely old feel with a modern nautical twist also decorated for Christmas with the tree up by the fire it looked divine. We had pre-booked dinner( starter, main course & dessert) also extras (nibbles, bread, water) gave it that extra touch! The food was a delight! decorated on the plate in a very a la carte 5 star restaurant way.A+ Food.I would pay a lot for it,so delicious. There is a lounge to lounge in!Very warm, comfortable and relaxing also Richard let us use his ipod for music to listen to! it was these extra touches which other places don't have that gave it an edge. The rooms were so clean and very fresh and decorated in nautical colours teals and blues and creams very relaxing and extremely comfortable. Once again the little extras like water and coffee and biscuits and the toiletries gave it a perfect touch. Also outside the room is a free hot chocolate and coffee machine.so perfect. We had a lovely nights sleep. We had breakfast the next morning and once again AMAZING beautiful food, juices, fruit, yoghurt, croissants and the irresistible griddle cakes! Richard and Helen are such lovely warm welcoming people and make you feel instantly comfortable. I would 100% recommended it.Can not fault one bit, also they have 2 adorable cute dogs which as a dog lover just made the stay 100%.Everything is thought of,attention is paid to every detail. I have been coming to warkworth since i was 7 years old and i love it.First time here though but it will definitely not be my last.I hope this review will help people.Thank you so much once again.Eva and Sue Sanchez,Yorkshire.UK. The old post office is in a perfect location with easy access to cycle rides, beaches and the wonderful cragside house. Helen and Richard were wonderful hosts and the Sea Lavender room was very comfortable with an enormous double bed. The breakfast was wonderful and set us up for the day, my husband really enjoyed the local craster kippers. Our only regret is that we did not sample one of Helen's dinners which I'm sure would have been excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for these perfect hosts.

Room Tip: sea lavender with enormous double - very comfortable

A friend and I, plus our two dogs, stayed three nights at the Old Post Office. Helen and Richard are the most genuinely welcoming hosts I think we have ever encountered - and we've encountered a few! Nothing was too much trouble for them and, by the time we left, we felt as if we were saying goodbye to old friends. The rooms and the lounge area are beautifully decorated, pristine and exceptionally comfortable and the overall feeling of the place is 'home from home'. Attention is paid to every detail, down to the dog biscuits left in our room for our four-legged companions. The breakfasts are par excellence and not just the bog standard menu - some very innovative additions have been well thought out by Helen and everything is beautifully presented. The same can be said for the evening meal which we really enjoyed. We rarely return to a place, but I think we'll be making an exception for The Old Post Office - as soon as possible!

Thank you very much for the great review; like you say we had such a good time together, I felt like one of the group and you came up with such good suggestions and ideas. I do hope you break the rule of only visiting a place once as it will be great to have you back. Love to the dogs!

The Old Post Office is everything which previous reviewers have posted (sorry for the pun!) and more - in fact, five stars does not do justice to the experience. The Old Post Office is beautifully and tastefully decorated with a sea theme both in the dining room/lounge and bedrooms. Above all, the welcome from Helen and Richard was outstanding - nothing was too much trouble. Helen's cooking skills are exceptional and I would advise anyone staying at the weekend to pre-book dinner. As for the breakfasts? Simply the best full English I have experienced with the home made hash browns a wonderful touch. On the second morning of our stay my wife chose the Northumberland griddle cakes from the very tempting breakfast specials menu which were unbelievable (I can vouch for this as I helped myself to one from her plate!).

As well as my wife and I and my son, our fourth family member - Barney the spaniel - was welcome with open arms so if you are thinking of taking the dog on holiday with you, have no hesitation as Helen and Richard are real "doggy" people.

Warkworth itself is delightful with some charming shops to explore and a dominating castle at the top of its main street. The beach, according to a helpful local who directed us, is "the best in England" and who am I to doubt him? Its wide expanses were deserted apart from a few fellow dog walkers and a handful of surfers who were taking advantage of the billowing waves without the crowds experienced in Cornwall.

As a base, Warkworth is perfect with the vibrant city of Newcastle just over half an hour's drive away down the A1 and a coastline dotted with some fantastic castles which cannot fail to capture the imagination as rich reminders of our history.

If one heads home after a break thoroughly rejuvenated and chilled out, having packed lots into a stay with even more still to see and a desire to return, then it has served its purpose. In summary, there cannot be a finer place to stay in the county than the Old Post Office at Warkworth.
