My wife and I stayed at El Raco de Madremanya July 2014 in the Ivory Suite for a short honeymoon and general relax before getting back in to the rat race. We could not have picked a more perfect place. The hotel was a short drive from Girona aiport and was impeccably decorated, quiet, comfortable and picturesque. The owners and the team were all very friendly, intelligently attentive and skilled at their profession. Many thanks to Ivan, Josep, the restaurant team and chambermaids who were really a fantastic combination. Thanks for the special touches.

Room Tip: Ivory Suite was actually a seperate house with its own garden. We loved it.

We had wanted the Brown room initially but it was booked so we "settled" for the Orange room. Boy was I pleasantly charmed when we stepped in. It was more beautiful than it looks on the website. Besides almost everything being sublimely decorated in orange, the scent of the room was orangy too, in a touch which didn't overpower the nose but strong enough to reach all corners of the room. We were touring Spain and we wanted to stay in somewhere quiet yet near Girona (just 25 minutes away) and this was indeed a great choice. At the end of the day, you not only return to a serene and ravishing hotel, you have clean and really fresh-smelling sheets which were important for me for a good sleep. If you intend to stay in the room a lot, there's a balcony which gives you a good view of the pool - great for plain relaxing. The TV is very small which didn't matter to us as we are not TV people. The toilet and the bathroom are separated.

We stayed here for two days in the end of a self-guided biking tour, and was the highlight of our trip. Madremanya is a lovely medieval town, located in a beautiful region with plenty of options for those who enjoy cycling. The hotel has two entrances, one of them inside the town, through a historic building. The lovely garden has two swimming pools, one of them heated, and several lounge chairs, where we relaxed after biking through the region. Our room had a living room and terraces with gates to the garden. Above all, the staff was very attentive, making us feel very welcomed. We highly recommend it!

The location is perfect. The hotel adjoins a romantic medieval village with winding roads and alleys. The hotel itself is perfectly suited to self indulgence. There are two spotless pools, the gardens are immaculate and the rooms are tastefully decorated (a bit dark but it is a very old building so it is to be expected). There are many cosy and comfortable spots to settle in with a book and a glass of wine. There is a honesty bar with numerous beverages and snacks. In the evenings the hotel is lit up and very romantic. On Saturday nights they have a jazz concert in the garden which was very romantic (although a bit skeptical about the skill of the singer), it was nice all the same. Breakfast seems quiet limited in choice but the quality of the produce is excellent. I am quiet a fussy breakfast person though so the choice may be good for most. Ivan who assisted us with our stay was brilliant. One of those few people that really enjoy being of service and helping guests feel comfortable. He was full of information and really went out of his way to make the stay comfortable.

On the bad side, the hotel has a no child policy but the village adjacent of course does not. This means that yes, you will hear kids running around screaming at the top of their lungs. It's unfortunate but not anything anyone can do about. My only suggestion is to take a room overlooking the garden. Also luckily the walls are tick so if you close doors and windows it helps.

Room Tip: As mentioned we stayed in brown room overlooking the village which was gorgeous but we could hear e...

It was a real pleasure to have you in El Racó de Madremanya.

We are glad to hear that your stay was a pleasure.

El Racó de Madremanya hotel is located in the center of Madremanya village. The village is very very quiet, but some few days in the year there are beautiful traditional festivals. One of the nights you was in the hotel was St. Peters day (tradictional festival in all Catalonia) and it is tradition that the kids of the village are running down the street with firecrackers (it is very nice), but with some noise but it's just that night.

It has been a pleasure to have you in our Hotel and we are happy that your stay was confortable.

We are looking forward to welcoming you at El Racó de Madremanya in the future.

We stayed at the raco for 2 nights and we really enjoyed our stay there. It's well located within the medieval village, while offering a spacious garden with pools and a beautiful dining room with outdoors for breakfast. There is a lot of attention to detail, from the different scents in every room, to the way the rooms and common areas are kept. The staff have been very attentive and helpful with providing information about the area. We don't really have any complaints as everything was perfect. Just be aware that the reception opens at 9:00, so if you want to check out earlier you will need to do that the previous day.

We were staying in El Raco de Madremanya for a 5 nights. And what a great choice! It's an excellent boutique hotel with charming rustic décor located in the pretty medieval village. If you are looking for tranquillity ,stylishness and a great service it is a place for you.
Dinners in a hotel restaurant cooked from local ingredient were absolutely delicious and selection of local wine was great as well. If you are having lazy day by the pool (choice of 2) you can order lunch basket served for you in a lovely garden.
On some evenings you can sip your wine or tasty G&T and listen live jazz concert playing outside in the candlelit garden.
The staff, specially Carlos and Ivan were excellent-always with smile and ready to help.
Everything was perfect from the start to the end ( part of 2 days raining )
And I forgot to mention lovely Pepina -very friendly cat :)

Highly recommended !

The huge, beautifuly landscaped premises are impresive and breath tranquility, they feature 2 swimming pools, lounge chairs, a hammock and so on. The room (plata in our case) was very beautiful and luxurious (rainshower/ wirhlpool bath tub/ big, but tastefuly placed tv/ 2 terraces). We are however a bit of neat freaks (bcs of allergies) and truth being said, the little carpets next to the beds were not super clean. That was however as far as criticism goes.
Everything was perfect. Iván realy knows what he is doing making people feel welcome, and relaxed.
Breakfast is superb: fresh orange juice, eggs made to order, home made bread and marmelades, selection of Catalan dried sausages and cheese. For the coffeelovers: it's Nespresso for breakfast. Diner was also good, "homey/ not chefy".
The door of the reception (of the very old main building) opens smack in the middle of town, consisting of only a handful of classical Catalan houses and a church, which is nice for a walk.
For restaurants however you need a car, although these are also only a short (20 min) drive away. Tip: head for Palau Sator, a small village closeby full of nice restaurants!

Room Tip: New building: more modern rooms, main (old) building i think are all villas. Check their website.
